Mouyokolo and the Perrier-Doumbe path to immortality

768

Steven Mouyokolo’s last two permanent contracts were for clubs playing Premier League football in England but after joining Hull City as a 22-year-old and making 21 appearances in their relegation season, his move to Wolves bombed amid a multitude of injuries.  The player has made four appearances for Wolves and four for Sochaux in the last three years.

He no longer has the profile which would be considered in the English Premier League; which is why he’s pitched up in Scotland.  If his knee passes a medical this week, he’ll become the latest 6’3” defender on the Celtic books, competition for Kelvin, Virgil, Charlie, Efe and the rest.

Competition is good but Steven’s chances of edging out the competition to become a first team regular must be considered slight with his injury record, whether he passes the medical or not.  It’s more likely he’ll follow the path of Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe, although Champions League football and a Cup Final winner is not a bad return.

They most certainly were a special breed. I attended St Anthony’s primary and the St Gerard’s secondary. And was an alter boy in St Convillles in Pollok in the late 50′s and early 60′s.:)

Anybody else concerned at the manager having more centre halves to chose from?

I am, he struggles to get two to work together and changes them each week, The centre half partnership that beat Barcelona did ok that night, proper management would solidify that further.

Why are we looking at the fella from wolves? I like the signing of van Dijk though, but suspecting asseting players is becoming the priority over settled team.

Maybe the manager uses all these defensive midfielders to cover the centre halves that he has to keep faffing about with?

I attended lourdes secondary from 1973 until 1977… first year in the old annexe next to the cop shop.

From memory we had the only floodlit football park in glasgow schools at that time

  24. Mr Jinky was there about same time remember pitch well it also had tennis courts at one end prior to games hall being built which ultimately spoiled pitch -best thing about annexe was no birds to get in the way as they were off limits at Belses Dr

  25. What’s going on I not been on for a couple of days, I was down in that London yesterday came on and welcomed erm Zihuatanejo (c&p) to the site in traditional fashion. Oh it is great having traditions I remember another club that used to have “traditions” but well….. no more.

That photo, I am in my erm early 40’s andd had never seen it before might be the camera lens was on and it’s just been removed. I remember seeing it though when I was trawling Celtic web sites but I think someone posted it on on Twitter, I just sat there staring for ages then started wondering why I had never seen it before. Anyway I went straight on to CQN and posted it. Sorry for the delay, had my dinner then brother phoned to tell me he was a wee bitty excited about going to Berlin next wk. I must have been writing this for about an hour now inbetween dinner and phone. Wine & Pinacoladas, weans away on holiday for the wk and I think my first Friday off for months.
