Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

  1. I suppose it might as well be me who says it.

To see Manchester United, or indeed any other club, being described as ‘SCUM’ puts this site on a par with sites that I would not like to see it compared with.

Hate is a very strong emotion to project on to a football club.

Also find it hard to believe that an intelligent guy like yourself , wouldn’t find it within yourself to admit your team ever get beaten by a better team.

That’s what Ferguson confused ……disliking getting beat and hating admitting he was outfoxed or his team were inferior.

I dread the day if it ever happens us getting into the EPL, the most over rated league in the world just full of teams over spending on mainly dross and over charging fans for the privilege, no thanks HH

I have no interest in any team apart from Celtic and can’t stand any team we play, and as a Celtic supporter feel we should win every game we play from Barcelona to Brechin HH

Although many Scousers are anti-royalist like ourselves, they’re still pissed off at the three knighthoods for Busby, Charlton and Ferguson, while Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish got obe’s or whatever. When you also consider Brian Clough ( 2 big cups with a smallish club) getting the snub and the likes of Sir Geoff Hurst (ok world cup final hattrick) but Sir Trevor Brooking? Its no wonder the Liverpool fans have a gripe. In my book , their Kenny inspired side of 77-81 was England’s best ever. I also think our own club has more in common with them than any other.

  18. Seriously guys…..

I find it hard to believe Celtic fans expect to win games that even the management and players don’t think is possible.

You guys expected to win in Barcelona after the previous 5 group matches, considering Barca still needed something from the game?

There are some mad optimists and beyond this I don’t believe there is sanity.

    Doc,

I just read your article. Very good.

I believe the PLCs take on this can be described as the removal of the rotten apple. It is not just the politics of the GB that they don’t like but the majority’s too. If the ultra group that they want removed can be sacrificed at the altar of political favours then two for the price of one. A lot of activist removed too and vilified leaving a sterile support who can get excited about made up price tags. If as you hinted in your article its for EPL image perception it will tie in nicely with DDs EPL obssession. He would also be delighted by their removal …two for the price of one. Everything about the OB bill emanated from our board. Ask yourself who else would want it ? The SFA?, The courts? The OO ? The police ?

So its been done as a favour for Celtic …what do Celtic give in return ?

    Their cooperation and silence.

We will bank the money this window as Resolution 12 has them in an awful tizzy as its too late to come clean ?

And we still wont get the invite.

    A well penned article
