McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

Just read the “No Aberdeen apology” article and it seems to me to be less than the “new club” statement of fact that I originally thought it was.

Rather than stating that no games have been played between the two clubs because the new club only came into existence in 2012, it blames the updating of their computer system.

This suggests that were the computer system not updated then there may indeed have been previous games played between the two clubs.

Hardly telling it like it is.

IMHO it’s not about them, it’s about the Bhoys on the pitch and I’ll be there to support them (and give it tight to the orcs as well).

    BSR,

    That is true.

Personally, there was a spell, between1968 -72, when I stopped going to these games.

This was during the time when we very rarely lost a meaningful game to them.

Apart from the disgust at the venom and atmosphere, I didn’t like what it was doing to myself.

I didn’t want to be part of the hate.

I went back after ’72 though and stuck it out for another few years.

These last four years have been a breath of fresh air. A time when you can watch a game on it’s own merit and not through the prism of what is happening in Govan. How many penalties, etc.

It was good to read that. I don’t post often. I have followed CQN for a good few years and used to post more frequently. One early attraction was the fact that posts were well-written, that rules concerning the use of bad language were applied, that intelligent and respectful – if at times blunt – discussions took place. It’s always been easy to argue for the superiority of the Celtic supporter in terms of sharpness of wit and heightened vocabulary and point to CQN to prove your point. That hasn’t been so of late. The rancour and the slovenly reaching for cheap shots using “street” language is letting the side down.

I have wanted to lodge a protest but took the easy way out and stopped reading as much. The blog has changed. I do miss the repartee and you’ve made me recall a few highlights such as Pablophanque’s lengthy litany about Vmhan. Here’s some of it:

Vmhan can sneeze with his eyes open

Google no longer runs searches on Vmhan. You don’t find Vmhan, Vmhan finds you !

Vmhan didn’t wet his bed as a child. The bed wet itself out of fear.

Vmhan doesn’t step away from the vehicle. The vehicle steps away from Vmhan.

Vmhan isn’t afraid of the dark. The dark is afraid of Vmhan.

Vmhan has counted to infinity …………… twice.

Vmhan doesn’t wear a watch. HE decides what time it is.

and a brilliant take on the Feast of the Annunciation by winningemmell.

Practical and emotional support was given to those in personal difficulty:

I’m sure all isn’t lost. It’s still a superior blog and its members still express the idealism, genuine concern and commitment to action that Celtic supporters are noted for. We have a good season ahead of us. Let’s enjoy it.

  13. I will neither be going to the New Rangers game nor giving my seat to someone else. I will feel comfortable making my small protest against the Big Lie. If I had any doubt that this was the right thing ( for me) to do, I would go to the game. Deciding not to go causes me no concern whatsoever. I would love it if 50,000 other Celtic fans felt as I do . Knowing that they don`t is a wee bit disappointing but not at all surprising. I won`t be falling out with anyone who is going !

  15. The forthcoming Glasgow Derby is generating a lot of honest debate on here and the points being made are a good read.

Babasonico (sp?) mentioned his 13 yo is wanting to attend. As a kid I was prevented from going to “OF” games until I was about 13 or 14. My mum said they were too poisonous for a child. So when I did get to go it seemed like a right of passage and was exciting to me. From then on I went to them all of them that were at CP or Hampden until I was about 19 or 20 when I decided that…mum was right…they are too poisonous, and not just for kids. Like Auldheid, I didn’t like the affect they had on me – I was a nervous, tense wreck being wound up even more by vile chants and songs (mostly from the other end but we have to admit to singing some unsavoury stuff too). I never went to another from then until the death of the old club. I just didn’t think it was worth it and would have been happy if Celtic never had to play Rangers again. I got my wish ;). That was just personal prefer. I fully support any Celtic fan that does want to go.

Next Saturday I will be watching the Glasgow Derby in the comfort of my living room (i don’t have a season ticket these days) and I will probably be nervous. But this time it’ll be because I am desperate to teach that new team a lesson. They really deserve it. But deep down, I will be wishing that this game wasn’t taking place at all.

  23. Instead of us waiting for the Club to make a statement about the deid team, why don’t we (or at least those who are going to THAT game) have one of those card efforts (don’t know what they’re properly called) like when we played Barcelona. Something covering the 3 parts of our ground throughout the game, stating something like Rangers liquidated and so died 2012; Sevco alive and kicking til today.
