McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

I see that Brendan said that he wanted another creative midfield player, not a holding one.

I watch games in Tennants – easier to get back to Ashton Lane after :-)

I nip in there sometimes too. Can be busy. If I time it right I can get a good seat in The Rock directly facing a big telly screen.

  3. NatKnoiw

Nothing wrong with the Rock – I just know a few folk in T’s – it is stowed at big away games right enough.

  4. Would heartily recommend people to listen to the Interview with Brendan on Celtic TV!

He comes across as a first rate human being as well as a first rate manager. Like many I thought that the club should have supported him more on deadline day and I really hope that they do all they can to support him in the future because I truly believe that he could build something very special if given the resources! He certainly gave the new bhoy a big build up and it seems he is a player that Brendan identified. Brendan spoke with such enthusiasm and positivity that I am now doubly disappointed that we don’t have a game this weekend!

That brings me to our next game. Like many I would have much preferred our club to have been far more vocal in welcoming the new club in to Scottish football four years ago. I now expect them to say nothing about them at all. The match programme will not say they are either a new club nor an old club. It will probably refer to previous Glasgow Derbys, it will not call them Old Firm games, nor will it say they are a continuation of the old dead Huns! IMHO

I have had a ST now for over 20 years and I will attend if fit to do so, in the same way I would against any other tease play at home. It’s enough for me to know that their support know that we know that they know, they are not the same club! Hope that makes sense!

They can sing as loudly as they can but we know we buried them four years ago, well actually Minty did the leg work on that!

It’s not a great thing to admit to, but I used to get a real buzz from going to games against the old deid Huns. The sense of comradeship among our support going to the games, especially at the bigotdome was brilliant. The heightened sense of victory or defeat made these games extra special. At times when I was younger I could be contorted with anger simply at the sight and sound of them. The older me was more restrained, maybe sitting in the main stand was partly responsible perhaps it was just growing up and realising that there are many things far more important than football.

Next week I hope we destroy our opponents on the park with brilliant attacking football. I hope everyone attending gets home safely afterwards, everyone Celtic and zombie alike.

I will be delighted when we win but it will not have the same intensity for me because they are simply not the same club!

  6. Happy Friday…

Wee bit surprised our transfer window was so controversial… Brendan did a great job.

Our squad Management has been woeful of late, for BR to rectify that in one window is to my mind awesome.

Sure, there’s work to be done as far as getting the squad where it needs to be but that was never achievable in one window, nor two for that matter.

    My highlights…

    – We seem to have broken through the glass ceiling in terms of wages… quality players are well rewarded, Celtic need to pay the rates.

    – We seem to be targeting signings that can strengthen the first team from the get-go

    – Each signing has been at least as good as we thought anď made a positive contribution

    – We have a Manager and Coaching staff that can meld new players into the first team and have them performing in jig time.

Now to experiment with the tactics and get some shooting practise in against SPL cannon fodder…

    Hail Hail

Was in Nics on Wednesday evening having a few beers with my fellow old codgers when the normally business-suited 40/50 year old regulars came in from playing 5-a-sides.

A fair amount of mixed; high-street, sports, non-football branded training kit – until you counted the legs with the black socks with red tops.

Meeting the guys shortly – ACGR’s ‘Zadok’ will be getting big licks this evening! :-)

Re our next opponents in the league.

My original view was not to go to the game at all. Not because of who the opponents are but because I genuinely don’t like the atmosphere and I haven’t missed it all over the last four years.

Re the £50 charge — some friends of mine who are season ticket holders welcome the fact that Celtic will charge that sum to away fans for this fixture. They see it as a sensible and good thing to do and see no pandering to the “old firm” tag in the pricing.

I am not so sure. I don’t like that our own fans seem to being asked to pay more in respect of this one fxture and I am not keen on any special rules for the fixture.

Further, just because we may well have the upper hand on the pitch that doesn’t mean that Celtic should forget about calling Scottish football to account.

I am conflicted in my own feelings about the fixture but I support Celtic and will support them no matter who they play — but I despise all this fixture stands for in the eyes of many and the way it is hyped up and portrayed in the press.

I have friends who support Rangers who feel the same way.

I posted on here a few years ago I wouldn’t attend such games but on hindsight, that was rash.

We done nothing wrong, so why should our team suffer by a loss of support from good Celtic men, women and children.

There is no shame in supporting your team.

The only shame will be come from the monkies verses and actions.
