One for the Zonal Detesters, ‘Playing’ Ashley

499

It was far from beautiful flowing football at Inverness yesterday but the players raised the tempo sufficiently to get the result. Leigh Griffiths scored a classic poacher’s goal. He missed plenty against Kilmarnock and Ajax but that’s part of the territory of being a striker.

I was delighted to see Carlton Cole make his first appearance for the club, and for anyone since last season. His first touch could have resulted in a goal but his sheer body mass caused sufficient panic in the Inverness defence that a goal resulted soon enough. There’s a lot of work ahead as Carlton looks to get match fit but he’s exactly the kind of foil we’ve missed this season.

For all the Zonal Marking Detesters……… We’re now man-to-man and we’re still conceding headers in front of goal. The problem was not resolved with the switch to man-to-man. Defending corner kicks requires a physicality and alertness which we’ve missed all season. The sooner we fix this and get back to zonal the better.

On the subject of physicality, Dedryck, this is your hand. A brick wall should have been thrown up in front of Miles Storey at the Inverness goal. I accept we have unresolved issues at set-pieces and that we’ll lose goals as a consequence. Goals conceded on Thursday – a deflection-come-ricochet, and a breakaway, had little to do with the defence, but yesterday’s Inverness goal was just rank bad defending.

At Carfin on Friday I told Phil MacGiollaBhain that there was no way Dave King could weasel out of paying Mike Ashley his £5m, having said he would do so. Phil referred me to the “glib and shameless liar” part of King’s past and not to be so naive. He could have a point.

Ashley holds the aces here. Any attempt to ‘play’ him will fail.

  2. Oh dear, I’v upset Don Pepe and a few others, Don Pepe doesent like the handle Storm Troopers, REALY? Well I’m not exactly doing cartwheels at the ones I get from your crew either, so like me your going to have to live with it I suppose?

My opinion on the CT is my opinion, same as you have your opinions, and meetings to discuss these opinions, and your Storm Troopers come on here to purvey them, and this is the bit I don’t get, the rest of us are supposed to sit back and say ” awe well the CT said this and the CT said that” naaaaaaa, doesent work that way Don Pepe, you are not the voice of the fans, far from it, and neither am I, I speak for me, Tony Donnelly.

Personally I find you post toeing the CT party line, pompous and arrogant, you honestly think you can stop me from thinking and having an opinion?

I support Celtic, I bleed Celtic, have done since my first game in 1955, I don’t give a monkeys about the wage structure , I leave that to the board to sort out that’s what boards do, and in my opinion they’r doing a good job, you the CT have other ideas on that, fine by me, fill your boots, but don’t think that your going to come in here running the club/board down and not expect some backlash, if you do your in Lala land.

Your post made out that it was a one way street and only I do the wrong, no one else, just me, me alone Tony Donnelly? And that you lurk here, well just reading my posts only would give you that assumption, in the true CT way, in my opinion that is, which was allowed on here the last time I looked.

  3. Ibrox Shambles Will Have Far Reaching Consequences…

Anyone who thinks Dave King & Co will all of a sudden start playing by the rules, well quite frankly need their head examined.

King, just the latest chancer to hold position of Chairman at Ibrox has no more fondness of the new club than he did of the old club. He is no more a RRM than those before him, Murray, Whyte or Green. His only love is money.

And his love of money will not only see him get ripped a new arse by Mike Ashley who has infinitely more, much more than King could ever wish for. But at a price for all of Scottish Football.

The long time cozy relationship of the SFA and ANY incumbent at Ibrox was always secure as long as…

Unfortunately, the game has changed. The posts have been moved.

The shit is about to hit the fan as they say, and there will be a lot more casualties than just Dave King.

The consequences of the many court cases that Dave King, Rangers, Sevco, the SFA and Mike Ashley are involved in will shape our game for evermore.

    HAVE YOUR SAY

FORMER Celtic skipper Tom Boyd believes it will take Rangers years before they are in a position to challenge for the Premiership title even if they manage to win promotion this season.

Boyd, who captained Celtic to their last domestic treble in 2001, claims that Celtic have too much financial muscle for the Championship leaders, arguing that it would take a massive investment of new cash to make Mark Warburton’s men genuine contenders.

Ibrox chairman Dave King has said he expects Rangers to have a chance of pipping their Old Firm rivals for a shot at Champions League qualification in 2017 but Boyd claims that is overly optimistic.

