No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

    Jesus Christ NO, just no!

I paddy – hadn’t seen odds on the Big JC! Thought the Holy Father was the closest we’d got to in terms of celestial manager old experience

can you not just say FFS.this is a football club we are talking about here not the end of the world.

I try not to get involved because whatever will be will be, but although a wee bit tedious it is the most immediately concerning issues regards our club at the moment. Go to the pub and the conversation will no doubt turn to who’ll be the next Celtic manager at some stage.

Whoever it is, I just want them to put a footballing playing team on the field.

I miss Tommy Burns in so many ways.

gary67- Keane will know how PL operates, he won’t put up with him playing Football Manager 2014, along with John Park. DD would need to change and let the manager be his own man. That may be an expensive option DD won’t want to do. If he does change the set up, it could be the reason JP possibly moving to Norwich.

    An expensive option for DD.

It would be like exposing aa vampire to a cross.

Well, well a fleg debate but with a twist…

CELTIC…an Irish club founded in Scotland by Irishmen resident in their adopted home town city…Glasgow.

We are not an Irish club as per the rules of football

Celtic have never been affiliated to any Irish association, or had a home base in Ireland

  6. In Roy Keanes defence….what positives could he bring?

    1) Guaranteed there’d be no slackers in the team

    2) There’d be no one standing still on the park cos they didn’t have the ball…even the keeper

    3) European experience…if only as a player

    4) Good contacts

    5) Would take ABSOLUTELY no bull shit from ANYONE….MSM included

  7. !!bada bing!!

Likewise Moyes, who I think in DD’s number one choice. Can’t see Park being at CP much longer.

  8. Zbyszek:

I have a Polish friend here in Australia, a teetotal friend. He had to do national service in the Polish army back in the 70/80’s. He was a tank driver. He was telling me that often they never got fed but they were given an allowance to go feed themselves. He told me nobody ever bought food with their allowance, they all bought vodka. He told me that it got so cold that without the alcohol in their system to negate the cold they just could not function. He told me about some who touched the tanks without gloves on.

He hates alcohol now but loves the sun.

  9. I don’t want Keane. He has never shown anything but a total arrogance, imo. Great players, which he was, again imo, seldom make for great managers and he hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory at Sunderland or Ipswich. Surely we can better……

  10. !!Bada Bing!! on

quonno-G67- Seems to me if DD does want a big name like Moyes or Keane, PL will have to take a step back and let the manager manage, which is what I’ve wanted for a long time, but not with Keane to be honest :(,

  11. At the Fiorentina-Celtic Big Cup quarter final in Firenze in 1970. Celtic fans were in a low-level stand, being spat upon (and worse) by Fiorentina fans above us. Teams came out and a band played the national anthems. It’s the only time I’ve seen a group of Celtic fans belt out GSTQ, but we had to do something to show we were there!

    Regrets,I’vehadafewCSC

  12. parkheadcumsalford

Carlo Anceloti, Pep Guardiola, Diego Simeone, 3 of the 4 CL semi finalist managers, all great players

  13. I would think that as Paul says Celtic are talking to a number of candidates. Some of those will be people in the club’s opinion would make prospective Celtic managers/head coaches. Celtic will probably explain what the job entails. How they are expected to work within “the system”. If said individual is agreeable to those terms then they make it onto clubs preferred candidate shortlist. Celtic will list in order of preference and offer job in this order until they get a new manager/head coach. Makes sense to me. This is the modern game and we are at the forefront. We live within our means. Others in the uk are starting to catch up with what we started 5-6 years ago. Liverpool being the prime uk example.

No 5 is the imperative no matter who the manager is – MON knew that and was the better of MSM much to their inner rage, Keane is possibly the only candidate with the balls to fight the anti-Celtic agenda in Scotland

Doesn’t really square with his abysmal managerial record

‘fraid so. Desperate circumstances require desperate measures.

  19. Kitalba

The Saltire has been flying at Celtic Park for as long as I have been supporting Celtic. And I am not talking about the Scottish version which used to fly above the old Jungle, and is now to be seen above the “new” Stand, I am talking about our versions of it, white with green cross, or one currently available in the Superstore, green with white cross, which is my own favourite. The official Celtic one usually has “Champions” on it somewhere, looking forward to seeing that one raised in August. Again!

  20. I have doubts on Roy Keane fitting our player development model.

That means handling guys learning their trade, being patient with the standard Keane had for himself and expected of others.

Then there are the older guys who Keane might expect more from and clash with.

Someone suggested earlier Celtic might want to change the model to cater for Keane ‘ s personality but the model has brought consistent success and that means CL group qualification for the next 3 years at least.

Will Keane bring that or put it at risk?

Unless there are indicators that he has mellowed and is ready to power down his forcefulness with players – quite happy if he fights his and their corner with Board – I’d not be upset if he was not the guy but would be ok giving him the chance subject to knowing he appreciated what he was getting into.

We needed a scrapper when Lennon was appointed, not sure that is as high on the requirements list now.

Guys following Keane ‘ s career more than I will no doubt comment.

  25. Celtic: Roy Keane would be ‘good man’ for job, says Charlie Mulgrew

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane would be a “good man” to succeed Neil Lennon at Celtic, according to defender Charlie Mulgrew.

Keane, now number two to Martin O’Neill with the Irish national side, is among a host of names linked with the Scottish Premiership club’s vacancy.

“I’m sure he’d be a good man for the job,” Celtic’s Mulgrew said.

“As a player, I think the club needs a big character and he definitely fits the bill.”

As a player, I think the club needs a big character and he definitely fits the bill

    Charlie Mulgrew

    Celtic defender

Since ending his playing career at Celtic after a short spell at the club in 2006, former Manchester United midfielder Keane has had management experience with Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

Lennon left Celtic after winning his third straight league title and Keane, 42, is among those linked with succeeding him at Celtic Park.

Mulgrew said it was important Celtic made the right appointment ahead of the upcoming European qualifiers when the club will seek to secure Champions League football.

“He’s a strong character and probably the type of guy that would be good for the job,” he said.

“Of course, we want a manager as soon as possible because it gets us prepared for the Champions League qualifiers.

“But I’m sure the club will take its time to get the right man.

“As long as it’s a big character. I’m sure the club will look into it and find the right man for the job.”

  26. Celtic Mac:

So too flies the Union Jack ever since I started going to the games back in the early sixties.

A wee flag question, which club gifted Celtic the Basque flag that used to fly atop the west jungle?

  27. I would imagine that Roy Keane is just today’s red herring and tomorrow will be someone else’s turn.

If it does turn out to be him, surely it’s in order for Kojo to keep posting under ‘The Kojo’? :-)

  28. If Roy Keane gets the gig does that mean we will finally sign Kevin Doyle?!
