While I was busy telling one of my first bosses how much money we were going to make in a year or two, he made a comment which has remained with me since, “If you don’t make some sales next month, we’ll not be around to find out if you’re right.”
Plans for 2022 don’t mean a fart to a company which is haemorrhaging cash, billionaire funders, nomads and auditors, all the consequence of a two year war of attrition as newco Rangers tried to fight off an insurrection.
There are literally thousands of metrics you can use to compare the prospects of football clubs but let me draw your eye to a couple, which will give you real insight into the future.
Last season Celtic had 475 “full time equivalents” in employment, 318 people in non-football roles and a further 157 in football operations (players, coaches etc.). If the average pay of those 318 non-football full-time staff was £25k (I doubt it’s this low), their combined wage bill would be just below £8m. Celtic’s total annual wage bill was £37.766m, total operating expenses were £59.885m.
If you want to win the Scottish Premiership, this is what you’re competing against.
Newco Rangers announced operating expenses (before amortisation) of £15.684m for the six months to 31 December, which included £6.7m wages, covering both football and non-football staff. If the figures for the second half of the year are consistent with the first that would give them around £31m income and a £13.4m spend wages. Income is around half Celtic’s expenses and wages a fraction of Celtic’s
What newco need is tens of millions of pounds of investor cash, the £50m Dave King spoke about ‘when in opposition’ is not an overestimate.
Anything they say before “Here is the £50m investment we need” is there to take attention away from the fact that they haven’t said “Here is the £50m investment we need”. When they say that, they’re in the game, until then, they’re cannon fodder. When they stop talking about the £50m needed, they know it’s not coming.

The word ‘turnaround’ would’ve helped there.

Tom McLaughlin,
As someone who can count on one hand the numbers of times I have watched Celtic in other parts of the ground (and I can remember them well), I found the Hayshed- as I was raised calling it- the best place to be.Why did you detest it?
I know it attracted a different kind of supporter in the last few years of its existence but it was for most of the time, a great place, imo.

Just got cup semi tickets online. Looks like Celtic are getting East stand, North stand, half of the West stand and half of the South Stand.
Also showing about 80% sold out (unless they aren’t selling tickets for some areas until others are full)

Listening to the clyde phone in on podcast from Monday night, 2 huns who sound as if they know what there talking about regaurding nomads and finance and seem concerned about what’s happening are kind of dismissed by BFDJ and the panel but a clown who sounds as if he hasn’t got 2 brain cells shouting about being back at the top in 2 years because ‘ we just will be ‘ is givin encouragement by BFDJ.
The huns just don’t want to see the truth, the ‘ everything will be ok because it will be ‘ seems to be fine with the majority no wonder there a easy target for the conmen HH

I remember Billy Connolly talking about Celtic fans that season, team a goal down, looking at their watches, “5 minutes tae go, plenty time!!”.
And all finished off true to form with those late Macca Cup Final goals.

in that case I hope he breaks the record….

If following Celtic home and away, and socialising with Celtic supporters who do the same, constitutes being in a clique in your mind, then I am guilty. A clique that numbers thousands is some clique btw.
Paranoia is unpleasant, I know.

Bada Bing!
You’re sly question mark at the end of “25 point deduction?” made me think you were speculating, not breaking the news, and, as ever, I couldn’t help but get involved in a Sevco ‘same club’ debate!!
Not that there is any debate!
At least I spotted the Lafferty one, if I’d fallen for that too it would’ve been a while before posting for me!
Mea Culpa,
Excellent, really enjoyed that.

Parkheadcumsalford –
My dislike of the Jungle is probably psychological.
First of all, I was fed up being pissed on and standing in the stuff.
Then, when I was only 17, a man in front of me turned round and punched me on the face, accusing me of pissing on him. I was standing there with my arms folded and my nose just exploded. He didn’t even apologise.
So maybe I am just a little bit biased.
Oh and KevJ telling anyone to get a life. My God, the ultimate insult :-)
G67-South Stand upper not open for ICT Semi final
Hello again all you young rebels.
Our great Celtic cruise saw us in Darwin today what a
stunning part of the world but my god it was so hot so
much that we had to look for our ubiquitous Irish pub as
soon as we got off the ship, didn’t take us long to see the
first of many guinness providers just up from the harbour
and it was a real Irish pub, tricolour on the ceiling,Tipperary
and Cork signpost which must have come over on the first
ship and a lovely Dublin lass behind the bar, what more
could an auld Celt need? maybe a Cqn er to talk to and then
enter Gerry a local tim who came down to say hello during
his work lunch break.
He told us he was a non poster but avid lurker on our blog
and didn’t want Darwin to be the place where we never met
any Celts but he was too late as a couple of lhads shouted
out to us on the jetty as we disembarked, what a club eh?
So it’s set sail to Broome tomorrow is there any Cqn ers there?
Couldn’t be could there?
Lets see.

Did the bored pee in your breakfast this morning, fellow eejit…..?
I read Greenpinta’s rosy view on all things Celtic earlier with a mixture of despair and mirth. My god we really do have the memory of a goldfish dont we. The view that we cant compete with Burnley now etched on the brain and used as an excuse not to compete at all.
But perhaps most stunning of all was this wee cracker from Greenpinta….
“One thing we have as a starting advantage over the vast majority of teams is the empathy of our fans to the club”
Really? Do we indeed?
Our club has taken a full part in the wanton corruption surrounding scottish football. From being party to drawing up the 5 way agreement to not supporting res 12, to allowing Ogilvie elected unoppossed. Oh we love to talk about the demise of the huns but here we are in scotland propping them up, The country outlawing talk of liquidation and outlawing words that arent convenient. And Celtic? They say and do nothing?
Why? For money. For the love of money. PL tells us that the demise of the huns cost us 10M – based on? Vapour. Made up figures, worst case scenarios etc etc. DD? He crows at how great the huns are and how much he wants them back.
And the clubs views on its own supporters. Mere turnstyle fodder. They think us fools and degenerates and they treat us accordingly. They want you to be the victims and to wallow in it, to wallow in sectarianism and racism. Why? For money. For the love of money.
You want more evidence? How about the OB act. Sure they make the odd platitude about not liking it but they have done precisely nothing about it. Worse than that they provided all your details (if you have a SB) to the police, lied about it to us then admitted it. Thats so supporters can be dawn raided for singing a song you can legally buy. They also lied to us about stadium safety certificates. Oh and of course banning celtic supporters en mass after Motherwell, with no evidence of wrongdoing etc. Or how about playing to the MSM’s sectarianism at every press conference by telling us that Irish Republicanism is wrong? Or standing by while the MSM declare Irish Tricolours and the Irish National Anthem as offensive and sectarian.
So Greenpinta empathy of our fans to the club? Really? I think we have empathy with one another but the club has long since abandoned us to our fate. Its good for business after all.
BT/Tom McG
Thanks for that info earlier. With St Mirren, Dundee away and semi final tickets to be paid this week it’ll probably be East Stand for us.
Happy 67th birthday to the great Jimmy Cliff.
