Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

I’m a Sammi fan …unfortunately there are some within the Celtic support who don’t appreciate good players

Sammi will go with my blessing ….I hope he stays ….couldn’t criticise him for leaving tho

Yeah fantastic fans the Manchester United guys. The memory of their FTP songs (sung by hundreds) at Celtic Park still resonates. Great group really.

    A ridiculous comparison

No fan of Swalex ….better to compare him to Walturd …come on

  8. Money isn’t Sammi’s priority.

Sammi will not leave for a mid class EPL.

Athletico Madrid can make the difference.

Any way, he is in a big dilemma, in a difficult decicion.

Shame Sunderland let a goal in.

Still I give Moyes till the end of the season at best and then he’ll be sacked.

  10. Big Cup Winners….

Was at Old Trafford a few years back when Liverpool battered them 4-1.

Their songbook about Hillsborough that day was truly disgusting.

Takes a lot to shock me but that day was frightening.

  11. Iabis, agreed, he will go to a CL team or he will stay.

He plays for glory and medals, he has said as much, he could have left before for money, but stayed to win medals.

I do not follow your logic.

The Board’s stance was THEY thought the Resolution unnecessary and would vote against it yet THEY came up with a way not to dismiss it out right.

Not using their voting power suggests that at the very least they were as interested in getting at the truth as we were.

If you start from the default premise that the Board cannot be trusted then you would naturally think that they were acting in an untrustworthy fashion and so setting a trap.

But from what I have seen the default position of mistrust will face a challenge as the process unfolds.

Do not forget it is not just those who signed the Resolution that are interested but all shareholders whom ultimately will have to be satisfied and dropping this is not an option, something that I understand was safeguarded against in the minutes of the AGM.

It will all come out in the end and you may well be right, but it will not be the requisitioners who were trapped but all shareholders if an arrangement minuted at an AGM is then ignored.

You can’t really take anything away from Ferguson. He built highly successful teams at Aberdeen and produced several winning versions in Manchester colours too.

The guy hates losing and I remember him after our 1-0 victory in the CL. He was raging, cursing at himself. As a football supporter the drive and desire is what you want from the leader.

I wish he had been Celtic’s manager and I remember the rumour circulating that he was offered the Celtic job when his coat was on a shaky peg at United. Winning the FA cup saw that come to nought.

  14. SAF greatest achievement in football ,was winning the EPL last season with that squad of players.

Am sure the Liverpool support remembered them about Munich, as bad as each other no time for both HH

  16. Big Cup Winners….

Can’t knock his record….apart from Europe….for the so called biggest club in the world to win 2 big golds in his 26 years in charge is a poor return on investment…..Cup Winners Cup was a mere bauble in comparison.

As a man……feckin graceless and no dignity judging by his latest book.

  17. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Ferguson is despite his passion a man who respects and values others. His admiration for Mr Stein is well publicised. His supportive efforts of Glasgow organisations, like Harmony Row BC are indicative of the man’s values.

His animosity towards the Deadclub would have made him a great Celtic manager. The Deadclub pinned the blame on him for the 4-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Scotland’s greatest side and shunted him to their 3rd team.

His dad ran one of the Govan (Brighton ?) Celtic Supporters Clubs too. A curious fact for a Ranger in the 1960’s ?

Think we might find that, by raising this issue formally with our Board, they were delighted, since it allowed them to raise the issue AGAIN……..in reaction to a complaint from their ‘customers’…… Can’t be accused of anything other than investigation a complaint raised at our AGM…

  20. Auldheid

I admire your patience in having to explain the same thing so often. ( not a dig at Joe I may add). I just can’t understand why people cannot see exactly the point you make, that, if the board had been determined to dismiss the resolution for whatever reason, then they would have done just that given they had every opportunity to do so. ( as is their prerogative.)

That alone should be enough to let people see that the background investigation continues and new information collected in preparation for a case submission which will have the best possible chance of attaining the desired result.

I respect the fact that you are trying to release what information you feel you can, is admirable, but I must admit you have a lot more patience than I do.

  21. Big Cup Winners….

I know all about his family history.

The guy is a phoney, in my opinion, and not fit to lace big Jock’s shoes.

Bill Shankly was far more a kindred spirit to the Big Man,and they both operated in far tougher environments than plagiarists like Ferguson.

Bob Paisley would have had Ferguson on toast if they had opposed each other.

Sir Bill….Sir Jock……..nah don’t think so mate.It must be cold for him in their shadows.
