Motivations of Deans, his journo and others

267

You know what side of society you live in when the print and online media carry claims from former Hearts chairman, Leslie Deans, that a football game should be replayed because a player was hit by a missile.

It is to the credit of the player in question, Barrie McKay, that he made nothing of the cup thrown at him, but when we have seen actual assaults on Celtic players on the field at Ibrox in recent seasons pass with scarcely a mention, you see the context of life in Scotland.

Digging out these relics of a former era to make completely untrue allegations (that Celtic have not issued apologies) is the extent to which some will go to establish an impression that Celtic and their fans are dishonourable beneficiaries of illicit gains.  Before you get into it, all charges against solicitor Deans were dropped five years ago, there are no criminal charges outstanding.  His character remains as it was.

The motivation of Deans, the journalist who quoted him, or the many others who make a living by having a kick at Celtic, are different, but the effect is the same.  To win as we have in recent seasons, Celtic need to be exceptional.

  1. There is no ‘strict liability’ in Scottish football – Deans knows it and so do all the ‘bandwagon’ pundits who have jumped on this issue.

The match was won by the vastly superior team on the day – everything else is merely ‘noises off’.

  2. Celtic plc need to stop messing about here and wait on things to blow over, we need to highlight, contest, moan and fight dirty when necessary to the attacks on the club and our players, in my opinion a serious look needs to be had at the clubs PR , whose output is weak or absent, bullies will do as bullies do grow a set fight back hire the best get on with it.

  4. I think that the word has gone out — jungle drums / ludge scuttlebutt / nods and winks — to those that want to listen that there is price on the head of each and every player in the team and the MIB will attempt to look the other way when required.

What we are seeing week after week is “Buddyball meets the SPL”.

Usual suspects can be relied on to leave a shoe in / put it about to hurt our players.

It is not a full team under instruction — it is the ego trippers out to embellish their reputation / TFOD acolytes out to help the cause — and it will get worse if things are allowed to fester.

Getting the 2022 CL cash to our friends in Govan is now the be all and end all of the season.

The NT does not matter to this mindset — DT is a growing part of that team but who cares if he is injured for the WC play-offs?

JS and his “pinch” seems to be history.

We need to act smart and sort it out.

  5. What’s the difference between a snowman and a snow women and Celtic board members?

    Snowbaws.

  6. Leslie Deans. No criminal charges outstanding. Reminds me a little of another high profile jambo, Alex sleepy cuddles Salmond. Not guilty of any criminality. Smoke.No. Fire. Without.

The perceived wisdom back in June was that Stevie G was here for 56. Back-to-back Champions League group stage money would fix the Ibrox finances. Glasgow was blue and white. Over on Kerrydale Street, the fallen champions were in disarray, the long flirt with Howe ended in tears and some unknown Greek Aussie bloke was mentioned as a likely new manager. The new manager would need a squad rebuild. 56 would be done and dusted by Halloween.

Has the June script fallen in a puddle or been put through the shredder ?

Board comments re your leader Paul?

    Naw thought not……..

    —–

Why on earth would the board even contemplate commenting?

If we get drawn in to these pointless distractions, our card is marked and we will be expected to give a running commentary on every stupid subject that crops up……..if we don’t get involved, we will be labelled consenting, or, guilty by default..e.g. “Celtic refuse to comment on the flat-earth debate”

Deans character remains as it was , indeed .

The same character as those who populate the home stands at Tynecastle , Who aim punches at Celtic players when they go to collect the ball , or throw the ball viciously at them . Or leave the stands to attack the Celtic manager .

But those fans are just one cog in the Celtic-hating machine in Scotland .

Is it any surprise that charges were dropped against Deans? What could he possibly have in common with those who make such decisions?

Hmmmmm , as they say .

  9. The Green Brigade and Bhoys have just announced there will be silent protests at the next two home games unless the board meet with the supporters groups to discuss the Higgins appointment. If they meet for discussions the second protest will be cancelled for the game against Motherwell.

