Ntcham and Christie indicate direction of travel at Celtic

201

In the dark days of late August, with various players looking for an exit from the club, some at Celtic Park concluded that for all the success of our strategy to scout young European youth internationals who were still below radar, none of them would sign an extended contract after their credentials were established at Celtic.  This assessment included Olivier Ntcham.

The club set its face to stone regarding Moussa Dembele but Brendan Rodgers was so incensed by the player on deadline day that he was told to empty his locker.  Dedryck Boyata was denied a move to England, but while the Belgium international remains in the final year of his contract, Olivier surprised me by signing a new four-year deal.  Something has changed.

While there is nothing inherently wrong in selling players for large transfer fees, selling too many, too quickly, puts pressure on clubs, who will struggle to recruit appropriately experienced replacements to order.

It is good news that Olivier extended his stay.  It confirms he is happy at Celtic, that we can afford competitive wages, and that he has faith in the manager and direction of travel at the club.  His continuing stay will also encourage others to come to Glasgow.

Ryan Christie, who signed a new contract yesterday, has every bit as much potential as Olivier.  He has had the most thrilling three weeks of his career.  A year ago, I was told by someone inside Celtic Park he had the potential to go far, which I dismissed on the spot.  It took patience and hard work, but he got there.

  2. Some things are unexplainable…(for a wee while at least)…UFO sightings in Ireland…and that last post of mine…def time for bed and horlicks…

  3. I think the aliens who were spotted in Ireland were arriving for the CQN Hoot…however, when they were informed of bmcuw’s red card from the blog, they returned in protest…I blame Peter Lawwell…

  4. WeeBobbyCollins, Beautiful, wish I had been there. I love Orthodox choirs, but that is the first time I have heard a girl singing the lead part. They are well known for the very deep voices of their bass singers.

I looked the Psalm 53 up in my book beside me. It says “For the Director of music…. a muskil of David.”

Keep the Jungle rebel flag flying high on thee oul Jungle roof. √

    Magical.

A united Ireland, after all of those decades, standing in the Parkheid Jungle, singing, praying, that somehow, anyhow, that Brittania’s evil empire would be brought to it’s knee’s, and the grand oul, peaceful, salt of the earth folk’s from the emerald isle, would be, free, equal, and be able to live in peace, never for a minute did I think that, were all of that to happen, that the remaining bigots who would find it impossible to reconcile with the past, would be likely to leave the emerald isle, and bring their defeated bigotry over here. Watch were big Arlene head’s to, like the pied piper……..tic toc.

  7. News from the north today, suggests that over the hill, 72 times capped Swedish defender, ole PC “legs have gone” Mikael Lustig is about to extend his period as official Celtic Escaped Goat until at least 2020.

The almost geriatric, nearly 32 year old liability, who averages just over 40 games a season for Celtic, explains, “ Younger guys like Jack Hendry are not yet ready to assume the crucial team role of Escaped Goat”!

“ They will have to learn their craft just I had to, while appearing in two European Championships and one World Cup finals”.

“ There will be plenty of time for them yet”.

It is believed that the leaking of this news has been timed to coincide with the quiet, international break so as provide negative CQN posters with something to discuss as the Champions go top of the league.

  8. “Cheap nomark” ?

Insulting someone who has no right of reply seems pretty cheap to me.

You do yourself no favours with comments like that.

FWIW, I know who’s company I’d rather keep. And the same goes for many others, I’m sure.

Time you acted like a grown up, Kev.

So Josh Dumbass thinks Sevco would have won the league if they beat us in the 3-2 game last year, oh Ma sides, whilst laighing is good for you, too much is hurting Ma sides..???

Keep feeding the fire Dumbass, it’s the hope and belief that kills you all…

  10. Morning all.

BMCUW,.asked for this to be put on. He’s initially talking about the hoot.

I genuinely have no idea why he was red carded. Hopefully the mods allow this post.

Pity I can’t go onto CQN to thank everyone involved-as I usually do-but as you know,my red card was richly deserved

While I’m grateful for the support shown over the last few days-and,oh,I am very grateful indeed-I don’t think it should continue. It’s a done deal, tough but there you go

It would save some considerable grief if someone was kind enough to c&p this onto CQN to just say-Thanks,folks,but let’s just let it go.

Thanks for puting my wee story up.

    Appreciated.

My wife said the next time I do one, I’ve to let her proof read it first, so that’s me told. :-)

    Hail Hail

  12. Jimmynotpaul, just read your article about love street 86 over on Sentinnellcelts.

    A great read.

I too was not going to the game as a 20 year old and out on trials with a few senior clubs I was to play for my under 21 team, my game was cancelled early doors, due to the rain. My mate Stephen who was Jack McGinns nephew got me a ticket and off we all went, the rest is a blur.

My football career was ended a week or so later when, in a small backwater Lanarkshire village playing a Scottish cup tie, an opponent snapped my leg… Souness Esk stamp on my shin.

I did play some part time and amateur after that but I liked, drink, women and the Celtic too much and my appetite to play at higher level had diminished.. Not because of the tackle itself, as I played in some rough pub games on a Sunday and junior games on a Saturday, my appetite for the training 5 or 6 days a week was gone.

  13. David 66.

It’s so true, I don’t think people appreciate how dangerous an injury can be for a young player, not because of the recovery from it, because ,like you, so many start to enjoy life a little , whilst injured ,and then find it difficult to give up, wine, woman and song.

    Hail Hail

Well, no-one can accuse webawbabbity of being a figment of your imagination.

However, you are on record as admitting that you have used many aliases on here and have even responded to some of them as KevJ. Invariably, these alter egos were saying something in support of yourself or repeating the points you just had.

So the best that can be said of your reputation is that you did not s**g this particular sheep.

    Thank you.

    I enjoyed it.

  16. Oh my word, SFTB I never heard that Sheep analogy before. I’m going to be smiling to myself all day.

  17. I’m looking for a spare for the Hamilton away game for an elderly pal of mine. He’s going over for the AGM and will be staying in Scotland until the weekend. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

  18. Morning Almore, hope you get sorted with a ticket. A question for you Alan and also WITS with the leaking of the new border between uk and Eire now destined to be effectively a line down the middle of the Irish Sea is there a possibility that the Dail might have more powers over the governance of the 6 counties than westminister.

From what has been said about the draft agreement deal to govt advisers the 6 counties would become a seperate state to protect eu rules and regulations and seamless trade with the south………or am i reading that wrong and interpreting something which is not there.

I see the big arlene on the early flight to london to speak to may and that big daftie boris shouting about loosing the union with the north……..are we getting a semi united Ireland as a result of the brexit vote or is it all a softening up excercise……for something else.

  19. Hunderbirds are Gone on

BBC carrying a report today that all twenty Premier League clubs are being asked to make a £250,000 contribution, so that outgoing Chief Executive Richard Scudamore can be given a £5m “farewell gift”. The clubs have already been asked if they will agree to the Chelsea Chairman’s request, and all are expected to say yes.

Scudamore is reportedly paid £2.5m a year, and has worked 19 years with the Premier League.

This report is the perfect metaphor for the modern disconnect of the people’s game from it’s traditional working class roots… imho.

    ?⚽️

  20. Hunderbirds- read that about Scudamore, truly disgusting, can see fans of a few EPL clubs turning on them

  21. Scudmorehunsgate is a slap in the face to all fans…we know it’s been going on for years but now they are becoming truly reckless in their arrogance…

  22. I don’t know the story of wee Aiden…but if some wee boy has had a tough time and is now getting better, then I join in with the others and say…well done wee man!…