While bemoaning the lack of competition for Ronny Deila’s side, currently seven points and 22 goals ahead of second-placed Aberdeen and odds-on to win their fifth consecutive title, Boyd insists that Rangers are in no position to provide it.

Even if they beat Hibernian to automatic promotion, the former Scotland defender insists that Celtic will not be tested by them in 2016/17.

“For me, that’s a hypothetical,” he said. “I can’t see that happening with the players they have.

“They have five loan players just now so they’ll need to change them for next season. So it’ll take two or three years for them to get up and running to compete at the same level Celtic are at this moment.

“Yes, Rangers are a better team than they were last season. Look where Hearts are – eight points behind and Celtic are still a better team than them.

“I think that Rangers will still come up but they’ve got a challenge from Hibs so we’ll see how that develops.”

Asked when he believed Rangers might be in a position to break Celtic’s hegemony, Boyd replied: “It all depends on the circumstances and whether they can get their house in order financially, which is not there right now going by the last accounts, when they posted a loss of £7.5million.

“I know that might change if they do come up because they can then charge more for season tickets and you can add the extra money that comes with being in the top division but they’ll also have to pay more – you don’t know.

“Only time will tell. The lack of a challenge is a problem because we do need and want to get a competition going. Celtic are far too strong for the league.

“I don’t think they will be able to compete. It might happen if they [Rangers] find some decent players and I know Mark Waburton has made a start with the scouting side.

“That was certainly needed in this day and age. A process has begun but I think it will take a couple of years at least for Rangers to put in a serious challenge.”

Additionally, Joe wasn’t saying that you’re not allowed an opinion, of course you are, as is everyone who makes the decision to post on here. However, it was the vitriol that you display when you post about the Trust along with the highly loaded vocabulary (storm troopers, groomers) that was being highlighted.

Finally, the Trust have never and will never claim to speak for anyone other than our membership.

Disagreement is fine, it’s healthy. Offensive abuse of fellow Celtic supporters is not.

    Hail Hail

  6. RONNY Deila has no problems maintaining discipline at Celtic – despite Anthony Stokes becoming the latest Parkhead player to publicly clash with him in a high-profile incident at the weekend.

Stokes incurred the wrath of his manager after Tweeting his displeasure at being left out of the match day squad before kick-off in the Premiership match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday.

The online outburst from the striker came just a month after a bust-up involving Kris Commons during a Europa League match against Molde over in Norway.

Commons voiced his unhappiness at being substituted by Deila in the second half of the 3-1 defeat, angrily and in full view of the BT Sport television cameras, to his assistant John Collins in the dugout.

In addition, Charlie Mulgrew walked off the pitch towards the end of the Group A match against Ajax at Celtic Park last Thursday night shortly after coming onto the field as a substitute.

Deila explained afterwards that the Scotland internationalist had suffered an injury – and the player later verified this with a post on social networking site Instagram.

Still, the peculiar episode with Mulgrew and the flashpoints involving Commons and Stokes – three senior members of his squad – have led to increased speculation about the authority the manager exerts among the Celtic support.

However, Alex Smith, the chairman of the League Managers Association, last night insisted the 40-year-old is a strong personality who maintains order at the Scottish champions well.

“Deila’s discipline is very good,” said Smith. “I think he is quite a dominant character. Yes, there have been three separate situations recently. But incidents like the one with Commons happens regularly in football; a player is disappointed at being taken off in a game

“In the heat of the battle, in the spur of the moment, he mouths off. To be honest, a manager likes to see that passion. It shows he cares about being a part of the team.

“You can’t accuse Charlie Mulgrew of a bad attitude. He is an experienced professional who got an injury. For me, he has no case to answer.

“Anthony Stokes has proved himself to be a very good goalscorer and a very good player. He must be frustrated to be fit and training and not playing.

“But he has to redouble his efforts to feature. The manager must retain the right to select the team that he wants without interference and he does that.”

Meanwhile, Deila has been urged to keep faith with the youngsters who have impressed greatly in the games against Ajax and Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

The Celtic manager was unstinting in his praise of Scott Allan, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney following the 3-1 victory up in the Highlands on Sunday.

Smith, the former Aberdeen manager who is currently the technical director at Falkirk, believes Deila can enjoy great success in the future, both domestically and in Europe, if he persists with that trio and their contemporaries.

