OUT OF LUCK: LENNY FACES REJECTION

CELTIC appear to be out of luck in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s 20-year-old left-back Mitchell Bakker.

Neil Lennon was interested in a season-long loan deal for the Dutch defender who just joined the French giants from Ajax last year, as CQN reported yesterday.

However, it looks as though Bakker will shun any attempt to join the Hoops’ bid for the historic 10 in a row.

The champions’ original move for the youngster was rejected and it has been reported the player wants to remain and prove himself at the Champions League runners-up.

Thierry Boon, a reporter with NOS, insisted Bakker is aiming to make the breakthrough during the upcoming campaign with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

He claimed: “Celtic seems to want to rent Mitchel Bakker from PSG. The left-back rules out a (temporary) departure.”

Boon also quoted the player as saying: “I’m going for a chance in Paris.”

The stance of Bakker, who impressed Lennon in his team’s 4-0 win in the pre-season friendly in Paris, will disappoint the Hoops boss who has targeted a new No.3 with Boli Bolingoli poised to leave the club after his unauthorised hush-hush trip to high-risk Spain.

Celtic will continue to search for competition to Scotland international Greg Taylor in the position.
