Never step into a great man’s shoes, Nadir

798

Remember Henri Camara?  Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson.  Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable.  No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.

Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic.  Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season.  Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.

Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that.  This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.

I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid.  None of this has come from Celtic.  The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

I’d agree with you it has nothing whatever to do with a Celtic web site but if you use is as a forum to spout off it’s only fair I use the same medium to reply to you.

By all means point out British collusion with whoever and whatever, just don`t stick it on Celtic.

It`s got nothing to do with Celtic.

    That`s your right.

Im not sure why he keeps saying this budget is a ‘new contract to start again’

Contracts are usually offers to accept, not sure where you’d sign to take up this offer! And there seems little choice about this contract

    Mainstream media lie in Greece

Over the last two days Greece’s largest television stations and the journalists who work for them have come under two separate investigations. These investigations, conducted by the Greek judicial system and the competent oversight body, were initiated after the ruthless YES-vote propaganda issued by the stations in advance of last week’s referendum. Now, however, the same people under investigation by the authorities are crying freedom of the press and claiming that their voices are being silenced.

I really don’t want to get into this as I have the joys of decorating a bathroom ahead, however……

Respectfully, it’s not up to you or anyone else to decide what should be expressed by the Celtic support, unless of course you work for Stephen House! :-)

Many Celtic supporters have their roots in Ireland, their families having moved here from as far back as the early 1800’s and in greater numbers from 1847 onwards. Republicanism is a significant part of Irish history and it’s inevitable that some Celtic supporters will then have an affinity with the cause of a 32 county country. Some, though not all of these people, clearly feel that Celtic games are a means of expressing their support.

Now you may not feel this link with Ireland and you may dislike the promotion of Irish Rebublicanism at Celtic matches, as is your right, but the fact remains that there are still thousands of Celtic supporters who do and although you can rightfully disagree, you have no right to deny them what they see as their heritage.

It has something to do with Celtic quite simply because thousands of supporters believe it does.

Police Scotland found the pair in a blue Renault Clio just off the M9 near Stirling on Wednesday.

The force admitted the crash had been reported to them on Sunday morning but had not been followed up.

The beauty of communism and it`s attraction was based on theory.

    The theory was beautiful.

Who could not be attracted by the prospect of a completely egalitarian society.

Each according to his means etc. etc.

All fine and well until you put human nature into the mix.

Human nature is competitive by nature.Nature dictates how we behave.

Society tries to control us,but nature is the ultimate arbiter.

Humanity is competitive .It`s normal. It`s in our genes.

Attempts to “communise” us will always fail.

    Nature will defeat our attempts.

    Sadly.

    We`re not all equal.

    Blame nature.

    A couple of things:-

Without British Imperialism there would have been no war in Ireland. Oppression breeds resistance.

To suggest that the IRA haven’t moved the situation in Ireland towards unification is absolute nonsense. Yes there is some way to go but it’s a hell of a lot more likely than it was in ’69 when Britania’s jackboot came crashing down on Nationalist areas of the 6 counties.

Hamiltontim excellent debate. Playing the ball not the player, way to go and very well expressed. There is a part of the Celtic support who strongly relate to the struggle for freedom in Ireland. Macjay that is undeniable even if others, Jock included, did not. Part of our history mate. The good people of the northern part of Ireland worked out themselves that death and loss on both sides was not a long term answer. Hail hail to a free Ireland.

  24. My friends in Celtic,

Not that it should make the slightest difference; but tomorrow night I will be watching the game with Celtic people who have little in common bar their lifetime support of the team.

Watched a program last week on the Scottish invasion of Anglo Ireland by Edward Bruce, brother of Robert. A bit of bad luck with the weather, a famine and an Island divided into rival kingdoms resulted in failure. What an alternative history that could have been. The Bruce brothers were half Anglo half Gael but strongly connected to the Gael and had big support in Ulster and the highlands. Interesting history that I didn’t know about.
