Paddy McCourt was the difference between the teams today as Celtic came from behind for the second time in three days to beat Motherwell at Celtic Park, securing second spot in the league. Craig Higdon opened the scoring for Motherwell after 11 minutes with a header from a corner kick but Anthony Stokes levelled, also from a corner, two minutes later. Substitute Gary Hooper scored the winner late on.
Despite a sprightly first minute Celtic were on the back foot for most of the opening period and it was no surprise Motherwell opened the scoring. Nor was the manner in which they lost the goal a surprise. Tom Hately crossed from a short corner which Celtic slept at, failing to mark-up. The defence also pushed out in instalments, leaving Craig Higdon free six yards from goal to head home.
Celtic immediately pushed forward and Georgios Samaras flicked a Kris Commons header onto Stokes at the back post, who volleyed into the net.
A Commons free kick was blocked by Samaras, whose shot was saved. Thomas Rogne headed a Commons’ corner on target but the ball was blocked on the line. On the half hour mark Higdon drew a good save from Fraser Forster.
Four minutes into the second half Stokes should have given Celtic the lead when he latched onto a long ball from Daniel Majstorovic which evaded the defence but Darren Randolph closed the space. On 54 minutes the lively Stokes cut-back for Commons who took one touch too many and was robbed. Fraser Forster was called into action again soon thereafter when he blocked a Nicky Law effort.
Paddy McCourt replaced Samaras with 15 minutes to go and transformed the game. On 79 minutes he collected the ball inside his own half, drifted through a nervous looking Motherwell midfield until he reached the edge of the D before feeding Stokes on the left. Stokes made space before rifling the ball into the six yard box for Gary Hooper to score the winner.
Tim Clancy was shown a straight red card late on for kicking Gary Hooper. If referee Charlie Richmond had taken an earlier opportunity to control Lasley or Jennings, Gary Hooper, James Forrest and Beram Kayal would perhaps have finished the game with fewer injuries.

Now interestingly Celtic can knock their lead down to 6 points, yes 6 points by the 27th of November.
Celtic play Inverness A, Dunfermline H, St Mirren H
While they play St Johnstone H and then Kilmarnock A but the Kilmarnock game is on a Sunday AFTER Celtic play on the Saturday.
Now that really would be interesting. I see St Johnstone now have another Celtic hater as a manager so that is 3 points without a doubt but Kilmarnock play honestly against all teams and can cause them problems. Everything is possible and that is before a points deduction.
Believe.
Yes, we have ourselves an extremely talented, but VERY young and inexperienced team..They are fighting and clawing back with everything they have. The players now know the pressures of being at this mighty club, …as the big man says “celtic shirts don’t shrink to fit inferior players”…in watching todays game and mid week against rennes…I believe those players are now beginning to Heid Jocks famous words…and are now turning the corner.
Someone pointed out that we dont have an enforcer..well let me tell you, and i’m 100% certain on it..big Wanyama is cut from that cloth..he oozes presence and has frightening talent as a holding midfeilder…no flair, but a fighter who will mop everything up….just like oor Neil done in his pomp…Neil has a prodigy in his midst….Wanyama can become GREAT!
What gets me about McCall and Motherwell is the way they meekly surrender any time they play Rangers, when they play us it’s as if their lives depend on it.
As for Richmond, my goodness I thought Collum was bad, this is quite another invertibrate altogether.
Lawwell must start putting serious pressure on Reagan to get this sorted out.
The beautiful game? Don’t make me laugh.
Saying that, immense today, Celtic, just immense.

Could it be that BBC thought we would lose ?.
Lasley always plays like a thug against us
Your sex life is like an oban fireworks display
Back from Fir Park (+ the boozer)
A great 3 points in the end after a poor 1st half. I long for the day we take the lead in a game
On to todays game. Despite a disgraceful refereeing performance from Richmond we showed plenty of heart in the 2nd half and deservedly took the spoils. Sammi, Big Dan + Kayal were superb
A complaint from the club to the SFA regards Richmond’s performance should be in the post tonight
To say Richmond was less than honest in his decisions would be putting it mildly
Lasley is a thug, one thing(one thing) you can say about Ian Black
he is a dirty bassa to all.
Evening bhoys!
Don’t imagine anybody likes being assaulted on their birthday but that’s what happened to Celtic today
It was a good dig in performance. If it was the other mob phrases like ‘champions performance’ etc not for us. I thought we were quite good today despite the thuggery.
My only disappointment? Another goal from the hoops and I’d be 100 quid up lol
Hail hail

It wasnt just the thuggish tackles going unpunished ,there loads of other wrong calls throughout the game . Throw-ins that should have been ours and a couple of corners that were wrong plus fouls given against that just were not fouls. It was a blatent show of 90min MIBery .

Are we pals again? :O)
How many enforcers were there in MON’s team? I think there was a game early on after Larsson returned from his injury when someone clattered him. Thereafter there was a steady stream of players taking turns to dish out some to that player in return. It would have been in MON’s first season so probably Thompson, Sutton, Mjallby all involved.

Got this from a youth player(cellic man) at hunwell…

More effort today, we only get kicked because we do not dish anything back out.
Guys like Lasley and Graigan should be sorted out, straightforward illegal challenge at a corner at their end …. once jamsey got hoofed up in the air for the second time, the obvious course of action was for Vic to drift over for 5 minutes to sort out mwell micreant, or for Dan to go through Higdon, fight fire with fire and then play the football.
goldstar10……I’ve been VERY supportive of our Board for the way they foresaw this recession, and are leading us through it, but I will be VERY disappointed if they do not lodge a major complaint on the relevant elements of this, which highlighted everything that is wrong with Scottish Football…….and they need to consider taking it even further, for an enquiry by the Scottish Parliament, since they are already investigating ways of ‘cleaning up’ Scottish Football….(They clearly have their work cut out for them)
OUR BOARD ARE THERE TO MANAGE THE CLUB, AND TO DEAL WITH ANY SITUATION WHICH IS THREATENING THE SUCCESS/FUTURE OF OUR CLUB……AND THIS ‘EXAMPLE’ TODAY HAS CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED THAT THERE IS AN ABJECT HATRED OF ALL THINGS CELTIC IN THIS COUNTRY …..IT’S TIME TO DEAL WITH THIS, BOARD…!!!!

Does that mean ,aye or naw?
EKBhoy
When we kick them, we get yellows and sent off.
saltires en sevilla- Hoops looks well behind the ball so onside, no question.
Had to laugh at Roddy Forsyth on 5 live saying the ball was played backwards so Hooper was probably onside. WTF is he talking about? Ball direction is irrelevent in deciding offside.
Celtic won today, happy as Larry,COULD NOT be happier!
Now you’re learning – Craigan on the box after we gub them – do you think that was arranged after the game?
They will never miss an opportunity to have a dig – never, ever, ever.
That’s why from a socio-political stand point, supporters of Celtic feel every result. Because of the streets we live on and the places we work. There is no big team, wee team miasma. There’s only us.
u
McCall’s comment about Lasley and another midfielder Forbes? last season that they absolutely had to play against Celtic while carrying knocks tells us all we need to know abut the man.
If I can remember correctly they did not play the week before or after.
Árd Macha
No point in our players trying exact retribution,,,,would only make it easier for the Ref to send our players off quicker,,,,i mean Kayal only has to look at the Ref sideways to pick up a booking,,,another instance,Stokes booking today was farcical, you have Higdon who must have committed at least 8-10 foul yet manages to finish the game without picking up a Yellow???
Its not a level playing field so we have to find another solution, because retaliation wont work for our ghuys!!!
