‘Only Newco option is SPL’ utter rubbish

770

Scottish Premier League chief executive, Neil Doncaster, yesterday told the BBC that no provision existed for a liquidated SPL club to reconvene as a Newco FC at the bottom of the Scottish Football League (reported at 1821 on their crisis timeline).

This is being grossly misreported to suggest that the only opportunity for a Rangers Newco to phoenix is to slip straight back into the SPL – completely and utterly untrue.

There is also no provision for a Newco FC to slip into the SPL.  Newco FC would be able to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League (where they would unquestionably be accepted) or the Scottish Premier League.

The default position when a club goes out of business in the Scottish Premier League is that the club that finishes bottom of the league at the end of the season escapes relegation.  As things stand, Dunfermline would remain an SPL club and Ross County would be promoted.

No moral, legal or football administrative argument has been made to suggest that Dunfermline will be relegated to allow a new club entry into the league.  None whatsoever.  Dunfermline Athletic will remain a SPL club if Rangers are liquidated.

The various parties seeking to phoenix Rangers would get the lawyers onto securing a stadium, scouting some part-timers, buying a ticketing system, applying for entry into the Scottish Football League and finding cash to employ stadium stewarding. This could take weeks but is more likely to take months or even years.

Football needs to get used to this idea.

Neil Doncaster did not suggest a Newco FC applying for entry into the SPL had any primacy over an application to the SFL.  In fact, an application to the SFL would not have to overcome the unfortunate objections of Dunfermline Athletic  – who pay their BBC licence fee and are worthy of due respect.

    Thank you again mate.

On a tangent. One of the STV panel tonight identifies the core problem. Their only income stream is match day tickets.

That applies to some degree to Celtic and Celtic have to find a way of reaching beyond that stream to sustain our income.

That Membership Scheme that is trading water could become very important. More thoughts on that in due course.

  3. Driving through some areas of Belfast in the last few days, I’ve noticed a couple of things:

    No hun regalia, 6 county colours seem to be preferred;

    A proliferation of Chelsea supporters.

Have they reached the acceptance stage.

I’m a wee bit wooly when it comes to finances and administration and liquidation etc. I’m never really had much of an interest in it previously and my only interest now is hun baked. I going to stick my neck out and say I too think the huns are toast but one thing that does irate my mind is, do I really believe, even seeing what I am seeing, and hearing what I am hearing, and knowing what I know, do I really believe that the hun is just going to curl up and die and fade to dust and leave Timmy as Top Dog in Scotland for ever and ever?

I could list a dozen organisations that would not wish that to happen, there are hundreds of thousands, if not one or two million, Scottish citizens that do not want that to happen.

I think the huns as we know them are gone, their standard is disgraced and it will be lowered. They’ll be back though and regardless whether they rally to a new standard or one with a few more ribbons and stars, I doubt their purpose will be as sporting as the one foreseen by a few Glasgow rowers and we all know how that adventure soured.

I look forward to a period of ‘dominance’ for Celtic, but I will be forever looking back over my shoulder because they will organise and they will get money and as I said – they will be back.

My ideal from this is would be if we used it to get ourselves out of the league we are in and into another where the huns would be anathema and KB’d.

Anything other than that they will regard as a vindication of their WATP view of the world.

Yep, heard that as well. So, (almost) everything at Ibrokes is outsourced to other companies?

Then why the outcry about redundancies if they are not directly employed by the HUNS?

  12. it could be a quiet day or quite a day..

I’ll leave it to you to make you own mind up.. o))

  13. Sorry if I’m way behind the game here, not had a chance to catch up fully, but listening back to Ned Flanders on SSB and he’s just spoken of “Andy Goram and others who have represented the club with distinction” !!?? I’d be interested to know what dictionary he’s using and in what unknown universe that leads him to include the words “distinction” and “Andy Goram” in the same sentence!! Unless – Hugh Keevins, master satirist, take a bow…

I never thought I’d say this but Broonie being available for Sunday could make the difference as to whether we do the treble this year or not.

Filled in all the requested info some weeks ago only to be met by fail messages which failed to explain the problem to me.
