Guess that’s the first needle I’ve had from anyone on here in 8 years. Your point is?

  2. By the way, I was saying to my cousin yesterday that I think Brendan Rodgers is THE best thing that has happened to Celtic since Jock Stein. He seems to have a magic wand. He has transformed what is essentially Ronnie’s team, just as Jock transformed Mr McGrory’s.

That’s very true, who was Steins first signing Joe McBride right?

Todays game at Ibrokes in the fight for second place should be a good scrap I fancy it will end up as a draw.Anytime I have watched either team this season I cannot see much between them however, the Rangers have home and the referee as an advantage. H.H.

Is that the best you can do?! :-)))))

Agree about the songbook, it was cringeworthy listening to it on the telly. Been it, seen it, done it and will probably do it again but only in the ‘proper’ environment and not at the games.

There’s been a lot of discussion in recent weeks about the song book particularly at away games. The Jackie Husband stand which housed the Celtic support last night holds around 6,300. During several ‘Irish’ songs being sung last night I suspect that those joining in would be counted in the thousands rather than hundreds.

I don’t tend to join in with many of the Rebel songs these days but it’s clear that many Celtic supporters still want to sing them whilst watching Celtic.

Delighted at last night’s performance and result-grateful thanks as always to Lymmbhoy!

We really are a much improved unit on last season, and if we can improve so much domestically one year, who’s to say we can’t improve as much in Europe next season?

Our top scorer in the league only has seven goals,I think. One goal in two games. But we are scoring three a game, defences must be worried whenever ANY of our players get the ball.

Obviously we’re not at the Total Football level perfected in the 60s by us and then the Dutch, but it seems to be Brendan’s template.

He’s made a good start. We are now a total nightmare for opposing defences.

Guid to be a Tim,that’s for sure.

  10. If the songbook was proven detrimental to Celtic Football club , should we still participate or condone it.?

Do as I say not as I do or did..

We where all young and rebellious once and would tell our elders to bugger off

Why should the young ones desist?

  13. On the park was magnificent last night, 3 days after an leg draining away day. Eric is becoming more and more important to our overall team performance. He was great last night when, the difference to the defence without him at Motherwell last week was stark.

Off the park was predictably awful, standard fare these days from our fans at away game. It gets bleaker with every passing game. I haven’t heard The SP being sung at a game before, this marks a new low in my humble view. Can’t see it changing any time soon, which makes me pretty sad.

On a positive, we now have a really busy December, which will be a feast of entertainment for us, this team is great to watch!

  14. Many happy returns to Lennybhoy junior hope the family have a fabulous day !

MWD hope you also have a great day

  15. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Songbook – Wee BGFC starting to join in now too.

Mixed feelings to be honest – sung plenty when I was younger, so I feel hypocritical criticising others now that I am ‘older and wiser’ (and in any case, I still like a lot of them myself).

Never been keen on Provo songs – prefer the older ones (4 Green Fields, West Awake, Down by the Glenside), etc. – probably because I saw the mayhem – on both sides – in the 70’s / 80’s when I was growing up.

Always feel there is a strong emotional attachment to the songs – first song I can remember in my life is The Merry Ploughboy (my mum singing it to me when I was wrapped up in a red tartan shawl aged about 2) – but there is a logical argument for not singing them at the football – it isn’t a straightforward black and white argument (for me).

  16. Hamiltontim….good morning to you Sir.Reading back over the last couple of hours and noting what you said about thousands of Celtic fans singing the “rebs” at last nights game my question would be do you think it’s not detrimental to Celtic’s image as a whole…i certainly do.I find it pretty embarrassing and i’m sure every fan of other Scottish club finds it distasteful. My mother and father were both Irish and i hold an Irish passport and am very proud of my roots but don’t see the purpose of singing these songs in this day and age at a football match.

  17. When scotland decides that the bigot fest that takes place in scotland on a weekly basis, be it at hun football matches or orange walks is no longer appropriate in this day and age, they may be in a position to tell us what we can and can’t sing, till then, feck them.

    ——-

    Good morning.

As I said I tend not to sing many of the Irish songs at the football nowadays. Personally, I don’t find them embarrassing, however, I do increasingly hear particular songs and think to myself that that’ll be frowned upon.

The ‘image of Celtic’ is a subjective matter. I care what we as Celtic supporters think of ourselves and our club. I don’t find myself shaking my head when Aberdeen or Hearts or Man City fans criticise us for our song choice.

I suppose the issue is in trying to find a balance. I know several Tims who believe some Irish songs to be acceptable whilst frowning on others. Who decides?

Phil’s latest article about Ibrox contains very specific allegations. The article is much less vague than his usual output.

    Yet reaction is muted.

I do wonder if Phil is being set up for a fall here: being fed duff information so he can be discredited further down the line.

    Morning Italia

Can assure you the netting issue is completely accurate. I have seen the contract. Also the timing referred to is sound.

His quotes from ibrokes I don’t know but can absolutely confirm the netting.

    Great night last night.

  20. TD67,

Imo, Joe McBride is the best centre forward I have seen in a Celtic jersey. When he was playing, we knew he would score. His goals gave the others the confidence they needed.

  21. Anyone who thinks Referees today are bad or biased have a look at the Video posted earlier. One of the Daddies of them all.

John James going further with his accusations against a certain Monkey player today. Its there in black and white,so we shall await further legalities.Monkey Media now on his case.A Corporal Jones moment,

“They dont like it up em”

  22. I don’t think it’s a case of what Huns sing, or what goes on at orange walks, IMO, it’s a case of being above it, leading by example, there are places to sing them, and places not to, things have changed people get smarter, some in here say they don’t sing them and but don’t mind them being sang? That would be the ones with the agenda, I don’t sing them at Celtic park, but I do in the pub, and in my house when I have a wee rebel night, I have another local pub I go to it’s 75/25 pro.tims no one sings them, it’s not good PR in my opinion, but when the likes of the CT are condoning it! Well there’s your answer, and they want a fan representation on the board?

    I rest my case.

If you don’t count Henrik as a no. 9, yes McBride’s the best. Probably my first Celtic hero.

    Tony,

Two lines there, one good one very dodgy.

    ‘it’s not good PR’ good

    ‘the CT condone it’ ehhh?

  24. If the Celtic Trust ever make any sort of statement on the song choice of the Celtic support I’ll be sure to post it. They haven’t and won’t but I’m pretty sure that any objective Tim, those without an agenda against their fellow Tims, will be well aware of this.

  25. TD67,

I agree with you a lot this morning. I too feel that we shouldn’t bother with what comes out of any other support. We shouldn’t be singing a lot of what was heard last night. We have a lot of great songs and even ones like the Wild Rover, which we used to sing back in the day.

  26. Parkheadcumsalford

Good morning I hope you and your father are well.

    A wee question.

What’s your opinion on the recent addition of Grace to the repertoire?

Agree 100%.We will not be dictated to by people who think chanting about child abuse is fun.On the 10 Dec Glasgows streets will once again be subjected to outright bigotry as the Apprentice Monkeys take to them.Dec 10th !!!!!!!!!!!.When did this start.Whipping the Monkeys up into a frenzy before the Hearts game.

Anyone who thinks Republican songs are distasteful, get a life.If it was not for the in your face type of Celtic fan,the Holy Wullies among our support would have been trampled underfoot long ago.
