No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

  6. Geordie Munro:

correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Neil Lennon not recently say Celtic were capable of paying 6 Million for a player?

I think if we were a wee bit more astute about our spending we could probably raise that 6 by at least 50%, if you double-double dared us.

That’s not to say any player’s future is pre-destined by the price tag on his shirt.

Well unless Peter Lawwell has over 100 log-in names on here, and I am not dismissing that idea completely out of hand, then posters I have met and who actually exist in real life have been responsible for many of them. Of course, I do not know about all of the rumours, but a goodly few I can account for.

its a great question without an easy answer

i was surprised when i went to that friendly in dublin last august just how outnumbered we were in the ground by thon scousers

so, like everywhere else on the planet, ireland is EPL daft

but the few thousand that travel to games every week and who buy the merchandise are every bit as important to the ethos and soul of the club as they are to the finances

and i reckon DD holds the euros from ireland in very high regard

I don’t think that 5m pound player skirmish played out in the press can be overlooked in the scheme of things as far as NL is concerned. That was when I made up my mind that NL was for the offski. Especially when PL came out to qualify the statement.

I think it is an integral part of Celtic and the C.E remit to be economical with the truth with regards to the outside world. One of the main problems with the club is that they also behave that way with their employees.

E.g I would love to be in the room when Peter Lawwell is lecturing Kris Commons agent about buying into our fiscal strategy. He will either be desperate to punt him to another club or hope that he does not expect a pay rise. Football strategy is stagnant.

    HH

  13. Oh and I would be okay with Roy Keane getting the nod. Neil may have brought back the thunder but I have a sneaky that Mr. Keane would add the lightning.

  14. kitalba

Neil did say that we could spend £6m if the player was worth it. It sounded as though he was saying we had the money but did not have the strategy to do so, though he was tempted by Snodgrass if the price was to drop.

There has only been one player in recent times who would have justified the differential of a salary with the rest of the squad, and that was Henrik. Even then, whatever salary Henrik was on remained a target for the group who were nearest to him in worth and ability (Sutton, Lennon, Hartson, Lambert and Petrov) and those in the group below them (Mjallby, McNamara, Agathe etc;) wanted a hike as they aged with the team too. Eventually, a wage bill becomes onerous because of the effects of aging in a retained squad. Thus, the “downsizing” began.

I cannot think of too many teams who pursue a strategy of one (or two) star signings supplemented by journeymen. Team Spirit is better served by closer tiers of pay though I am still glad we retained Henrik for longer when he became a big star with us. He was not the biggest paid player when he joined us though, nor the largest transfer fee. And Snodgrass is unlikely to be a new Henrik.

    Off oot in 10 minutes.

The evolutionary paths diverged when Hibs adopted the approach you allude to.

We took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.

Agreed and that’s why operation save the Old Firm is so important. I have been genuinely surprised at the lack of awareness from Irish Celtic fans who want their “we are the Romans we hate the Christians” ampitheatre fix of hate four times a year back ASAP over modernising Scottish football and society. I suppose thr bottom line is that they dont give a flying f**k about Scottish society’s woes.

    ———-

well are you talking about the club or the fans?

the fans fly the tricolour at the games but its not as if the players walk onto the pitch through a row of tricolours.

so the club play some tunes with an irish hint to them, i would have no issues if they played a few corries numbers as well :-)

and if there were more saltires or lion rampants then no problems but i wouldnt agree with any directive to stop fans bringing tricolours or for the club to remove it from the top of the north stand
