  1. Tough to beat a 36 point transformation in one season, up against cheats who had spent tens of millions on their team.

Martin’s was the greatest improvement in performance since John Sullivan wrote ‘Only Fools and Horses”, having penned “Just Good Friends”.

  4. H/T,

Morning. My Dad and I are fine. I am even able to show him our goals on my tablet. He is enjoying watching us as much as he ever did.

    Hope you are well too.

I think Grace is an excellent addition to our repetoire.

By the way, my Dad’s bus wouldn’t allow a lot of those songs sung last night be sung going to and from games. One guy tried (I think going to Aberdeen) and he was put off the bus.

That’s why so many of us are conflicted when we suggest toning it down, leave it for the pubs and clubs etc.

We know the transgressions of our youth. But when times change,so should opinion.

    Of course,facts haven’t changed.

  6. Songs –

Didn’t see last night so can’t comment – I will however comment on this .

My basic position is Free Speech , sing what you want , say what you want and deal with the consequences — However – Tuesday night in Manchester ——— blootered buffoons on a tram packed with commuters bellowing a choon about someone who was murdered by the British Army .. Naff , self serving ( aren’t we the Rebel -look at us ) and seemingly completely lacking respect for the subject of the song . Turned my stomach , I got off the tram before I had a flakey .

I’m glad to hear that your dad is still able to maintain his love of Celtic. The value of modern technology!

The reason is asked about Grace is because, apart from being a song about young love, it’s also about a militant Irish Republican who was about to be put to death as a result of his participation in trying to overthrow British rule in Ireland.

The difficulty is in deciding what’s acceptable and what’s not.

  8. Turkeybhoy

The song choice of the Celtic support has nothing whatsoever to do with the Huns.

They are irrelevant to this whole conversation. This is about Celtic.

  9. Am confused….we recognise that our songsheet is no. longer .em. appropriate….and we condemn our youth for singing the songs we taught thum….

  10. As for the singing of – long winded republican songs

Why, at a Cellic game ?

Do these songs make the team play better ?

Do the players even know who’s being sung aboot ?

The IRA put the guns away…the troubles ended

So, why keep it going ?….there is no currency

The folk at the sharp end of the troubles will be glad of peace…

Cellic have loads of magical songs……sing them!

Or, are some folks psuedo-rebel-uber-Tim-ego-trips more important than doing what the Jungle did ie: putting a shift in for the team ?

Ah mean, the IRA don’t exist anymore so, why sing aboot them ?

Does it make the team play better should be the ‘most’ important question always.

There is no currency for IRA songs so, why sing them ?

The Jungle sang rebel songs in support of the armed struggle that was ‘alive’ at that time back in the day.

Noo, it’s all about the Cellic….that’s where the magic is.

  11. H/T

I think Grace is an excellent addition.

I fully understand it’s background but also feel it’s main thrust is that of a first a true love in the face of adversity and oppression.

Reminds me of when I first started supporting Celtic!!

If the Celtic Trust ever make any sort of statement on the song choice of the Celtic support I’ll be sure to post it. They haven’t and won’t but I’m pretty sure that any objective Tim, those without an agenda against their fellow Tims, will be well aware of this.

There’s yer answer above, the CT haven’t and won’t make a statement of choice of songs, ergo, they condone it.

They need the numbers at they’r back right now on this fan representation on the board push, so running with the hare and chasing with the hounds suits them at this present time, trust me HT is the runner, and like the rest of the C T he/ they won’t give you an answer on this one, and the very same guys say that about the Celtic board, who da thunk?

  14. Have there ever been any arguments on CQN about singing Provo songs by Celtic supporters?

    Yes.

Have we ever had any agreement?

    No.

    Is there any point?

Is there a war going on just now ?

    Naw!

So, why sing about stuff that is irrelevant ?

The Jungle sung the rebs in support of a cause – now there is no cause.

    So, why sing them ?

What relevance do those songs have to the remit of the Celtic support of today which as I understand that remit to be – support the team on the pitch.

What does GRACE have to do with a Cellic team on the pitch ?

A friend of mine here is taking here two daughters (6 + 3) to the West Highland way next April, she asked me about weather and stuff of course I haven’t got a clue being away so long.

So if any one could point me in the direction of a good info source for the West Highland way or has any ideas how the weather is up there in April I would be really grateful.

She’s driving I guess but wants some insider knowledge and what to pack etc.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Schools???????.

People are of course entitled to an opinion about the rights and wrongs of our ” Songbook “, as are the Fans who sing them ( dont go quoting the OB act) .Whilst it is never pleasing to hear other fans songs or chants being sung I dont get myself too upset about it, I either boo them or start a song of our own, Sticks and Stones comes to mind.

So really if a song at a football ground upsets you so much dont go or mute your TV and LET THE PEOPLE SING.
