Ogilvie was born for this moment as SFA to consider expelling Rangers

877

Although Rangers won their case at the Court of Session today, they have the option not to serve the ruling on the SFA that its Judicial Panel’s 12 month ban on player registration is illegal.  Winning the point in law might sound like a victory, but taking the Association to court breaks membership rules of the SFA, rules imposed on all associations by Fifa.

We will find out soon enough the reach of SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, who was one of the recipients of an EBT which precipitated Rangers crisis.

Rangers are deep in Sion territory now.  Either they walk away from this showdown, the SFA expel or suspend them from football, or Fifa will shortly remind the SFA of their duties when a member club takes action in the civil courts.

Campbell Ogilvie was born for this moment; it justifies him holding onto his position all these months despite being “heavily conflicted”, according to his chief executive.  I do not expect this to end well.

Despite an independent judicial panel ruling against Rangers, there is no way the office holders at the SFA will expel Rangers, no matter what they do. They would rather jeopardise the Scotland national team and every other club’s European participation.

And nobody will know if the huns have trangressed until the huns sign a player.

As the huns will not exist in a few weeks..

I fail to see what you are getting excited about.

  2. Laird of Smiles aka PMTYH @ 18:44,

I can’t see how harsher sanctions could be applied.

Firstly FIFA would expect the SFA to ignore this ruling.

Secondly the SFA should ask RFCia to withdraw there case from the Court of Session.

Thirdly the harsher sanctions aren’t available as they were rejected by both the Tribunal and the Appeal panel.

Anything other will make this mess worse.

    Hail! Hail!

  3. Just a thought could Celtic follow RFC(IA) and take the SFA to court over lost revenue should SFA inaction result in UEFA & FIFA banning Scots club teams and the national team from all competitions! Surely the SFA have to act in the interests of all member clubs and not jeopardise the financial well being of all for the sake of one. Failure to do so would, imo, be tantamount to deliberate criminal negligence. Interesting to see a 15 million law suit against the SFA from Celtic.

Correct this just moved out of SFA reach

That’s the plan of course …point the blame elsewhere

Again I have to say credit is due to wur own board for not getting sucked in … Because the blame would sit nicely with Celts

There are actually 2 decisions now need to be made by the SFA.

    Gregory Ioannidis ‏@LawTop20

The SFA must now deal with two matters: 1) original charge of disrepute, 2) civil action by Rangers.

  6. Paul67 et al

Cannot see how the SFA can actually appeal against the Court of Session judgement without bringing itself into breach of UEFA/FIFA statutes. The question they need to ask themselves however is this; are we still going to be around to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the second oldest Football Association?

This scenario,in some ways reminds me of the Battle of Monte Cassino…where, because of the historical significance of the fourteen centuries old Benedictine Abbey, in December 1943, the German commander-in-chief in Italy, Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, ordered German units not to include the monastery itself in their defensive positions, and informed the Vatican and the Allies accordingly.

The response of our learned American and English friends was to drop 1,400 tons of high explosives on the old Benedictine Abbey.

  8. Thank for your advice lads,I may take a few bottles to Aberdour, but I’m a bit over-loaded in the carrying department as it is,I’ve just opened a bottle and it’s fine.how do you keep wine cool in this weather,I haven’t got a celler.

    Do you know the verse:

“I’ll be drinking wine when Rangers die”

  11. Not sure what to make of all this really.

Have to say I foretold everyone who berated ‘the 10’ for meeting about Rangers without Celtic that Celtic would themselves have secret meetings with anybody and everybody including Rangers and was proved right.

But that it’s okay for Celtic to do it reeks of the hypocrisy I warned people about.

Am not on here to open old sore what I am on here to say is that for once in a blue moon, council tv gets sports coverage spot on. I’m referring to ITV4s coverage of the French Open.

They’re taking all of the best commentators irrespective of nationality and giving the tournament the respect it deserves.

If only in Euro 2012, we’d have Brazilian or a German commentators (or a commentator from any far superior football nation) for England games with an unbiased, less-slavish opinion, I might be more sympathetic to their expected demise.

  12. Here we go again, lhads… It was all PL’s fault. Why didn’t I think of that. It’s all a Celtic conspiracy. I blame the board. They bring it on themselves.

Bhoys Rangers are prepared to push all boundries they have been caught cheating and they dont care they are the peepil.I continuely read what is going to happen to them as they break this rule and that rule. However, all these posters including Paul67 are assuming normal rules apply. That with Rangers is a mistake they are being helped all along the way by the establishment we see that in to days court ruleing the buck has been passed back to the football authorites. We even have Charles Green saying investors could make a profit so hold your fire and watch what happens. Any other club in Scotland including Celtic would have been out of business by now. H.H.

I believe that they’ve had some dialogue with Celtic which has gone some way to easing their concerns.

  19. Rangers have the SPL and the SFA over a barrel.

They can call their bluff anytime.

The SPL and SFA have already proven that NO MATTER how they breach the rules that they will still want Rangers in the SPL.

So Rangers now say well just bar us,because we know that you actually believe that you need us.

  22. If Rangers have been in admin for around 3 or 4 months and the fee charged by D&P is going to be circa £5.5m, what on earth was the fee paid by Motherwell having been in admin for 2 years?

Did they get their administrators from Poundstretchers maybe?

The judgement today stated rangers need to go back to the SFA, who must use one of the punishments actually in place.

They were told to not come back if they dont like what they hear.

Fifa have said, accept the original decision or get kicked out of football/relegated.
