Supersuton, Rogic had a good game but for me KT was MOTM. he was top notch down the left hand side!

  2. Nothing for ages then two on the bounce.

I remember Gordon Strachan pointing out we hadn’t had a penalty away from home in over a year. We got a stonewaller in our very next game up in Dundee (I think).

    It’s a funny old game.

  3. Morning invincibles….

Lustig will be on the bell for the foreseeable nights oot !

Great for Sinclair to grab that goal…

    Motm Googly Gollum…..

Smiley precious my precious my precious thing…

    Braw.

  4. While we can all acknowledge that our penalty award was far from a stonewaller, it should be noted that we had 21 shots comared with 5 by Well: we had 7 on target (does that include Lustig’s og?) compared with 1 by Well (was that the Lustig og?), and we had 7 corners to their 4.

In addition Well had 18 fouls and 4 Yellow Cards when we had 8 fouls and one yellow.

    So- suck it up Robinson!

And- thank God Willie Collum’s eyes are in the back of his head. Despite last night, he is still very far into the debit column when it comes to decisions awarded to or against Celtic.

  5. Chairbhoy- thx mate, appreciated.

Therapy- currently reading him the 67 book. Might post a few snippets from it tomorrow.

When is a penalty not a penalty?

    A. When it’s awarded to Celtic.

  6. If you kick an opponent at every opportunity, eventually the referee is going to assume that every time you make contact with an opponent you have fouled him.

These Motherwell thugs really have made a rod for their own backs.

Well that’s the argument applied in reference to players that go down to easily, it must work the other way too…

I’m looking forward to our penalty on Saturday. I hope it is equally controversial, or even controversialer…

  7. 50 shades of green on

Another day another greeting faced Motherwell player.

When coaching the mantra was ” never give the ref a chance to make a decision “.

    Who’s coaching these hammer throwers????.

Immediate danger had gone, Calmacs heading away from goal.

    Stupid challenge.

    Good morning CQN

Watching the penalty incident again this morning on the CQN link,

It was never a soft penalty, it was a clever penalty. Watch from the angle looking direct towards the Mother’s goal

Callum gets in front of the defender and checks his run. The defender clearly barges into the back of Callum, knocking him over.

  9. Doesn’t matter where your running as long as the illegal challenge is inside the box, we seem to be huffing and puffing a bit when taking chances need a comfortable win with a few goals to settle everyone down a bit, not in the least surprised at Aberdeen last night, McInnes is a dumpling and failure as a manager, a press creation as they think he could work a miracle at Sevco, if I was and Aberdeen fan I would be raging at this result last night.

  10. Joe Filippis Haircut on

According to the main stream press Sparky wants to leave for England in the January transfer with at least three clubs fighting for him.I hope this story is rubbish as many transfer stories are as I think he was a great signing and allways gives 100% and I would not like to see us lose him.H.H.

  11. dessybhoy

Yes, it really is bewildering that so many Dons still rate Derek McInnes & The Bottlemerchants.

Anyone that thinks O’Connor, McKenna, Tansey and Considine are good enough for the so called ‘second force’ is clearly not a good manager.

  12. So, let’s be clear, for it to be a penalty to Celtic, the Celtic player must be maimed or at least seriously hurt. Got it?

No daft shoves or pushes, grabs or grapples, tugs or trips, only manly, brutality. And, the ensuing match report and/or analysis must only focus on ‘soft’ decisions by refs.

    Simples.

  13. I love it when the media are greetin’ about any decisions that favour Celtic.

Not a peep about the hand ball that denied us a penalty and a man advantag eat Hampdump against ICT with two referees watching it.

Not a peep about Efe’s sending off against Ross County when Schalk went shot like a shot Doo

Nothing said about Sinclair deserving a penalty against Hibs this season, indeed Willie Collum allegedly told a Celtic player if Sinclair had gone down he would have given it? Did Neil Lennon complain about that decision?

  14. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

All this stuff about controversial penalties. Get the game won and we won’t need a penalty, controversial or not.

    Like,erm,Sunday…

  15. I know it’s a strange thing to say about a team that has gone 66 games undefeated but last few weeks they have gone a wee bit flat.

I thought the away win in Aberdeen late October, especially first half, was a pure brilliant performance but since then, we have been OK but not brilliant at domestic level.

We are still good enough to beat any domestic opponent but either the opposition have sussed how to combat our style or some of our Bhoys have gone off the boil,

We have drawn with Killie & The Mothers & needed a late super free from The Griff to avoid a 3rd draw with Ross County.

Maybe time to give a couple of regulars a break & freshen up squad.

Miller, Ralston, Kouassi, Ajer, Henderson, Hayes & NtCham must be chomping at the bit for a game,

  16. glendalystonsils on

Let’s get this straight you lot.

If any Celtic player is decapitated, disembowelled, garotted, strangled , maimed or killed in the opposition box ,

    it is NOT a penalty.

    Cheatin Fenian bassas.

  17. Well done Scott Sinclair and The INVINCIBLES.

My computer is working again this morning but I can’t access CQN from my desktop as a window comes up stating ” this site can’t provide a safe connection”….and yet I am accessing CQN and typi g this post via my mobile !

  18. Morning all

    Wee day off.

