New, social, CQN, Elvis is dead!

1157

And we’re back!  What a two days of systems nightmare.  We went down at 7pm on Thursday.  No conclusive information on why, we have had traffic volume related outages before, but this was on a more serious and persistent basis. We had to move the database to a new location and restore from backup to recover, we lost a few days articles. Better not speak to me about Fasthosts for a while.

We got access to the databases this morning and took the opportunity to upgrade facilities in the background.  We’re on a new incarnation of WordPress and now have Facebook and Twitter integration.  Good news is you can link your Celtic Quick News account with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and share information from CQN to your social network timeline.

To do so:
Login to Celtic Quick News.
Cick on your name at the top of the Comments box to access your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to access the Facebook and Twitter links.
Update your profile.

You will then see a Share link beside your comments.

Should we be Celtic Slow News for today?  Here it is:

Rennes 1-1 Celtic.
Hugely important second half performance and Joe Ledley goal.
Your favourite billionaire is getting divorced and has claimed he has no money!  Oh dear.
One year on, the SFA are still smoking out religiously offensive correspondents!
The Berlin Wall fell and I hear Elvis is dead.

Have a try at the Facebook and Twitter links and let me know what you think of it.  I’m off for a break but will catch up later.

Most importantly, there is a Celtic fan called Andrew who will be walking about Belfast in a daze this weekend.  If you see him, but him a beer.

  1. If Rangers need to apply for Scottish League membership again then there will be HUGE pressure brought to bear on all the clubs in Scotland to simply let them waltz back into the top division.

This is despite such an outcome clearly not being in the interests of the game in Scotland.

For example, an enlightened SPL club owner would suddenly see his club’s chances of honours and European places immensely increased by the absence of the Huns. We would immediately see a more competitive, better balanced league, like that which existed in the first half of the 1980s, during which time Celtic battled Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, and Hearts for the league titles.

But sadly most SPL clubs are not run by enlightened people. They are run by people of narrow vision, who would, I fear, be unable to see beyond the loss of 10,000 Huns turning up at their grounds each year.

This, combined with undoubted pressure from the SFA and maybe even the Scottish Government, would lead to a swift change in the rules and ease the way for the Huns to re-enter the top flight.

I suspect even Celtic may acquiesce…

    Voted.

Not a chance in hell should they be allowed to just walk in as if nothing had happened.

If they are found guilty and have to pay up the first step is administration and if they canny pay then it is liquidation and Rangers 2012 can start in division 3 and play for 4 years in the wilderness.

I guarantee this though, should they get the ultimate sanction and drop down, watch the SFA, SFL and the SPL reconstruct leagues in jig time. We’ll get 2 leagues of 20 in no time and then they’ll claim the product is no good and it will go back to 10 or 12 in the SPL.

We’ve seen the protectionism in action with the season of the honest mistake, well we ain’t seen nothing yet if the ultimate sanction comes to fruition.

My own feeling is that they will enter administration take their 10 point hit, lose a few employees and players and Whyte will take his money and run as soon as he can. It is after all his Modus operandi as he has a reputation as an asset stripper.

If they are found to have done something illegal I will go one step further – every trophy they won while operating this scheme should be stripped from them and the opposition (Celtic or whoever) should be awarded those titles and cups.

Now that is a hell of a list.

    Advocaat’s haul

2 league titles – 2 titles to Celtic

1 league cup – St Johnstone as default winners

2 Scottish cups – 1 to Celtic, 1 to Aberdeen

    McLeish’s winnings with Advocaat’s 100M quid team

1 league title before the downsizing took place – goes to Celtic

2 league cups – 1 to Celtic, 1 to Ayr United

2 Scottish cups – 1 to Celtic, 1 to Dundee

If this scheme was operated even after the downsizing well McLeish’s entire trophy haul should be binned and awarded to Celtic, Ayr United and Motherwell.

And that is before you talk about how much debt the accrued to get Smith to win his titles.

No hell mend them and none of us should be a party to helping them make money or restore their alleged glory.

  9. When would be an appropriate time to delete this Craig Whyte BBC documentary?

Father in Laws now visited four times since it was broadcast and each time ive managed to get it onto the telly just before he gets into the house.

Strangely enough he never stayed for his breakfast this am

Am I taking it just a wee bit too far?

  10. There was a story (Scotsman?) couple of days ago saying that Aberdeen will try to ‘out-muscle’ us today. Take it that means they will try and kick us off the park. Pa Broon is such a nice man.

Conditions might suit them if weather anything like it is here, about 120miles south. Strength and discipline required from likes of Vic and Kayal.

Not that I’m worried. Got 2 quid on Stokes hat-trick.

My flatmate is a rabid hun,and hasn’t stopped moaning about THAT doco being on the telly all the time.

“FS,you surely only need to watch it once!”

Eventually,I told him that I intend to watch it again and again untl I can finally see it all without some choob talking through it.

That shut him up,but sadly for him,not for the full thirty minutes.

With a huge sigh masking an equally huge smirk,I pressed the restart option……

  14. Sincere condolences to hamiltontim for his sad loss.

Anyone who watched the BBC prog about the RBS- “The Bank That Ran Out of Money” could not escape the parallels between Fred Goodwin and Minty- 2 Edinburgh establishment men who a few years ago could do no wrong, now 2 men who because of their arrogance are now in disgrace.

Also the contrast from the earlier RBS Board presentation to analysts- the body langauge, the confidence, arrogance exuding from Goodwin to the final ones after he had been causght out, the shiftiness, stuttering, fidgeting- he just reminded me of Whyte.

  15. Hamiltontim,

Sorry to hear about the very sad news of your Dads passing away. To be thinking of others on this forum at such a difficult moment says so much about you m8, your old man certainly instilled tremendous values in your good self. God Bless.

I hope Celtic can build on Thursdays result and although they looked a team short on confidence they really played their hearts out to achieve the result. Same effort today and we will do very well.

I’ll second that. I e-mailed Hamiltontim in the wee hours and he sent me one back, saying a little about his dad. His dad did a good job.
