One man’s cloud

1060

Adam Matthews has been on top form this season, his pace and partnership with Mikael Lustig have been unfailing for Celtic, so Neil Lennon will clearly feel robbed at a top players injury-enforced absence for three months.

It could be worse.

An injury to Forster, Ambrose, van Dijk or Izaguirre would be difficult to accommodate but we are not short of right side-midfield options.  James Forrest is now back from injury and although Derk Boerrigter joined as a left-sided player, he has already featured on the right for Celtic.  If Boerrigter plays on the left Samaras, Commons and Stokes can all feature on the right.

One man’s cloud is another’s silver lining, just ask Beram Kayal, who kept Victor Wanyama on the bench until he was injured in December 2011.  Victor got the run in the team he needed and never looked back.

Signing van Dijk was a response to an unexpected transfer request/not in the right frame of mind to pull a jersey on statement from Kelvin Wilson, but the major planned summer activity was to inject pace into the team for Champions League games, specifically through Boerrigter and Pukki.  For various reasons we’re not there yet, maybe Ajax at home later this month will change that.

Blown away by the 1254125 donations, which have flooded in since Friday. Each donor, from those who donated £5 to the several who gave £125 (like it!) are a credit to the spirit of those whose footsteps you walk in.  Promise to stop pestering with a link to the page.  Soon.

Thank you.

Canamalar, hats off to you for your tireless work in getting the resolution to the AGM. What you,ve started here is nothing short of astonishing. I’m so pleased you got the support you required. Where will it go now? Interesting times ahead.

Morrissey 23rd’s no a bad lad either but he’s a hell of a heavy duty snorer.

    ………………………………………………….

I took a phone call for my son today (shareholder supporting Canalamar) and Asian lady on the line wanted to speak to him. Told her he was at work and what is it she wants. She said it’s about his shares and she was phoning on behalf of Celtic FC asking him not to sell to hostile buy-out.

Crap, I know but she wanted to know if he still lived at this address and it just occurred to me that perhaps this was a check-up from Celtic to see if they can get any shareholder supporting the Resolution disqualified?

Too Machiavellian, not devious enough? Don’t know, anyone else had this recently?

    Boiler room scam advice

By: Newsroom Staff on 27 Aug, 2013 11:38

IT has come to our attention that recently a number of shareholders have received unsolicited telephone calls concerning their investments in Celtic plc.

Shareholders should be wary of any unsolicited advice, offers or other communications regarding their shares and/or personal information.

Following a recent increase in the prevalence of so-called ´boiler room´ scams, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries (ICSA) have produced a leaflet warning investors about unsolicited communications concerning investment matters, which is available in full by going to:

    http://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/scams/investment-scams/share-fraud-and-boiler-room-scams

Please note the following recommendations in particular if you receive any unsolicited investment advice:

    – Make sure you get the correct name of the person and organisation.

    – Check that they are properly authorised by the FCA before getting involved by visiting http://www.fca.org.uk/register

    – Report the matter to the FCA either by calling 0800 111 6768.

    – or visiting http://www.fca.org.uk/consumer

    – If the calls persist, hang up.

Further information and advice on scams, and how to protect yourself from them, can also be found on the Consumer Information section of the Financial Conduct Authority website at http://www.fca.org.uk/ and at http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/

We continue to encourage Celtic shareholders to be vigilant.

haha..memories of laces about 4 ft long. They’d wrap round your boots umpteen times, get caked in wet red ash, and were a nightmare to untie. I used to walk through a deep puddle to clean them. Think my first boots were Gola but I remember older guys wearing ancient things called (I think) St Ninian Wings, from the Stanley Matthews era.

“Weeminger, we ought to be fearful. We face a threat from fanatical lunatics who hate us. Dismiss them at your peril. These b*stards are creating havoc throughout the world. Their atrocities increase by the day.”

Rather than be fearful could I suggest that we be responsible and proportionate? Rather than dismissing them, as you misinterpreted, weeminger was expressing a healthy scepticism as to who benefits from heightened tensions around this area.

Authorities and a craven press who trumpet exaggerated figures to make the threat appear larger than it is, are doing a dis-service to our safety.

We do face a legitimate threat, and much of that will come from religious extremists. Many, but not all, of those will be Islamic. I am still more likely, in my daily life, to come to harm from the actions of someone who is not Islamic, as are you.

In contrast, Islamic people in the UK and many who are not Islamic but happen to share their perceived predominant skin tone are far more likely to be attacked and harmed as “potential terrorists or terrorist supporters” than are white Christian people in this country. Stoking up the fears and stereotyping the “otherness” of “those b*stards” is one way the press and Authorities put these people at risk. Of course, this picture of risk is reversed for lighter skinned and non-Islamic people visiting many predominantly islamic countries.

The statistics for hate crimes and racist incidents, in the UK are not often broken down by ethnicity or religious affiliation. However, statistics from the Metropolitan Police- the only force to record Islamophobia as a category of hate crime show that there were 395 Islamophobic incidents in 2010/11. What is notable in the statistics is that the total number of religion hate crimes recorded by the Metropolitan Police is significantly higher than that recorded by all other forces.

I think weeminger is quite right.

Many of the people most opposed to Islamic extremism are adherents of Islam themselves. The people who rebelled in Egypt are not secular, for the most part, but Islamists with different political views to the government.

The picture in Syria is a lot more dazed and confused. It is not easy to sum up but trust no-one and dis-trust everyone just about covers it.

  18. Winning Captains, would appreciate being added to your list.

Cathedral View Scam was my initial thought and it was only as an afterthought and seeing the comments on here about the angst that Canalamar/Morrisey23 are causing that it occurred to me that it might be a company attempt to debar certain shareholders from supporting the Resolution.
