Motherwell need to get emotions under control rapidly

327

Meeting a self-proclaimed aggrieved opponent is seldom an appetising prospect, but I would rather have Motherwell away tomorrow than any other opponent.

Our opponents have stoked a sense of injustice brought about when their defender impeded Scott Sinclair, and finished the final as a contest.

What Motherwell manager Steve Robinson should not be doing is polluting his thoughts with what has been and gone. He could find himself two goals down within 15 minutes if his players take to the field with anything more than a desire to stop the champions running amok.

Motherwell can go fourth in the table if they win their game in hand, but the experience of Dundee United in 2015 should caution them. United were flying high before facing Celtic four times in succession. A Scottish Cup draw was followed by defeat in the League Cup final, the Cup replay and the league. That period broke United, who were physically and emotionally wrecked by the experience. They slid down the table and into relegation the next season.

After tomorrow, Motherwell have four consecutive away games, all in the league. If they don’t get their emotions under control rapidly, Celtic will punish them and things could get out of control before Christmas.

  1. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

There is a page on facebook called Scottish Football of yesteryear , which is quite interesting especially as it does not focus mostly on us or either Ibrox club.

A few weeks ago someone posted a photo of the horrible Willie McVie when he played for Hearts . Various posts from Clyde and Motherwell fans remembering his time at Shawfield and Fir Park.

Yours truly was the first to mention his horrendous tackle on Brian McLaughlin.

Today James McFadden posted about Bran McLaughlin , saying not only did McVie ruin Bran’s Celtic career but Brian suffered mentally because , apart from some time with Ayr and Motherwell, he never fulfilled his potential , and never got what over MCVie’s assault on him caused.

This has been the subject of discussion on CQN around the Festive Season for a number of years. Let me provide a summary of various Dictionary and Historic interpretations (not mine):

Xmas was first used in the mid 1500s. X is the Greek letter “chi,” the initial letter in the word Χριστός meaning “Christ.” X has been an acceptable representation of the word “Christ” for hundreds of years. This device is known as a Christogram. The mas in Xmas is the Old English word for “mass.” In the same vein, the dignified terms Xpian and Xtian have been used in place of the word “Christian.”

    Hope that helps?

I thought that was the jist of my comment, although I would argue it was used earlier.

X ., never referred to Jesus…simply as an abbreviation of Christ, Chi, and so on. Nearly buses etc.. there but that would have led to more confusion.

Anyway what has religion got to do with Xmas ? It’s the prime time for football according to a Sky Sports.

  4. I thought Xmas was the abrieviation for 10 mass’s because as a kid that’s what it felt like leaving your Scaletrix or Hornby train set to have to go to church and sing and pray.

Thanks – missed your reply whilst typing and trying to get the it’s all Greek to me symbols correct. :-)

Had thought about using the old adage X marks the spot but given the past few days discussions on that penalty kick I decided not to.

It might have provoked some of our Old Timers to reference ‘Spot the Ball’ and why it was dropped…………………

It never featured Oldco – invariable the ball was always on the penalty spot! :-)

  6. Familiarity can definitely breed contempt. Prior to the triple header against Motherwell I thought we would be doing well to come through it with our unbeaten record and our players intact. Kipre’s horrendous tackle on Moussa could easily have been career ending. With feelings running high i fear there could be afters tomorrow with cards a plenty followed by a further game at CP on Saturday. Who comes up with these fixture schedules. Hh

Corkie. Hopefully we will meet up some day and i will tell you how I was thrown out of the Arts Club in Fitzwilliam Steeet over that song .

*memories of Woolies in Dumbarton when it was part of the 10 bob album, also belting it out on the Balloch tae brigton via Yoker train.

  8. I hope tomorrow we give Robinson the pumping he would rather have had at the weekend, go get them griff

  9. Philbhoy.8.00.

I shed a few tears myself, in a happy sort of way, remembering fondly good friends who I travelled everywhere with, who sadly are no longer with us.

How they would have loved these times.

A great video, well done Celtic.

    Hail Hail

  10. At 2.39 I was overexcited when typing my post and inadvertently references ‘IT’ as being the source of my 2 tickets for tomorrow night. May I apologise profusely to HT for failing to properly recognise his help in these matters. But there’s more…

At 5.33pm I received a text from HT, apologising profusely and explaining that the previously promised tickets were unlikely to materialise. Through no fault of his. So I started arranging Plan B – round to the Bhoy’s house tomorrow for live commentary on the radio and the Sevco Dons game on in the background. But there’s more (again)…

At 7.46pm there’s further contact from HT as he has now sourced another 2 tickets.

So, as things stand, it’s Fir Park for me. Can’t wait.

Oh and further thanks to our very own Kickinthenakas for kindly offering me a private parking space for the game!

What a fine community CQN can be at times!

*I was like a lot on here and thought that xmas denigrated the name of Christ until a Franciscan priest educated me to what you have posted above, I was also led tae believe that the catechumens used it when on the run.

BTW the Franciscans were the creators of the first Christmas crib complete with live animals.

  12. Jobo as you are acknowledging kind CQN’ers may I also acknowledge Bournesouprecipie & Eurochamps who have supplied me with 2 tickets for each of our home Champion League games.

Eurochamps is facing a major operation next Monday so please everyone say a prayer that all will be well.

p.s. Jobo give my best to ol’ kikinthenakas, a pure mental bassa with a heart of gold.

  13. Hello again all you young rebels.

Just to get away from the ERNIE LYNCH troll show for a minute

isn’t it wonderful Celtic are interested in buying a share in

Central Coast Mariners here in Oz.

I’ve shouted long enough on here about some amazing talent

over here and now they seem to be taking a serious look at it.

Our own soccer club here in Cardinia has been approached by

the Celtic Acadamy to host it’s next visit to Victoria and if that

comes off you won’t be able to keep our young bhoys feet on

the ground, more to come on that.

And… and… you never know we might even get a wee Celtic

    shoppe in Melbourne :-))

  14. For what it’s worth, I still have a certificate from my school days entitled Final Religious Examination of Secondary Pupils. Awarded to me, a pupil at St Patrick’s High School, Dumbarton, having passed the Final Religious Examination of Secondary Pupils set by the Scottish Catholic Hierarchy. Dated 22nd November 1966 and signed by the Bishop Aberdeen, Secretary to the Scottish Hierarchy.

I think it meant that if I became a teacher I could teach religion in a Catholic school.