As I said last night I did not think the game was a good one. Our team is playing well only in patches of games ay the moment and for all the stats showing lots of shots on goal in recent games we do not look like scoring many goals. One goal from open play in the last three domestic games with 2 goals from penalties we were lucky to get*

I know that there are many here who object to making observatons on the tactics employed by the manager and to criticism of individual players but….

It struck me quite early in the game that Griff was far too isolated up front. Other than McGregor – who was his usual neatly effective self – none of our midfieders were ever really close enough to Leigh to be of help to him especially in the first half. The jury has probably not even heard closing arguments re Edouard far less reached a verdict but I would have had him on earlier than he came on against a defence that was made to look more secure than it is. And yeah I know Brendan Rodgers is a far better coach than I ever was but it does not necesarily mean I am wrong.

A big problem at this moment is that two of our midfielders – Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic are not scoring many goals. 7 between them I think this season with very few if any since early September. I think SA is showing some signs of form as he was pretty energetic last night but although there are sublime moments TR is off form and arguably has never reached the levels he was showing this time last year prior to a bad injury. Worse though he looks half hearted at times and seems unwilling to challenge for the ball even in situations where he is favourite to get it. This happened on at least three occasions last night. Tom almost scored a sublime goal but that should not disguise that he gave a mostly ineffective display. For Tom the winter break cannot come quick enough – some sun and a chance to recharge the batteries are needed

I am not one of those contributors who likes to criticise but last night and the game in Dingwall were worrying. So far Brendan has got his team right against teams we would be favourites to beat but who woud be expected to run us close- Astana, Be’ersheba, Aberdeen, Rangers, Anderlecht and the two most recent matches at Hampden. We face Anderlecht again on Tuesday night in a massive match. Hopefully the ability to raise our game will continue. But personally I am dreading this game more than I thought I would.

    * i think on further viewing we were lucky that the Motherwell defender was a clumsy oaf

  19. I was very disappointed that it looked like, in the 50th Anniversary year, we would not be reaching 67 undefeated. Very pleased that we now have the chance to do so on Saturday.

Re us being a wee bit off form. Goals do not only determine the results of games but they also, IMO, influence our appraisal of performance. We had two or three very good chance last night, some near misses and some excellent goalkeeping from the Motherwell custodian.

On another night, we could have scored the required amount of goals to attract praise all round.

Maybe we are going through a` slump` but I am not convinced that such is the case. Also, of course, is the possibility that we are just growing used to our excellence.

  20. Must admit when they scored with 12 minutes to go I feared the worst – fortunately the invincibles didn’t give up. Got me thinking of when, and it will be when, we lose our run who would it be to. Will the pain be any less depending on who the victors are? Ran through the options and decided that no matter who it is it will hurt.

Few changes required for Saturday with Tuesday in mind.

  21. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

I watched the game on Celtic TV last night (when pictures were available) and thought we played reasonably well. Motherwell are a tough team to beat; the are physical (agricultural actually), disciplined in their formation; hard working; press the ball quickly; and do a carry a threat up front with Moult.

We had plenty of the ball last night and on another night their keeper wouldn’t have made fantastic saves from Tierney, Rogic and McGregor (twice); and the ball that hit the post and went back into his arms would have gone in or ricocheted to a Celtic player.

We could very easily have won by 5 or 6 last night and the tone this morning would be very different.

I expect a similar number of chances on Saturday and expect us to put them away this time!

I also see a wee bit of criticism for Edouard; the boy hisnae had a chance yet, so I will reserve judgement until he gets the opportunity to really show us what he can do.

Couldn’t agree more. Their pain and outrage enhances the pleasure. They’re desperate to see Celtic lose a game LOL!

thought about Hibs but after lenny all but called sinky a cheat – and move on Petrie – not so sure

  24. From what I saw last night of the game, it’s good to have Big Jozo back, the Bhoy reads the game very well and with Dedrycks speed at the back it’s just what we need for the weekend and of course for Tuesday night against Anderlecht..

  25. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Half hour highlights of our 1980 European Cup game against Real Madrid on BT Sport 2 at 2.30pm today. I was at the game. A 67000 sell out crowd as an amazing game… and result.

I can remember being initially disappointed that Madrid were not wearing their all white kit, but instead plumped for all blue.

If after the game, anybody on here was queuing at the lights at Parkheid Cross (Gallowgate, heading east). Apologies for running over the bonnet of your car… we were a wee bit excited, and alcohol had been taken ;-)

  26. Watched this –

    Anderlecht 4-Kortrijk 0 .

    3rd top v 3rd bottom .

Anderlecht streets ahead of Kortrijk . Commentator / post match reviewers expounded the view that Anderlecht were improving after a terrible start to the season … Kortrijk are a superior team to Motherwell -IMO .

I do agree; however, I would like to see Nir Bitton continue to be coached into that position. To me he looks like a fantastic centre back in the making and it really could be his position. The prospect of a back 3 with Bitton, Simunovic and Boyata would, IMHO, work very well and give us more options in midfield for playing Tierney and the mad Swede further forward.

An alternative is to play Bitton just in front of Simunovice and Boyata after further tutelage as a centre half.

  28. We’ve conceded many ‘soft’ penalty’s in Europe over the years. We’re told that we’re naive, can’t do that in Europe etc. If only referees would apply the rules to tackling here as they do in Europe maybe our clubs would fair better. I’m sure the last time Motherwell played in Europe they had a number of sending offs. This side wouldn’t finish a game.
