Paddy McCourt was the difference between the teams today as Celtic came from behind for the second time in three days to beat Motherwell at Celtic Park, securing second spot in the league. Craig Higdon opened the scoring for Motherwell after 11 minutes with a header from a corner kick but Anthony Stokes levelled, also from a corner, two minutes later. Substitute Gary Hooper scored the winner late on.
Despite a sprightly first minute Celtic were on the back foot for most of the opening period and it was no surprise Motherwell opened the scoring. Nor was the manner in which they lost the goal a surprise. Tom Hately crossed from a short corner which Celtic slept at, failing to mark-up. The defence also pushed out in instalments, leaving Craig Higdon free six yards from goal to head home.
Celtic immediately pushed forward and Georgios Samaras flicked a Kris Commons header onto Stokes at the back post, who volleyed into the net.
A Commons free kick was blocked by Samaras, whose shot was saved. Thomas Rogne headed a Commons’ corner on target but the ball was blocked on the line. On the half hour mark Higdon drew a good save from Fraser Forster.
Four minutes into the second half Stokes should have given Celtic the lead when he latched onto a long ball from Daniel Majstorovic which evaded the defence but Darren Randolph closed the space. On 54 minutes the lively Stokes cut-back for Commons who took one touch too many and was robbed. Fraser Forster was called into action again soon thereafter when he blocked a Nicky Law effort.
Paddy McCourt replaced Samaras with 15 minutes to go and transformed the game. On 79 minutes he collected the ball inside his own half, drifted through a nervous looking Motherwell midfield until he reached the edge of the D before feeding Stokes on the left. Stokes made space before rifling the ball into the six yard box for Gary Hooper to score the winner.
Tim Clancy was shown a straight red card late on for kicking Gary Hooper. If referee Charlie Richmond had taken an earlier opportunity to control Lasley or Jennings, Gary Hooper, James Forrest and Beram Kayal would perhaps have finished the game with fewer injuries.

Only behind the security of your keyboard, knob jockey.
Great result neil and the bhoys.
Should be many more on here apologising for arguing very recently that neil should be replaced. The manager’s substitutions won us the game.
Agree with all the mib comments and as for that tackle yesterday which led to the huns pen; it was so ‘blatant’ it reminded me of the pakistani ‘no balls’ that led to the recent convictions.
mark hateley-uber hun; super-tw*t. The critical ability of a rare breed pedigree dog combined with the expressive ability of a 14 year old regular truant from a Larkhall school.
“the only distraction that can distract…”
Obviously was taught the word in his ‘media studies for backward huns’ class. Very well attended class I hear!

If Bolo Zenden was watching the game today, I doubt he will want to sign after seeing what we have to endure as a matter of course.
Resign for the sham Celtic.

You need to relax MC lets go back to the article and i guarantee you will apoligise to me…
Green Lantern – against Rankers they committed 8 fouls to Buns 11.
Clearly instructed to kick lumps out of us with the expectation that they’d get away with it.
Hail! Hail!

Did you all notice the celebration and sheer joy on Hooper’s face when knocked in the winner?
The same joy was evident on Thursday night when he scored.
I’ve not seen that from him all season after any goal. Welcome back Gary.
The eight Celtic fouls today were mostly for wee diddy fouls, or non existent ones like Sammi sliding along side their player, or catching a ball after it had gone out.
Hmmmmmmm.
Downtown Abbey on tv now – finishes at half ten, meaning i will prob miss the highlights of the Celtic.
Maybe i should go in and crack her over the head with a hammer fs.
Nightmare. :(
James Forrest was left out the full Scotland squad because he was apparently needed for the Under 21s match next Monday in Holland.
I will be absolutely raging if he is allowed to join up with the squad after the abuse he took today, he (among several others) will need the full 2 weeks break.
Celtic have to make some sort of stand against the officials’ failure to protect players today. Shocking.
Jordans fund has been met and exceeded
few videos i took of the players after the match today including a bit of a laugh between Stokesy and Beram
one of PL too
am uploadin NL file too but its a bit bigger and takin longer
excellent 3pts !!
we can do it !!
cheers

They commited more than 20 fould today.
Craigen’s elbow into Sammi’s ribs, no foul, it was a straight red offence, review panel, naw didny think so, cheating hunnery at it’s finest.
Resign Celtic, it’s the only answer.

See the small people who resort to calling others huns – cant you see that that is the ultimate failure in any argument because they can not come up with a come back – so simply retort you are a hun..
Ignore it and ignore them
becoming involved in a slanging match does nothing on a blog like this.
disagreements in healthy debate on all things Celtic is what makes this site.
i dont come on here to agree with everyone – that would be pretty boring…
Cheers Topcorner, great one of Paddy !

You find a comment where Ive slagged the hoops, board or a player and i will be surprised. Not into putting the boot into Celtic leave that to others,if i’m guilty of sticking by them well i go to games with thousands of huns.Just for the record you will never be my mate and you are a knob jockey.

I don’t have a problem normally [unless we are playing the hun] but today was bad, there weren’t too many career threatening fouls, just a want to disable us, and they did with ease.
How are players supposed to perform under those conditions, worrying about getting clattered knowing they can’t retaliate, it’s a sham.
For the good of the Celtic family.
Resign Celtic, tis the only answer.

Who started it as you always do you have a chip on yer shoulder and that is a fact and the debate we had the other night proved that.
I will email paul67 and get him to check my comments from the other night but I’m telling you now you are making a fool of yourself because i did not call you a hun and yes i called you it tonight because you were talking shite saying i called you it the other night and i can remember who i was chatting to his username was set free the bears or something along them lines.
All i said to you the other night was i hate the way our club is being run ie we didn’t spend when we could’ve bought fletcher because sammy etc wasn’t scoring at the time and i also said sometimes we need to take risks.
Last week the whole site was talking about our board so why didn’t you pull everyone up for it then hmmm. You then posted a comment to me and tried to be a smart ass so i will email him noo if someone can post his email and i will post my comments tomorrow when a new article is posted and believe me you are making a tit of yerself and you will apoligise…

So Celtic’s lawyer thinks the English Tories are friends to Scotland?

As much a friend as the Donut is to Celtic maybe?
Active in politics, in April 2009 McBride made a high-profile defection from the Scottish
Labour Party to the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party (Red hand of Ulster party to you and me)
So I wonder where this political technocrat is heading next? SNP? Liberals?