“Everybody was very downbeat and downhearted after the defeat to Ajax last week,” he said. “But, for me, there was a bigger picture. Scott Allan, Stuart Armstrong, Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Kieran Tierney, good young Scottish players, were all involved. That is the glimmer of hope for Celtic.

“In the 1950s, Celtic embarked upon probably the most successful youth policy in the history of football. Billy McNeill, John Clark, John Divers, Stevie Chalmers, Mick Jackson, Bobby Lennox and others broke through.

“They struggled at first against the great Rangers team of the early 1960s. But they gained first team experience and when Jock Stein took over they enjoyed extraordinary success. After that, the Quality Street Gang came through.

“Danny McGrain, Jim Brogan, Vic Davidson, Paul Wilson, George Connolly, Kenny Dalglish, Davie Hay all came in and out and eventually became established. It would be great for Scottish football if they could do it with young boys again.

“Celtic scour the world in the hope of signing players they can sell on for big money. They have been very successful doing it. But, for me, that doesn’t sit with the heritage of the club. Celtic have always produced their own players.

“If young boys with ability like Allan, McGregor and Tierney get the chance to play in the first team and show they can cope they become different people. They developed an air of confidence, a togetherness, an ambition and a hunger and also have an awareness of the history of their club.

    Share article

“The other night there were glimpses of that. Celtic have an opportunity to do that now with these boys and others. They should grab it. I think their supporters would be happy for them to go that way.

“They had great success in the past doing that. I appreciate times are different now and they try to target players who can compete in Europe. But they have a very good youth policy and academy. They have to have the courage to play these boys in the first team.”

It’s just in the CT DNA to, pick, pick, pick, it’s as I’v always said attention seekers, you just can’t let it go, in true Storm Trooper style, knew it wouldent last, but I tried.

  21. The most significant part of the RTC blog for me was that the SFA and media are trying to recreate the very conditions that brought about RFC’S demise along with the ongoing negative impact on our game since 1999.

The role of the smsm in perpetuating the illusion grows greater with every day, especially when the have the evidence on what was kept from LNS and it’s impact and stay silent whilst keeping the myth going.

    Corrupt to the core.

Whilst an appeal buys the football authorities some time in the form of an excuse not to set LNS aside yet, there cannot be any informed person left who does not believe the LNS Commission to be a sham and it should be set aside and a new investigation mounted taking all the points covered by RTC into account once the appeal reaches its end whatever that might be.

Then there is Res12. The SFA, unless something has arrived in the last 2 days, continue to refuse to answer questions put to them by Celtic shareholders.

The refusal in itself is mis governance and a wee reassessment of tactics might be necessary to finally force the issue but the SFA must be brought to account and cleared out before next season or the game ‘s a bogey. (Bogus in every sense of the word)

  22. I noted from a couple of quotes by de Boer that by using EBT’s Rangers were able to offer the same wages as Man Utd. Not better, just the same. Straight from the horses mouth confirmation that they were needed in order to afford players of that quality.

    Hail Hail

  24. Auldheid

If you look at this from the SFA position then they will be feeling uncomfortable but still confident in their ability to see this through with their brass neck approach.

    Look at the facts:

You guys have been working away at this for several years and as I type this

    a) The SFA continue to refuse to answer questions from Celtic shareholders

    b) The SMSM have all received full details, which you handed to them on a plate, and they are all united in their silence. Indeed that clown from Clyde1 actually had a go at you on Twitter saying he wouldn’t even look at it and telling you to get a life!

    c) Celtic, from the SFA’s view remember, have said NOTHING publicly on this.

So the cat is very much still in the bag. Until that changes the SFA are going to blank you and say nothing safe in the knowledge that you have failed to get the media interested and have been unable to get Celtic to go public.

Mike Ashley showed the way over the last few weeks by seeking judicial reviews on various matters. He is a Rangers (2012) shareholder.

You need to hit the SFA when they are at their most vulnerable. A queue of Judicial Reviews to defend would have them in a panic.

Of course Ashely can afford it but it could be time to consider raising funds to pursue this. I know that there are plenty of interest in crowd funding on here and on other forums like SFM etc. Celtic should also be asked the direct question – will they contribute.

Notwithstanding the above, I am 100% behind you and appreciate all you have done so far.
