Never step into a great man’s shoes, Nadir

798

Remember Henri Camara?  Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson.  Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable.  No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.

Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic.  Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season.  Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.

Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that.  This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.

I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid.  None of this has come from Celtic.  The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

I’m happy to move on, I had no great desire to get involved in the first place to be honest but I felt that it was important to point out that Republicanism has a place at Celtic games because clearly thousands believe that it does despite the fact that there are many who would disagree.

That may well have been the case, I genuinely don’t know. However, the link I posted shows that many, even today, would disagree with Jock’s view.

Anyway have a great day both of you and if Ciftci should sign while I’m glossing the skirting, welcome to Paradise son.

Celtic are on the brink of finalising a deal for Nadir Ciftci, but it would appear Ronny Deila already has his sights set on his next attacking target.

The Scottish Premiership champions are reportedly battling with Hull City and a number of MLS clubs for Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz- who most recently played with Levski Sofia in Bulgaria

I love how we’re always “linked” to non-scoring strikers like this guy. A player who has been at a multitude of clubs in his short professional career and has only scored 34 goals in that time!

Hopefully we have a few surprises up our sleeves that catch the SMSM out. I always love that! :D

Edward Bruce was a bit of a mentalist. The Begbie of the operation!

Didn’t have his brother’s guile or strategic wisdom. Battle of Bannockburn was due to Edward, not Robert.

Every time Robert had English forces in set piece battles he’d lost. So instead he spent years of guerrilla warfare and capturing but then dismantling castles and fortifications across Scotland.

By offering the English keeper of Striling Castle a year long truce before he’d have to surrender it to the Scots it created a chivalric challenge that Edward II of England couldn’t ignore.

So a huge English army came North. And even up to the last moment Robert was uncertain as to whether he should fight it or ….. as per usual melt into the hills and wait till it had run out of provisions.

Unusually he chose to fight. And the rest – as they say! – is history.

Post Bannockburn, edwards’s foray into Ireland was supported by Robert. Part quid pro quo for his brother’s support in Scottish campaign? Partly to rid himself of a bull in a china shop? Partly to remove to a new Kingdom a potential threat?

Robert Bruce’s father in law was the Earl of Ulster and he’s likely to have have hidden out on Rathlin Island at the early and lowest point in his campaign. So Ireland was well known to these particular Ayrshire Tims!

    Capitalism is human nature.

    You can`t defeat self interest.

It`s what we were born with.

We might not like it ,but you can`t argue with it.

The unacceptable face of capitalism is the enemy.

    As you have just described.

To clarify- it was Edward Bruce that offered the 1 year truce at Stirling castle.

Robert’s reaction was said to have been the medieval equivalent of DOH!!!!!!

While I agree that some of the signings we are linked are non starters, it remains the case that it is all the press can focus on regarding Scotland’s premier league. It is a form of flattery and it is certainly preferable to not being talked about.

Personally transfer rumours talk bores me rigid, biggest load of pash in the chip shop wrappers, agents, players and churnalists use it for their own ends

Only get interested when player is paraded in a Celtic shirt and most importantly has signed on the dotted line, hopefully he will be a success, time will tell and i will make my own judgement on that when i watch the new signing perform on the hallowed turf in our beautiful hooped jersey HH

HT and Jamesgang the doc pretty much came to the same conclusions about Edward but was not convinced that the later views distancing the brothers was anywhere near true. The timings of their mutual campaigns and collisions did evidence a strong bond between the brothers and a plan rather than a split. Their father in law fought against them as they were allied to the local Gaels if I read correctly. Almost succeeded but no cigar was the conclusion. Interesting stuff alright. Hail hail

‘Police Aware’ tape is usually placed around crashed/dumped vehicles once they have inspected the scene.

Obviously there was none around this vehicle.

That means that for three days, police vehicles drove past it without feeling the need to investigate, prior knowledge or not. Bloody shameful.
