Motherwell game encapsulated much of our season

382

After exploiting the inadequacies of Aberdeen and Newco with 10 men in consecutive league games, it was all a bit ineffective against 10-man Motherwell yesterday.  This game encapsulated so much of the football we watch: how to generate clear scoring chances against defences that stick to task and do not make mistakes.

The one gilt-edged chance we made was a late counterattack, when Motherwell had the audacity to try to win the game.  The script was written for Scott Sinclair, whose first touch was sublime, but his shot fell victim to a lunging defensive block.  The lesson, surely, when facing Celtic, is not to venture too far up the park.

Brendan should reflect on this when next we face tier-one Champions League opponents.  If Motherwell can stop Celtic, Celtic can do likewise to the PSGs of this world.  How to unlock a packed defence is another story.

    Depression creeps up on you.

So true, and at the end the depression seems to lift as you see what you think is the way out, people need to be helped before they see suicide as the answer.

People around them suddenly think everything is ok as the sprits raise, but only because they think they have the solution

  2. DD in an uncharacteristic moment I will tell you I had a pretty serious bout of what I call stress but my family call depression.

It was around Christmas about 10 years ago. Christmas seems to be the worse time.

All I wil say was it was incredibly debilitating. I can’t quite remember how I got past it(my wife said a lot of prayers which of course I don’t believe in).

    Life remains rough, difficlult etc.

But my friend I remember how tough it was for my parents back in the drum and I try and reconcile it.

It’s really a,aging people on the blog telling the same sort of stories. I think us males of a certain age have the chance to help those younger because just talking seems to help. Too often we lock ourselves away.

But listen did. I am a cantacerous pain in the arse. I refuse to accept anything at face value so please don’t tell anyone on this blog what I said.

    Paul67 might be listening…….

    Good stuff..

In my job as a WRO I meet and help several people a week who suffer from anxiety and depression and those lovely people who interview them at Cadogan st have the audacity to ask them if they have suicidal thoughts

Benefit cuts and sanctions leave the already vulnerable feeling that they can’t get out

We need to have more support from health professionals to assist and support the vulnerable in our society

    Re, them Piper’s,,,

The day yer man said what would you have me do ,, arrest the full stand? It became a societal issue.

Football is just the vehicle in this instance.

PL has a right to look to those above in positions of authority i believe.

Holding a whitewash ( expect anything else?) And saying there’s proof right there.

    Help?

Maybe it’s only me feels like that.

One thing that I keep thinking is,,

If thems die,,,I know we keep being told but this time it does actually look as if it could go belly up,, if thems die,,

    Where do the crowd go?

    I fear,,,meet ,,drink,,,get riled,,march somewhere,,,

and people best stay out of the way as it could easily get very very ugly.

    God bless anyone in hoops.

    I really hope I’m wrong.

Depression knows no social or economic boundaries – in that sense we are all vulnerable. You are of course spot on that there is a lack of investment across that sector.

  15. John Beattie is one of life’s good guys.

    On this issue and generally.

I have a lot of time and respect for him.

Hard as nails on a rugby pitch. One tackle and it was over. Knee blown. Asked the doctor in the changing room how long he’d be out for and the medic gave him a smoke and a look of sympathy.

I read a fascinating biography by Roger Steffens. ‘So Much Things To Say’.

Really interesting how ad hoc and fluid the early days were around the time of that song. and sad about how few of the royalties were ever seen by Nesta or the other artists.

    SOT,

    If you’ll please forgive me,,

Re , your recent music posts.

Myself and the wife had a great night in Belfast about 15 years ago with Lee “Scratch” the main event.

Don’t get me wrong it was a spectacle,,,and that suit he was wearing was something else,,but I don’t think he was singing at all,,just playing along with it.? Do you know if that’s the case?

The father in law some years back finally fulfilled his ambition to see Bb King and got front row seats yet left cringing after BB was wheeled out to basically play a wee bit of guitar now and again while he was “carried”.

Not long ago I almost went to see the beach boys,,,an old fav,,but after reading the reviews of how they basically stand and smile with no pretence of “live” I left it.

The arena resorted to free tickets a few days before the “gig”.

The gigs I missed,,especially in that general area,,are the grateful dead. How I wish I’d been there!

Respect , always like your posts,,and I’ve looked upon some of your “neighborhood”,,Calabria was beautiful.

  22. Gooooooood Evening CQN

Some brilliant posts on this fine day

DD, just highlighting the strength and support of this blog (glad your about to read this :-))))

And Yes I am still trying to promote the sale of jockeys for a Race night to support Let Us Shine.

Over 50 jockeys signed up, through CQN

Over 100 Celtic strips donated for the girls school through CQN – my goodness over 100 girls in the hoops in the middle of Ghana :-)))

8 fabulous race winners gifts donated by the Walk with Shay team through CQN.

several CQN’rs attending the race night on Friday in support :-))

I had my daughter here tonight absolutely buzzing, about the continued support CQN brings to her Charitable work – I mean absolutely buzzing.

Anyway, we are into race 7 for Jockey sponsors ( the jockeys only being sold on CQN – so definately will be 8 winners on the blog )

So if you want to be in with a 1 in 8 chance of winning a special prize, and supporting a very worthy child in Ghana

Anyway, only 4 days until my daughter Laura and St Mary’s Bannockburn hold the Charity Fundraising Race night in aid of Let Us Shine, our local schools sponsored girls school in Ghana

So for £5, if anyone would like to join in :-))

    The prizes

This will be a high quality A3 print and the winner can choose from:

    (1) An amazing print of a drawing as a tribute to 50 years of Lisbon drawn by our very own Thunder Road

    (2) An awesome pic of the Lisbon Lions holding the Big Cup back home

    (3) A visually “green tainted” print of Cesar holding the BIg Cup

    (4) A superb signed print from a painting of TOHG hanging off the crossbar after winning the 1965 cup final painted by our very own Celtic Rose.

    Hail Hail

This is to support my daughter Laura, who in turn is supporting a small Charity “Let Us Shine” a girls school in the middle of Ghana.

This school is sponsored by St Mary’s Bannockburn ( where Laura teaches) St Margaret’s Cowie & Our Lady’s Raploch plus our local churches.

Laura will Fly to Ghana, travel 10hrs on a bus, then a further 2 hours to get to this school, and be only the 2nd fully qualified teacher to teach the girls, some of whom travel 4 hrs walk to get to the school for both education and a feed.

Laura ( & St Mary’s ) have arranged a race night on 23rd March at 7.30 – tickets £5, and would grateful if any CQN’rs could join CRC and I at this

Alternatively win one of the above prizes through sponsoring a jockey in one of the races for £5.

    Contact – laurahmccabe@icloud.com

Laura is looking to raise £3000 to help sustain this school, and has booked 2*30kg cases to travel and hopefully fill with essential items for the girls – this includes Celtic strips :-))

Looks like one of the cases already filled with books, due to her school kids efforts, and at least 1 other with Celtic tops :-)))

So if you have a spare £5 take a 1 in 8 chance to own a print – donated by the Walk with Shay team

Thanks for listening, and to those who have already entered good luck

So it’s laurahmccabe@icloud.com, and only £5 for a chance to win

    Good luck

    &

    Hail Hail

PS – G, don’t you go anywhere, we have 10 to see :-)))

  23. So, JJ is at the wind up about the huns and an arrestment order, is he just soliciting for more donations, who knows, I would have thought there would be some hard evidence but alas no, seems he is at it again, what a tosser he is, he will have the begging bowl out no doubts and the ejits will donate to him, fools and their money…..
