McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

It’s got nothing to do with obsession with the Old Firm / Sevco.

It’s about fairness, honesty and sporting integrity.

There’s no way we’d have been allowed to get away with the same club/keep the history shite had the boot been on the other foot.

Only a half-wit, obsessed with moving on, wouldn’t see this.

  2. I’ve had to change my name / Beat boy.

Are either of you going to the hoot on 01/10 ?

If yes , we could sneak out for 20 minutes to partake of a glass of Achouffe in the merchant city .

  3. The match programme should just state that The Rangers entered the Scottish leagues in 2012 and we have played them twice since then. No reference necessary to the dead club in any way.

I would go further, and suggest that there would have been an all out concerted campaign to see to it that we never reformed in any capacity.

  5. Veltins does sell well hete, wirh their 5km beer pipe. If your are a Schule man that is.

Jings 60k spectators 52k laters of beer.

    And what a beer.

In order to provide for over 60,000 spectators, the Veltins-Arena is equipped with an abundance of catering facilities. With 15 small restaurants, 50 grilling stations and 35 cafés, the stadium can serve up to 2,500 kg of sausages, 7,000 pretzels, and 1,000 m2 of pizza in one day. These catering areas are connected to a 5 km long beer-line, supplying them with roughly 52,000 litres of beer per match day.

  6. Ok so on that note Paul..

I assume the club know how the majority fans feel about this issue?

    (If they dont im worried)

If they dont address it next week, im not sure where this leaves us all

Yeah, that jumped out a wee bit at me too. Bit surprised.

  8. Nobody arguing that point Beatbhoy, but is the correct response to Boycott your own team.

I have absolutely no doubt that the Green Brigade will come up with something brilliant, can’t wait to see exactly what they do. Stand up with the Green Brigade, £166,000 now raised.

Paul McMullen was on loan at St Mirren but played in a few development games for us.

I think Joe Thompson, Aiden Nesbitt and Luke Donnelly could be available to play against Livi on Saturday . Hopefullt this answers your question.

I will admit that not watching the games is tougher than even I thought it would be … but, for me, it feels like the right thing….

I will not support Sevco directly or indirectly …. If our Board wont stand up for what is right (and, since DD seems to back Sevco, and PL, at best, wont say anything against them), I wont give any more money to our Board unless and until they cut the OF strings ….

not saying anyone else has to, but that is how I feel.

Interesting to read what folks think about the up and coming game against the huns, I always call them huns cos thats wot they are imo.

I agree with bits both sides, but in thew main I think that if you have already bought a season book you have condoned them, so imo not to go is daft.

They club are not going to do or say anything that might take a shilling out of their pockets so expecting them to is futile.

We are not wanted in scotland, that is as plain as the nose on your face, to give in to them in any way, by not attending and the like is letting them win, they were never going to disappear, their is too much money involved, the blue bigot pound is worth millions each year, a fair few comes the way of Celtic and our suits were never going to turn their backs on the money no matter the cost to the support or their feelings, to think otherwise is just plain daft.

But as I live abroad and don’t go to the games I maybes shouldn’t be giving my opinion, aye right, if I could I would be there.

  15. Evening all

Still choked with cold and a trip to the asthma clinic hardly raised my spirits when the nurse told me I was fat and don’t get enough exercise. Even if she is right,

Reading the comments about next weekend’s derby match I recall that I never went to what were still called ‘Old Firm’ matches for 11 years and only once -when big Jan scored in the dying seconds- did I actually wish I was there. I went back out of curiosity as much as anything and we duly lost 3-1 in the infamous match where Willie Collum awarded a penalty without seeing the actual incident.

