Need to find edge to match United

935

Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice.  For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action.  For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season.  United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions.  Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.

For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow.  I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.

We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.

Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

    Roy Croppie,

re The Farm. I mind being down at Anfield for a testimonial (Ronnie Moran’s?) and us belting out Altogether now for about 10 mins non-stop.

Im sure Peter Hooton was on the pitch with Ronnie Moran trying to do the “speech” and the 2 of them laughing at how we kept on singing even though they wanted to talk.

Im sure that was also the game when we actually had that new Anfield Road Stand literally moving with our jumping around!

Loved those testimonials…..not so much the results back then though! MON sorted that out…

Def Celtic end, 40 yards imo. At the time, best goal I had ever witnessed. Still see him in ML 4 fairly often.

  7. what does it mean to pull on those hoops and be a celt ?

there are probably a thousand who meet the criteria of not shrinking the jersey.

stein himself, as a player, he filled it up, actions and deeds, and more.

    bertie, jinky , murdoch.

    larsson, sutton, hartson

not a list, just some, who got celtic. lived it, became part of us.

but, in the avenue of heroes , i would add some supporters.

they built it, carts and dirt and a big quarry hole.

the people of the calton, led by a priest and their need to survive.

i want a statue to this guy.

I went for one beer tonight in a local bar. My wee cousin and his guitar were the entertainment. He sang this among a list of classisc from bands such as The Smiths and The Doors. A fanatic hour spent in the town that I nearly live in. He is a small rare ray of light in a otherwise unpleasant place.

  10. True story!

In Ireland, when your child starts school, it usual that you,( the parent, nowadays whatever),

report to the Principal’ s Office, and introduce yourself, and give a little info, as to your child’s

background, Family, etc, in otherwise, what you do for a living, etc, just , background material,

so the school has some degree of recognition of Family history.

Imagine if you will, a Father turning up at the Principal’s Office, being welcomed by said

Principal, who then ask’s, What is your name Sir? Oh! People call me the ‘EDGE!.

    H.H.
