Misleading process of appointing a manager

801

A few categories of candidates for the manager position were identified before the end of the season.

There are a couple who would be considered ideal appointments, and who would be able to get on the list for top jobs in any country in Europe. If we can land one of them, and do so within the timeframe which will allow us to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, I think we’d all be happy (apart from those incapable of happiness, you know who they are).

Then there are managers with clear potential who have overachieved with resources available to them, but who also have a bit of European competition experience. You might know less about them, but their CVs can talk.  This list is more extensive.

It’s also worth remembering how Celtic (and others) operate in certain respects when appointing a manager. Clubs often interview potential managers who don’t fit their required profile out of courtesy.

If a candidate of a certain profile in the game (or at the club) asks to be considered, it’s likely Celtic would interview him instead of rejecting him out of hand. Football is a tight, interconnected, industry, where making contacts is preferable to breaking them, so don’t be distracted by newspaper stories that someone or other has been interviewed.  The story is likely to be accurate, but the context will mislead.

The process itself also changes how candidates are viewed. What the potential manager says about strategy, recruitment, technology are all likely to inform the club no his suitability.

Brendan Rodgers fits the bill before formal interviewing got underway, but he’s certainly not the only high-profile candidate under consideration, and I know others are making solid running.

The important thing to bear in mind right now, is that the moment a deal is done it will be announced, and that until that moment, don’t waste your time thinking you know what’s going to happen. There are too many variables to be certain of anything.

  1. pochetino finishes third behind Leicester and an average Arsenal, with no Chelsea, a rubbish United and a city with other things on their mind scraping fourth place and he’s the future of coaching (or managing as he’s insisting on being called now)

Rodgers finished a whisker behind a good man city, in front of a decent Chelsea team. He then lost sterling and Suarez and was given balotelli as well as signing benteke, Sturridge was injured and gerrard was looking well over the hill.

    We’ve got short memories

  2. bhyoys and ghirls and ghirly bhoys , my personal opinion is that Rodgers is the romantic fans choice. How do you think he would do against packed defenses and playing of the bog bumpy pitches every other week?

For me Moyes is the man – he knows how to grind out a won in this situations and also likes a bit of flair in the team. We know in this league romance hasn’t worked in the past – tommy burns, john barnes, etc… the only caveat to that is we are now more financially powerful, so maybe it could work this time round. I want strong first and foremost, particularly as officials will do everything to stop us.

ASHLEY hit back after Rangers announced they were to rip up contracts held with the merchandise company they run with Sports Direct

MIKE ASHLEY turned troll in his ongoing war with Rangers this afternoon when his Sports Direct firm splashed the new CELTIC kit across the top of their website’s homepage.

The company, whose controversial retail deal with Rangers is to be torn up by the Ibrox club, were also offering cut price Gers strips with the tag ‘Must Go’.

The Celtic promotion was accompanied by the words ‘Like No Other’.

I was being flippant with the manager of the month comment. Don’t think Rodgers includes them in his CV.

Equivalent of Wayne Rooney celebrating getting into Garth Crooks team of the week.

The 2013/14 manger of the year award is something that I’m sure Pellegrini would be willing to swap for an actual league winners medal.

    Hail Hail!

  19. Rodgers still the raging hot favourite with the Bookies. I still believe he could be stalling whilst trying to negotiate a pay off from Liverpool.

It’s not that Liverpool would give a f*** whether he goes to Celtic or not, but if they thought he wanted to go to any job, they would see it as an opportunity to save a few quid by playing hardball with final severance payment.

I’m sticking with hunch that Rodgers has been offered job but has looked for a few days to finalise his severance from Liverpool before putting pen to paper.

Who is responsible for sevco surrender?

In my thinking DDmade his mind up after europe exit, so tho much was made by the vermin in attemptin to establish thr shat on identity, it remains shite and has no bearing on Celtics future.

If we fail in 6 weeks…

    And if we go through….

Again its a game, we could buy bale, ronaldo etc and still go out

PL tenure may or may not be construed as poor LC, but that only reflects on how active DDs(44%*) holding has been over the same period interms of support.since after the MoN debt was paid we cut our cloth accordingly, and long may we continue to.the days of spec to accumulate Iimo are long gone.
