One for the Zonal Detesters, ‘Playing’ Ashley

499

It was far from beautiful flowing football at Inverness yesterday but the players raised the tempo sufficiently to get the result. Leigh Griffiths scored a classic poacher’s goal. He missed plenty against Kilmarnock and Ajax but that’s part of the territory of being a striker.

I was delighted to see Carlton Cole make his first appearance for the club, and for anyone since last season. His first touch could have resulted in a goal but his sheer body mass caused sufficient panic in the Inverness defence that a goal resulted soon enough. There’s a lot of work ahead as Carlton looks to get match fit but he’s exactly the kind of foil we’ve missed this season.

For all the Zonal Marking Detesters……… We’re now man-to-man and we’re still conceding headers in front of goal. The problem was not resolved with the switch to man-to-man. Defending corner kicks requires a physicality and alertness which we’ve missed all season. The sooner we fix this and get back to zonal the better.

On the subject of physicality, Dedryck, this is your hand. A brick wall should have been thrown up in front of Miles Storey at the Inverness goal. I accept we have unresolved issues at set-pieces and that we’ll lose goals as a consequence. Goals conceded on Thursday – a deflection-come-ricochet, and a breakaway, had little to do with the defence, but yesterday’s Inverness goal was just rank bad defending.

At Carfin on Friday I told Phil MacGiollaBhain that there was no way Dave King could weasel out of paying Mike Ashley his £5m, having said he would do so. Phil referred me to the “glib and shameless liar” part of King’s past and not to be so naive. He could have a point.

Ashley holds the aces here. Any attempt to ‘play’ him will fail.

  1. TD67- apart from your belief that the CT purports to speak for all cfc fans, is there anything else about the CT that you disagree with?

When the zombies rise from the grave next season…the PLC will be clapping like seals, while some poor Celtic supporters are being hospitalised.

They have no shame….they want to make huge bonuses from bigotry.

I’m glad to say, that I wont be contributing to their blood money.

THE EXILED TIM. I can see what you are saying but they are not doing themselves ( both sides ) any good and certainly not enhancing the name of CQN. H.H.

  8. A wee suggestion….Mr Stein played with ‘one’ centre half, Billy McNeill and had, John Clark sweeping behind him.

Now, I know that we don’t have players anywhere near the class of the two that I’ve mentioned but….a wee idea has been banging around the back of my mind.

Play one ch with a clever player who is excellent at reading the game…sweeping up behind him.

I don’t know who is our best ch but, I’d love to see Kris Commons being played as a back-sweeper…something tells me that he’d be a revelation…plus..it would create a vacant position in midfield.

Commons utilized properly could be another captain / material / type on the pitch….imho.

A thought passed across my mind yesterday ( ` A short journey` as GB Shaw said). Here is that thought:

Our Ne`erday game is V Partick Thistle. If Sevco are in the top tier next season, will our Ne`erday game be against THEM or will Thistle keep the ` honour` ?

weeminger on 1st December 2015 9:30 am I noted from a couple of quotes by de Boer that by using EBT’s Rangers were able to offer the same wages as Man Utd. Not better, just the same. Straight from the horses mouth confirmation that they were needed in order to afford players of that quality –

    ———-

Definitely strange that all these Rangers EBT legends who DIDN’T join the club for money haven’t been able to pay back any of the loans they got……

Mike Ashley showed the way over the last few weeks by seeking judicial reviews on various matters. He is a Rangers (2012) shareholder.

Raised the issue of a Judicial Review a couple of years ago, asking how one would go about calling for one, and how much funding would have to be raised.

Would happily support this option if and when if became an issue to be addressed.

“The directors will consider carefully shareholders views on this vote, consult (where practicable) with those who did not vote or opposed the resolution and identify the company’s next steps after that process is complete.”

A question arising from the above.

Is it normal for a board of directors to be given the details of how specific shareholders voted?

Well that’s what you say, I don’t have proof, but I don’t make things up, it was a while ago, and the CT had a read over it that I do know, you and I will have to disagree on it, I know what I read, you say it didn’t happen. Fine.

    – See more at: http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/one-for-the-zonal-detesters-playing-ashley/comment-page-12/#comments

    ========

I’m not suggesting that you are making things up but whoever wrote what you read might have been or got the context wrong.

From memory the resolution was first set out as a draft on CQN but subsequent work was done on it off line by a few with the knowledge of the rules to focus on the UEFA licence.

The final version was shown to CST at one of their meetings to gain support to publicise it.

This was done very quickly with barely a look at the actual words and based more on trust that those proposing knew what they were talking about on a complex issue of UEFA FFP rules.

After that the CST had no involvement in fact I think they felt let down when an adjournment was agreed prior to the AGM.

That came about as information not known during the drafting stage started to put together a narrative that Celtic realised put their opposition to Res12 into the very doubtful category.

The time since has been spent removing the doubt aided by new information becoming available earlier this year.

We are now talking possible criminal negligence and one way or another the SFA will be brought to account.

You can take that to the bank too.

  22. “The time since has been spent removing the doubt aided by new information becoming available earlier this year.

    Oooooo…………………I’m soooooo liking that.

  23. KevJ

You and others misunderstand what is going on.

As a member club Celtic cannot take the kind of action individual shareholders can try to take.

Even if they did it would be portrayed as Celtic going after Rangers instead of what it is. Supporters going after the SFA for mis-governing Scottish football for years. in favour of one club. Something fans of other clubs now see

It’s a matter of boxing clever.

I’d love a guy like you beside me in the trenches because whilst you were going over the top to be gunned down I’d be sneaking around their back with a land mine. :)

Where are we going next? A bit of organising to do there involving funding first unless the SFA do bow to pressure already being exerted.

    After that it’s game on.
