One man’s cloud

1060

Adam Matthews has been on top form this season, his pace and partnership with Mikael Lustig have been unfailing for Celtic, so Neil Lennon will clearly feel robbed at a top players injury-enforced absence for three months.

It could be worse.

An injury to Forster, Ambrose, van Dijk or Izaguirre would be difficult to accommodate but we are not short of right side-midfield options.  James Forrest is now back from injury and although Derk Boerrigter joined as a left-sided player, he has already featured on the right for Celtic.  If Boerrigter plays on the left Samaras, Commons and Stokes can all feature on the right.

One man’s cloud is another’s silver lining, just ask Beram Kayal, who kept Victor Wanyama on the bench until he was injured in December 2011.  Victor got the run in the team he needed and never looked back.

Signing van Dijk was a response to an unexpected transfer request/not in the right frame of mind to pull a jersey on statement from Kelvin Wilson, but the major planned summer activity was to inject pace into the team for Champions League games, specifically through Boerrigter and Pukki.  For various reasons we’re not there yet, maybe Ajax at home later this month will change that.

Blown away by the 1254125 donations, which have flooded in since Friday. Each donor, from those who donated £5 to the several who gave £125 (like it!) are a credit to the spirit of those whose footsteps you walk in.  Promise to stop pestering with a link to the page.  Soon.

Thank you.

Statement that was released on behalf of Walter Smith and his consortium:

“I would like to clarify the background to the offer of £6million for the assets of the Club which I announced on Thursday 14th June 2012.

“The offer was made to the administrators before the Charles Green consortium had concluded their transaction to acquire the assets at £5.5m from the administrators.

“We felt it necessary to have a fall-back position to secure the Club’s future. We have since made the same offer of £6m to the Green consortium through Zeus Capital.

“Our offer has been rejected and they have made a counter-offer inviting us to join their consortium. However, the current business plan is not in accord with our understanding of the present circumstances of the Club and the way forward, but we would prefer to leave them to proceed in their own way and we wish them good luck in their endeavours.

“Members of our consortium had met with Charles Green and Zeus Capital prior to the CVA meeting and it had been agreed that we would be provided with significant information which would give us comfort as to the identity of the consortium members, their strategy and their funding capacity. This information had not been forthcoming by the date of our offer.

“We are therefore withdrawing completely from the process to enable Charles Green and his consortium to move forward.

“We very much hope the verbal assurances they provided to us – and the public statements made – are adhered to and that the Club will therefore be financed and managed with appropriate governance and can go forward in a sustainable manner.

“We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”

You’d maybe just want to check what the legal position is there before deliberately poisoning the environment by pouring petrol or diesel about the place.

  5. Desertbhoy……I was thinking that …bad memories of starting a wee fire in a Maybole cottage with a wee bit petrol …sister-in-law came running through from the kitchen with the basin of water ….fire oot …but almost took my eye out with the breakfast cutlery …dodgy stuff…Braw!

  6. Morning all!

Does any of our Dutch based celts, or indeed embdy, know if Ajax have made any comment about the forthcoming CL games?

I’ve witnessed some confidence from our camp…realistic chance of 6 points etc.

I am not up to speed on this current Ajax team, but I would expect them to fancy their chances. Embdy?

  7. I see Walter Smith is all over the media.. Does he have a book coming out or something.

Apparently anyone but Alistair would have walked away by now. Guess the £825K pa buys quite a lot at Greggs these days. But then I suppose Smith is the expert on walking away …

  8. Another day, and another day that Ally will shed circa 40 000 pounds.

Well, not Ally exactly, but the company/club/team for which he is the figureheed.

    A cold fact.

  10. Joe Filippis Haircut on

All this talk of Fraser Forster for England bothers me as I dont think he is ready yet, he is a good shot stopper but unfortunately he doesnt command his box.A goalkeeper with his size and frame coming out and flapping when he punches a ball he should be catching, needs improvement.I have seen Goal keepers over the years being capped when they were not ready and it has ruined there careers Frank Haffey Bobby Ferguson are just two of the many who spring to mind I dont want to see Big Fraser joing the list. If Barcelona sign Sammy in January on freedom of contract it would be a good bit of business for them but poor from us in not having him re signed 6 months ago. H.H.

  17. There is a song sang by John Denver called…I’m sorry…if I knew how to copy and paste I would, but the words in it are what Walter Smith should be saying to the Sevco Mob, the words are so true, if someone posts it, it’s funny, and bang on to what is happening over at the asbestos stadium, .

    Good Morning.

I read the full judgement in one of the courts actions between the South African Revenue Service and Dave King last night.

In the body of the decision, the judge labels Mr King “a glib and shameless liar” and goes on to say that on any issue King will say whatever suits him, brings him an advantage, and is someone whose evidence cannot be trusted or treated as truthful unless supported by independent documentary evidence.

All of this was reported by the Daily Record as far back as 15th February 2011.

King continues to fight various tax battles as I understand it, but what struck me as astonishing was the news that part of the income that King was alleged to have failed to disclose, was income earned from a South African Football Club.

It is said, that King bought the club for the princely sum of 1 Rand in return for paying of the club’s bank debt and ten proceeded to take millions out of the club which he then did not declare.

    Imagine that……….

  19. Dear Old Uncle Walter has rightly cheered me up this morning.

Everything that went wrong with Old RFC in a nutshell.

Everything that is going wrong with the new one summed up perfectly well too.

I’m only left wondering how many Million pounds Dear Old Uncle Walter, Rangers man to the core, took from the club over the years? But of course, he only took it because the fans would have expected the club to spend big money on a manager. It was the Rangers way.

I demand a statue to Walt in the middle of George Square as a lasting monument to is contribution to Rangers. No one on either side of the great Glasgow football divide could argue with that. In fact we would probably both end up laying commemorative wreaths at it for very different reasons…….

Away for a paracetemol for my aching sides.

It is a very strange coincidence though is it not?
