Medical tomorrow as player agrees terms

620

I heard two bits of good news today.  First, and most importantly, season ticket sales have been fantastic.  We’re well on track to reach target.  We don’t know what next season will bring from several revenue streams, most importantly what European football will deliver, but knowing the income arriving from season tickets allows the club to make early decisions.

Specifically, a couple of hours ago we agreed terms (with player and club) for the outright purchase of a player, currently registered with an English Premier League club.  He  flies north tonight and will sign subject to a medical, booked for tomorrow.  I understand the coaching staff are delighted at the capture as he’s been our number one priority for some time.

Tip for the day: don’t ask ‘sources close to the club’ what the consequences of today’s result at Fir Park are for us, unless you want a lecture about how:
We’re on our own……
We know we’re on our own……
We’ll stand or fall on our own merits……
We don’t need money from two derby games that we could almost match from a good run in the cups……
We need to build a successful Celtic team……
We need to pull a squad together for the qualifiers……
We need five-in-a-row……
And none of this is changed whatsoever by who else is in the Premiership.  Not.  An.  Inch.

That’s me told.  I also got the feeling no one at Celtic has any appetite to be involved in the kind of scenes we witnessed at Fir Park today.  It’s not the image we have for our future.  We want a successful, family club, open to all.  As it has been since 1888.

Anyway, I’m sworn to secrecy on the identity of the player, but you’re smart, you’ll figure it out.  Well done with the season tickets, take a bow.

If mohsni was playing in the amateur leagues and kicked and punched someone he would be sine died, check the disciplinary section of the SFA website, lots of cases of guys getting the book thrown at them for such offences.

12 months in jail and a lifetime ban from football for jar jar seems fair to me.

Enjoying a break in Andalusia near Almeria but managed to catch second half of the match and ‘after game entertainment’. Thanks for keeping me posted about post match reaction.

Motherwell’s pitch looked far better yesterday than a couple of years ago. Please don’t tell me it’s artificial.

I watched the game in an Edinburgh hostelry yesterday, the atmosphere was fantastic, a joy to hear laughter ringing out like that. Brollyman, Cammy Bell, a second deflection, the penalty, then the coup de grace of Mohsni. If the BAFTA comedy ward isn’t already wrapped up and headed north then I’ll be very surprised.

Also while here in Almeria was asked to sit in on a class of 8 year old school kids as a native English speaker ( ?) as there is a huge initiative over here to have bilingual schools from an early age.

The conversation with the boys and girls, who included kids from Morocco, France, Romania and Lithuania, quickly turnined to football and ,yes, within 10 minutes, the whole class were punching the air and singing “Cel-teek, Cel-teek”.

The grandchildren will support Celtic – all over the world !

I almost had to blow my cover yesterday such was my desperation to laugh at the zombie nation, but given the amount of fun remaining in this soap opera, I am glad I resisted.

The funniest comment of the 180 minutes, or at least my personal favourite, was this one:

” how the f**k can the referee manage to track the runner the length of the pitch and none of our players can?”

  19. Morning compadres.

I see everyone is on good form this fine day. Excellent.

Reading through the posts from yesterday, one common theme came up over and over and over again, and I was glad that it did, because I was thinking the same.

Almost everyone has someone in their mind, who they missed more than usual yesterday, people who’s reaction to what we witnessed can only be imagined.

That’s nice, don’t you think? That we were thinking of them. For me it was my grandparents, three of whom would have been over the moon – my gran on my mum’s side in particular, but my grandad on my father’s side too, he would have loved it – and one of whom, my grandad on my mum’s side, who would have been taunted mercilessly by his better half … but would have taken it all in his stride and with good grace.

Yeah … yesterday was historic and catharcic and on days like that we do think of those no longer here.

Some of your tributes to those people were heartfelt and amazing. I am glad that I was here to see it, that my folks were here to see it, that my cousins and my uncles and my aunties and all the rest were here to see it.

Who knows what else we’ll see in time? Celtic restored to our rightful place as a European power? Why not?

But here in Scotland, well … the war’s over. The Good Guys won. And that’s something we can all take enormous pride and satisfaction in.

I don’t know how many of you agree, but on the days when I think about it I am grateful for a wee guy called Fergus McCann, who did have a plan, who rebuilt a shattered institution and laid the foundations for what we have today.

Others have built on it, but without those we’d have been nowhere. This is his victory, as much as ours.

The funny thing about the Cammy Bell goal was if hands were tied behind his back he wouldn’t even have needed to jump to header it away.

  22. Well another season without them in the top league ahead. Good. Let the new club scramble about with the Mortons and Alloas while we go for another title.

Just need to avoid them in the cup draws now, assuming they are around that long.

  24. On a more serious/sinister note, I was shocked at the levels of sheer hatred directed towards pretty much every one of their own players from the rabid hordes on FF.

Even if you make allowances for the fact their follow followers are clearly distressed at the failure of their team, the vitriol and bile spouted towards their own, is, quite frankly, disturbing.

I cannot imagine a situation whereby a Celtic supporter would resort to the levels of personal abuse towards their own players that is evident across the city.

The “we arra peepil” mantra is probably the reason. Losing their feelings of superiority is proving impossible to cope with. The streets of Glasgow and other districts will become even more dangerous next season as the hordes try to find some way of releasing the frustration they are drowning in.

If Timmy is doing well, and competing at the top level in Europe, it will be even worse. I am not sure they can take much more.
