Nomme Kalju on remarkable run of tight games

121

Nomme Kalju are 20 games into the Estonian league campaign, which they were in contention to retain until recently.  Their unexpected win in Macedonia in the last round of Champions League qualification was the only victory in their last five outings, a run of results which sees them sitting 12 points off the pace domestically.

One of the remarkable aspects of their results is their inability to win or lose games convincingly.  In the last three months, 18 or their 19 games have been settled by a single goal, or drawn.  Their three cup games in that period all went to extra time.

The overwhelming takeaway from reading their form is that this team are involved in tight battles for 90 minutes in virtually every game.  Even the last game they lost by more than a single goal, a 0-3 defeat, was level on 81 minutes.

I expect Celtic to get the better of proceedings tonight, but we need to finish the game strongly.  Nomme will be fitter than we are and used to playing to the final whistle.

Something doesn’t sound right using Rupert the Bear for a Celtic player

Unless it’s that wee green teddy on sports direct

A long as he makes light of perceived grievances and doesn’t hold Celtic employees in the “undying contempt ” you do 😀

Yes, right enough you must have hit a bad one that day when you used those exact words about the board and Mikael Lustig’s alleged ‘treatment’.

    Enjoy the match 😀

Welcome to Celtic Hatem Abd Elhamed. 5 appearances at right back surely means this is CB cover?

  10. If he has only played 5 games at right back, watching the videos of him on youtube he was brilliant in every one of those games

    B-)

Just saw that Barca had turnover of €990 million for 2018-19 and after tax profit of €4.5 million. The mind boggles.

  14. Hatem Abd Elhamed (may his tribe increase!)

Was arrested one night for Breach of the peace,

The big Glasgow Polis, who arrested him, said,

“You play for that team that fills me with dreads,

So am writing your name in our big book of Neds”

Exceeding Fenianism had made Elhamed bold,

And so the big Glesga Polis he cheekily told,

“How spellest it thou?”—The Polis raised his head,

And with a look of confusion t’wards Hatem he strolled,

Saying “spell it out in full for me.”

Cos the pass mark for Polis is an IQ of 3

Replied Hatem, “I’ll spell it out clear and slow,

With Metaphors so you’ll learn it and know,

It’s Hat as in the hat-trick of titles we’ve won

In the past 3 seasons where we skelped the hun.”

“It’s ’em as in **** ’em

    Which surely we’ve done.

    Abd, as in Abdomen,

for we’ve stomach and you’ve none.

    El’s where you’re headed for

    instead of for Hame.

And D stands for dunce for you’ve surely no brain.”

The Polis tried writing it but everything vanished. Though the next night

he awoke with a great blinding light,

Which showed him the names whom love of God had blessed,

And lo! Hatem and Celtic’s name led all the rest.

  15. Will be in Portimao for the game if anyone knows of a good pub to watch the game?

Don’t think i said ‘undying’, but it was still too far.

    Enjoy the match too!

  17. Ivehadtochangemymind: read the Informer but can’t remember much about it. A collection of his short stories, as Gaeilge, called ‘Dúil’ used to be on the Leaving Certificate course. My favourite from that collection was Bás na Bó (Death of the Cow).

Most reviewers of that story didn’t get the writer’s empathy with the cow on the death of its calf. Instead they concentrated on the farmer’s dilemma of disposing of the stillborn calf’s body.

CELTIC: Bain; Simunovic, Bitton, Ajer; Brown, Forrest, Christie, McGregor, Bolingoli; Griffiths, Edouard.

Subs: Gordon, Jullien, Sinclair, Hayes, Morgan, Johnston, Ntcham

  19. Eirsport usually cover Celtic’s European games but not to-night due to the club media blackout and the slow ticket sales. Not surprising seeing as this peak holiday time and EUFA’s insistance on making clubs engage in summer football and these marathon qualifiers. Eirsport are covering the Dundalk v our old friends Quarabag which I’ll watch while keeping an eye on CQN for Celtic updates.

The previous round against Sarajevo was definitely banana skin territory with the dreadful weather and the big raucous crowd on their feet cheering every kick of the ball by the Bosnian players and scoring that first goal. Good result by our lads in the end.

The Estonians will be fit just like Rosenborg were last summer although not of the same calibre as the Norwegians so Celtic get the job done to-night.

looking forward to seeing all these new signings in the weeks ahead. Bayo, Shevd, Anzani, the Frenchman, the Israeli and many more.

  20. AlbertKiddCSC: I put out an enquiry for you but match is only being shown on Celtic TV but not in Ireland so unless you have access to an IPTV account it looks like you’ll have to depend on a dodgy stream.

Sorry I can’t give you better news. Hope the sunny south east is living up to its reputation.

I’ll check it out Almore – might be able cope with short story gaeilge!