  10. The Celtic Board may not be commenting but surely should be asking questions about the selective appearance and comments of SFA Head of Refereeing, Crawford Allan, on Saturday’s BBC Sportsound.

  11. Good afternoon all.

This Higgins creature is about start to have an impact on our team as there will be no atmosphere over the next 2 games.

I really hope it does not impact our season, then again thats probably what this board want.

    D :)

  12. Another negative comment about life in Scotland.Personally dont find it that bad.

    Hail Hail brothers

  13. The Silent Protest –

I hope the blog joins in the spirit of the Great Leaders on here who led the Celts for Change campaign and the Kill the Bill protest,

what you mean they didny ?

I will be at the matches, so probably wont get logged on anyways

  14. Celtic need to be exceptional in the boardroom but do they even have a pulse?

Ange is doing a brilliant job but I don’t want him distracted by something that the board should handle.

  15. ohits

Of course they could always sing ‘Silent Night’ if they knew the words that is. Or mime in this case.

Then again the song’s history might be a wee bit too religious for them, so best stick to Roamin,

    Roamin Kafflik that is.

For Leslie Deans to be demanding anything for the diets is beyond belief and for the journalist not to broach the attack on NL says everything about scottish sports media.

Call it as it is. The scottish football association and associated parties (inc media) are 100% anti celtic. They are fearful of the club becoming the success we have been for last 20 years, following last seasons hiccup and are not ashamed to show their support for all things associated to the new club playing out of ibrox and their rabid supporter base. Everything that can be done to stop us will be done.

My only glimmering light is that we have a manager that will see through them all and beat them on the pitch – they can go out their way to rubbish/destroy us in the public eye but the manager will deliver the points for prizes, and that will kill them.

Video 3 captures just how vindictive police officers were, from Higgins on down, when dealing with football fans. Was the Livingstone game the previous Silent Protest match?

I didn`t think we played to our usual standard that day. Connected?

It would seem tomorrow`s is the first of the two,. As I expect a relatively small crowd for that one anyway, the atmosphere could be almost non-existent.

    Lol Pablo.

For some reason your acerbic comment reminds me of an episode of “Frasier” when he is hosting a party.

He discusses with a guest, the presence of another guest – a disgraced financier, previously PNG, now back in the fold of the Seattle establishment.

“I didn’t know the trial was over”

“Yes, he was acquitted on all charges”

    “Oh, so he was innocent?”

“No” (eyebrows raised) .. “Just acquitted”

So why did the SNP fight so hard to retain their Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 when they knew this is what it entailed?

And why is it that even now not a single solitary SNP politician or official has breathed a word of criticism of the legislation or its implementation?

  23. HOT SMOKED

The Livingstone game was the first protest , we dont normally struggle against them at home but did that day, was it connected ? its hard to say but we were well off it that day.

Having listened to the testament of the Bhoys affected by the PS bully boy tactics I know whos side I take in all of this , I dont want the team to suffer so step up Mr Nicholson.

  24. I see on the Bye Bye Barkas article on CQN that Craig Gordon “quit at the end of his contract to reunite with Hearts”. This seems to be letting NL and PL off the hook. They refused to offer Craig Gordon an appropriate new contract.

  25. Silence from the GB.

    Silence from the pensioner battlers.

Silence from the commando comic readers.

No more songs about big hats / Dublin green / 60’s fascists / sub machine guns / happy tractor haters …

    Result.

  26. Bearing in mind the importance of winning the league this season

And bearing in mind the importance of a good start and an early goal against teams that park the bus

Wouldn’t a different protest, that doesnt have such a direct impact on the team and the whole support gain more sympathy from the entire fan base and be more effective

It feels like they’re putting their own interests ahead of the team and the support as a whole

We need to start gamers as well as we can. We don’t need our own handicapping that
