McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

  1. I bought my Season Ticket like I do for every year that I can remember. Just now I am charged for 21 games, the only ones I did not attend were the two friendliest, my choice as I no longer do friendlies. I will attended the Aberdeen game the first of 19 competitive games. I look forward to going along to Celtic Park to cheer on my Team against the opposition in the 18 remaining games.

If I did not want to go along to support my Team against certain opposition I would not have purchased my ST, I would instead have purchased a ticket for the games the opposition I wanted to go along and support my Team against the opposition of the day, I would have saved myself money.

As above I will decide ticket availability permitting what away games I choose to go to but I know one ground I will never set foot in again. I will not financially support a team who fail to recognise their Ancestors were a cheating lying entity and that they are indeed a new club and prove that they are trustworthy, that will be the day hell freezes over.

I am Celtic, you are Celtic, we are all Celtic.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

It may well not have, but I am willing to wager that the sfa would have bent over backwards if our suits had taken them to task at the time, the support didn’t do anything, so the suits didn’t do anything, so it’s a moot point.

Prob now is their being has been condoned, bottom line, I don’t like it, I reckon that 99.99% of the Celtic support don’t like it but it’s just the way it is in scotland.

The problem with a 10min boycott at the start is getting everyone in quickly afterwards. Walking out with 10 minutes to go is more practical. The problem with that is it’s fairly normal behaviour for when we are thrashing a wee team anyway.

    Evening Mike.

I’m good just incredibly busy. Two meetings with Celtic next week, one of which is addressing a joint proposal, blowing apart the nonsense that we only criticise the board, and a FAC meeting on Monday :-)

I’m in agreement with both you and Beatbhoy. I hope, beyond belief, that we do something, almost anything, to address the corruption and cheating. My original point, as I said to Beatbhoy, was that I can’t understand those who have that opinion, not belief.

Ps new guy on the staff, he’s in my class every afternoon, outed himself as a monkey supporter this afternoon. An interesting hour long conversation ensued after work. :-)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers confirms he missed out on a creative midfielder before window shut

    Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers

CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club tried to bring in a creative midfielder during the transfer window.

The Hoops were after West Bromwich Albion and Scotland midfielder James Morrison as well as Everton and Republic of Ireland internationalist James McCarthy.

However deadline day passed with the club adding no further recruits.

Rodgers reckons his Celtic men, who currently top the Scottish Premiership table by one point from rivals Rangers, are in great shape after bringing in five players – Moussa Dembele, Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Dorus De Vries and Cristian Gamboa – in the window.

The Northern Irishman also believes it is fate that defender Jozo Simunovic returned to Glasgow after seeing a transfer deadline day move to Italian giants Torino collapsed at the 11th hour.

Rodgers believes that the 22 year-old Croat can still have a bright future at the club.

SNS GroupCeltic manager Brendan Rodgers and captain Scott Brown in training

Rodgers told CelticTV: “I wanted to bring in another creative player into our midfield to support the players we had here but I’ll never bring in anyone just for the sake of bringing in a player.

“It has to be the right type of player and profile otherwise you waste time, money and energy.

“We brought in five players that can make a difference to the squad and can help it and we tried everything we could to get the right level of quality player in, but the players we wanted in just weren’t available to get and you can’t get a player if a club doesn’t want to sell him or loan him.

Maybe its just me,and my grasp of the English language isl ipping, but reading ths,I would say that Celtic tried to get in the fabled midfielder and were knocked back.Brendans words.Wether Celtic were led to believe a deal could be done, and then told no,who knows. We saw how transfers can collapse at the last minute with Joze.Torino moving the goalposts.Anyone saying anything different on the chase for a midfielder is basically calling Brendan, you know the guy in whom we trust,a liar.l

  16. The Brendan Rodgers Interview

Just watched BR on Celtic TV: what a fantastic interview.

    • Very happy with the transfer window

    • Had targeted players but couldn’t get them in

    • Very pleased with experience of Toure, Sinclair

    • Dembele is agreat young talent and has made an impact; he will start games

    • Really like Gamboa: “First and foremost he can defend”, he is aggressive and superfast

    • Fans need to understand that the ball will be passed back to start new attacking moves

    • Great result against Aberdeen, though there were heavy legs in the second half

    • Watching the Be’er Shiva game in Israel: last 2o minutes were comfortable

    • No mention of Rangers or the Old Firm: it was the Glasgow Derby. Could this be the official stance?

    • Saidy Janko will be back: he needed game time and development

    • Commented on the need for the support to get behind the team and make a difference

    • Celtic are more than a club, it’s a way of life

He comes across as a very knowledgeable man and a really ice individual! Keep it going Brendan, we are right behind you!

  21. Celtic cannot possibly make a statement in relation to the cheating. What’s really important is that the process has not run it’s course. The outcome of the Big Tax Case (HMRC v BDO) has still to be decided at the Supreme Court. Hopefully HMRC win, however regardless of the outcome I want Celtic to dismantle the LNS enquiry for the sham that it was. If HMRC do win then Celtic will be under enormous pressure to act.

  22. Hamiltontim, are you at St Mary’s on Monday evening? If so, I may get the chance to introduce myself.

  24. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I’m not going to our game against sevco out of choice.

I last went to a game against the now defunct club in 2006 when we drew nothing each with them. It was an awful game , like many against them before.

My reason, like others have earlier posted, how all sense of rational thinking seems to disappear from me when we played the horribles.

The nastiness inside and outside the stadium is something I didn’t enjoy or feel comfortable with.

I don’t even watch the games on tv. I’ll check score updates

I have no issue with anyone going or not going to the game against the ‘the rangers’.

I may be way off the mark here but possibly our old pals , Polis Scotland, have advised our board about the contents of our match day programme at our next home game , not containing anything that may antagonise our visitors even more.

After the Aberdeen game, the announcer said our next game is the Glasgow derby against ‘rangers’.

I’m not expecting any statement from our board at all about the situation except if The liquidators lose their appeal.

  25. Glad to see a bit of sanity return here.mi am prompted to post as I saw the report of Lee Wallace leaving the Scotland squad to lead his team in a freindly at Linfield.

The connection is that I was in the local post office on Monday morning waiting to pay in a cheque as I have no nearby branch for my bank. Anyway, in front of me there was a queue of a few local worthies all waiting to cash their benefit Giro/ payment card or whatever.

Directly in front of me there were two dimwits pondering how long their benefits would last as they were heading straight to the club to pay their balance due for the Linfield trip. Not to worry says one of the Klan , you only need drink money , the locals provide the food and the match is the best ever sash bash in the world. I am quoting here, the smaller half wit tells the virgin soldier, that ” aw the bons parade round the park before the game and at half time, and it’s pure mental”.

Surely their freinds at Sky will be covering such an edifying event?

  26. Beatbhoy –

My use of the term half-wits was aimed at those who decry me and other Celtic supporters for attending the game next week.

I have no issue with anyone outraged by the cheating and the perpetuation of the same-club lie. I agree with them.

I believe my comment was very clear on that.