I have some fond memories of the original games- the 4-2 games of 21/5/79 is one of those things that, like seeing the Clash for the first time or , as a nine year old, seeing Monty Python or my first encounter with a woman whose initials are YM, I cannot imagine what life would be like without experiencing it- and some of the defeats ( usually league cup finals for some reason) hit really hard but my overriding memory was the unpleasantness of the occasion. The singing of bigoted songs by them (and us) rarely bothered me that much (inside the stadium at least) but the anxiety of going for a a drink in town if we had won or even drawn, worrying about hiding my colours in the bus station- I was chased in Buchanan St station after the game when big Roy got two goals and again three years later when we lost 3-0- and the generally rancid atmosphere often made me think that the games should not be played at all. For years I argued semi-seriously that a 1-1 draw be awarded for the league games and if drawn in a cup victory be awarded to the ‘losing’ team from before -presenting a solution to something that blights the city the games are played in. It has, more seriously, always struck me as being odd that Glasgow Council which will generally ban anything it can has made no serious attempts to ban these games which almost every time they took place caused far greater damage than Life of Brian, the Arches and the Sex Pistols in 1976 ever could have.

I have softened my attitude towards the games a bit since 2010 and was surprised that neither of the two games played since the Rangers #2 came into existence has seen as much in the way of trouble as I had expected – especially at the one we won- to be a throwback to the worst of the 70s. Next weekend may be different – and if we win I’ll be finding a more discrete watering hole to celebrate than I normally would.

I can understand people being upset at the very fact that ‘Rangers’ are playing us at all- 4 years ago the worst days business Scottish football ever did was letting the new club into the league. But now I find myself sometimes thinking ‘let it go’ – there genuinely are more important things in the world and in my own life than remembering to call them ‘Sevco’ everytime. Supporters of the current ‘Rangers’ have not and will never accept that their club is a new one- they believe the UEFA letter to be a forgery for example- and will, should it happen, never accept the stripping of titles or even that the EBT scheme was in some ways ‘immoral’. I am less sure we would have been any different had we gone under and re-emerged in the third tier in 1994 than some are. I do think that we are right and that they are wrong and that is now good enough for me but I do not buy any Scottish printed newspaper, listen to Radio Clyde or subscribe to Sky Sports – they pedal lies and so won’t get my money.

As for the Celtic board I doubt they will say or do anything that will either propagate the continuity myth or seek to dispel that same myth. Nothing that has come out of Celtic on the topic of Rangers #1 or #2 over the last 54 months suggests otherwise to me. To have come this far and expect something , hell anything, remotely controversial seems a bit unlikely to me.

I am sorry to have rabbited on here so much – especially as I am missing a big episode of Corry- but if you feel that boycotting the game next week is for you then do so. If, like me, you are going to go then hopefully it will be another one of those life affirming experiences I had all those years ago.

The correct response certainly isn’t to dismiss as half-wits those with real concerns about the lack of any challenge to the Big Lie from our club, and who therefore won’t attend a match in which a four year old club is claiming to be fighting for its 55 th Top Tier title, with the support of the league’s administrators, and no protest from Celtic.

The fact that at least 6 of those 55 were gained through cheating does nothing to ease those concerns, of course.

Steven Thompson, Dundee United chairman, made it clear that, without the threatened season ticket boycott in 2012, Sevco would’ve gone straight into the Premiership.

So sometimes it is the answer.

What do the Huns fear most ? A humiliating defeat to us.

Well let’s try our very best to give them just that. Then debate the bigger picture.

On a lighter note; we could demonstrate our disgust at them by turning our backs fo 90 minutes and doing the huddle. I think we did it before Poznan anyway.

Despite the numbers we have now I do not think we can better either of those midfields, though we have good wide options. Like some on here, (ok Mike in Toronto then) I believe Erik could improve the defensive midfield, if we can do without him in the back four. and play him a bit further forward. Cannot see anyone else playing there at this point in time.

  22. Beatbhoy, Never called or inferred anyone was a half wit. I am as angry as any other Tim re the cheating and re the Nimmo whitewash.

We need the big Tax Case to be finally decided on, if Hector wins and I think he will then is the time to go after the cheats and demand a new Tribunal.

In the meantime there are plenty of ways of letting them know they are a new Club and I just bet The Green Brigade are working on a good one.
