Neil Lennon comes into his own on these nights

61

With the first wave there was a mad rush and widespread disappointment.  The second wave washed over everyone with continuing frustration in parts.  By the third wave, panic was replaced by confidence, then, finally, came the news: “Betfred League Cup Semi-Final, tickets now on general sale.”

We went through weeks of pretence that Hibernian would sell tickets to more than just players’ friends and family for their semi-final against Celtic a week on Saturday.  Despite, again, beating Celtic at Easter Road, they know the Treble Treble champions bring their A game to Hampden, where they have won 12 consecutive semis and finals.

I get that the League and the SFA want to be respectful to smaller clubs, but these organisations have a board in order to make the right decisions for their showpiece games.  That means giving fans who want to attend every opportunity to do so, and not locking them out while acres of empty seats go unsold by the eventual lucky losers.

But tonight we can set-aside all of that, forget about Pittodrie on Sunday, and concentrate on facing Lazio in the Europa League tonight.

Celtic are the only team in the group unbeaten after two games and sit a point ahead of Cluj and Lazio at the top of the table.  A win tonight would put them on seven points and make them clear favourites to top the group.

Neil Lennon has as much of the squad available to him as I remember any Celtic manager having for an important game in years.  These nights are where the manager comes into his own, making the group’s top seed feel like Glasgow is a long way from home.

  1. No Frimpong, Shved, Sinclair or N’tcham in Provisional 20 man squad for tonight, a certain Greg Taylor is named. Whether he will make the bench is a different matter but at least we know he is still there & is fit to play.

    Opportunity knocks.

Having seen the influx of footballing talent walking through Parkhead`s gates in the last few months and the performance of some on the field of play , I must confess to a strange optimism about our future prospects as European contenders.

And having equally seen the unclean performing at Tynecastle at the weekend , I am seriously confident that we will scoosh the SPL.

    Come hell or high hun.

Tonight is perhaps not the watershed moment for Europe , but at the very least it may provide a serious indicator as to our credentials as contenders where we really belong .

A wee observation . Hopefully without damning him with the kiss of death .

Young Jeremie reminds me of the wee genius.

    Perhaps that`s his position.

I know in Ausrtlia you will still have access to the MSSM but I am guessing the general negativity towards Celtic in both the MSSM and society in general is somewhat diluted where yo are. The result of this is that you are optimistic. I believe more of us should be but constant, insiduous and blatant propaganda is bound to have an affect. Celtic fans have every right to be full of optimism (In general) but I don`t think that is the case. So, good to hear from a possibly less brainwashed member of our fraternity !

South of Tunis also offers a view of Lazio which is very different from the` Lazio are Italian therefore Lazio must be very good.`which is mainly accepted here ie Scotland and Cqn.

Clancy is the referee for whom I have the least respect. Perhaps strangely, I am quite happy with Madhun and, to a lesser extent, I feel Thompson is reasonable. Colum is just a clown .

Overall, though, the only time I truly feel comfortable with refereeeing honesty is in European games.

  10. thank you pal…

Hi there mate.you were enquiring bout mass footage.i asked birth bout this and this was his reply

?Yes there is some video footage of the mass and it features in the Lion’s Road documentary about the boys in the Hillman Imp. I have seen the film but it hasn’t been released publicly yet.

They also have more footage no doubt which they haven’t used.

I will approach them and ask if any of that can be made available somehow.

I have not heard back from birth since.

    That was last week.

    Hope that helps mate.

HOT SMOKED on 24TH OCTOBER 2019 2:08 PM

From the moment I became aware of my place in the West of Scotland community , I was aware of the divide in that community and how that was reflected in the MSSM.

Paper talk was the phrase used.

The usefulness of CQN is that it has allowed my fellow Celtic supporters to keep me well informed about the reality rather than what the MSSM would pretend the situation to be.

The internet has been a Godsend for this emigrant.

My current optimism is rather related to the games I have seen and the impression that we have signed some real prospects.

Cautious optimism , I should say

    :-)

  13. Macjay

Of course your optimism would be of the cautious variety. One would have to travel much further than Australia to become inured re the negativity surrounding Celtic !

    Am I becoming paranoid?:-))

    Cheerio for now.

Must prepare myself for the 4pm departure of the Arbroath Emerald Express. Time and Sticky wait for no man.

  14. One more point.

I believe we will get AT LEAST a draw from tonight`s game. All things considered, we should see ourselves as being favourites .

  15. Head says : 2 each draw

Heart says : 2-1 win for the Tic

Either way, lets accumulate some more points. And do ourselves justice.

  17. Celtic by 2 clear goals tonight, plenty pace and creativity in the midfield and attack, the crazy hospital ball passing at the back seems to have gone, lets see if the visitors have the stomach for a powerful pacy Celtic team that will play to the end.

I really do hope that your optimism bears fruit. See you soon. Don’t forget to wave to YogiHughes at kick off…!

In the past, when you would be made aware of some key player or other not being fit for for the match, you would think, awe naw, wonder how are we going to cope with sonso missing, we’ll probably get beat, nowadays I’m thinking, GREAT, we’re going to see some new talent, which speaks very well for the recruitment process since BR left us. The 18 year old guy Frimpong is it, what a find – well done guys.

Good point – and for the first time in a while I really felt that when I heard that wee Frimpong was playing at the weekend – real buzz to see some of the new players. I like Bauer – really look forward to wee Mikey getting back fit again – Arzani, if he gets fit will be good to see (I was at Dundee when he had his 15 minutes of fame) – wee Karamoko – Luca Connell – all players I’d be excited to see get some time on the park.

And what a revelation Elhamed has been – and Elyounoussi is really coming on to a game now !!!
