Pathetic opportunists who are miles behind the curve

440

You will not hear supporters or staff at an opposing club with a bad word to say about Graeme Murty.  He took over a shambles of a football club and for several months matched results with anyone in the league.  Twice he took Newco to Celtic Park and left with a point, but the man is a football coach, not a miracle worker.  The disparity in resources would eventually tell.

Against the might of Brendan Rodger’s Celtic for a third, fourth and fifth time he experienced increasingly worse defeats.  No one was surprised by this, the Newco board even tried to sell these results as “ahead of the curve”, but there was a fundamental issue that made it difficult for Murty to remain in position – he was sabotaged.

The evening before a game at Celtic Park, news leaked (and was not contradicted by the club) that Steven Gerrard agreed terms to become Newco manager.  This came a day after Murty spoke about his chances of keeping the job if he won the four remaining league games.  It was degrading and prioritised the position of the board over results on the field.

Dave King made a similar comment about the future Newco manager just days before his team faced Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final two weeks ago.  That statement coincided with season ticket renewal letters.

What could Murty say after losing 5-0 at Celtic Park?  We did our best but last night someone, who travelled with us on the team bus today, leaked that I was soon to be removed from my position?  Whatever exchanges took place between the manager and his employers, a common purpose was difficult to imagine.

Inevitably, there has been some pullback on the Gerrard ‘news’.  It seems matter is not as clear-cut as was believed on Sunday morning.  I spoke to Peter Lawwell before the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.  Brendan wanted to come and the Celtic board were equally keen, but Peter was clear: until a deal was signed, no one really knew what would happen.  He had not committed to deliver anyone in particular, but he was nervous.

Promising a new manager the evening before you visit Celtic Park might take the edge of the inevitable pain for some, even at the cost of undermining your manager, but you had better deliver on that leak.  Otherwise, you will look like pathetic opportunists who are exploiting the trust of your fans and are miles behind the curve.

hAVE THEY NO SUFFERED ENOUGH ? WHY WAS ANYONE WORRIED ABOUT PLAYING THEM

    —————————————————————————————————————————————

Where Rangers rank in aggregate score table against Celtic

Celtic have dominated domestically under Brendan Rodgers but which club has suffered the most?

    11:52, 30 APR 2018UPDATED15:35, 30 APR 2018

Rodgers strolled down the Celtic Way and took charge at Parkhead.

They have won five out of five trophies and are one victory away from securing a historic double Treble if they see off Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final.

Rangers once again suffered at the hands of their rivals as they were blown away 5-0 as Celtic sealed their seventh consecutive league title.

But who have Rodgers and Co had the biggest advantage over? A lot has been made of the their dominance over their city rivals as well as nearest challengers Aberdeen.

Record Sport Online has crunched the numbers as we look at which team the Hoops have dominated the most over the past two seasons using aggregate scores.

*denotes only one season in Premiership

    Hibernian*

    Aggregate scoreline: 10-8 (difference: 2)

Neil Lennon’s side have played fewer games than most on this list but there is no doubt they have been better than the rest at bridging he gap. A thrilling 2-1 win last week came on the back of two previous draws.

    Dundee

    Aggregate scoreline: 12-2 (difference: 10)

Dundee have done a good job of keeping the score down against Celtic but haven’t been quite as adept at punishing the Hoops at the other end.

    Hamilton

    Aggregate scoreline: 15-3 (difference: 12)

Accies are still waiting for their big result against Rodgers’ side but have done a better job than most of avoiding any real hidings.

    Inverness*

    Aggregate scoreline: 15-2 (difference: 13)

Caley Thistle were a poor lot last season and Celtic hammered them in the Scottish Cup but they were the first team to take a point off Rodgers before their eventual relegation.

    St Johnstone

    Aggregate scoreline: 19-6 (difference: 13)

Tommy Wright’s side haven’t been at their best this season but have earned two draws at Parkhead. However, a couple of heavier defeats have put St Johnstone further down the table.

    Hearts

    Aggregate scoreline: 20-7 (difference: 13)

Hearts were the team that ended Celtic’s 69-game unbeaten run after a 4-0 win at Tynecastle at December. That triumph was thrilling but they haven’t had much success outside of that.

    Kilmarnock

    Aggregate scoreline: 18-4 (difference: 14)

Steve Clarke has shown he knows how to battle Rodgers with a 1-1 draw and a 1-0 win since arriving. Lee Clark and Lee McCulloch showed less resistance before he turned things around.

    Partick Thistle

    Aggregate scoreline: 19-5 (difference: 14)

Alan Archibald’s side earned a 1-1 draw at Parkhead last season but have come up second best outwith that.

    Ross County

    Aggregate scoreline: 16-2 (difference: 14)

Alex Schalk’s infamous dive earned a draw last season in Dingwall but the Staggies have barely landed a glove on Celtic and haven’t scored this season.

    Motherwell

    Aggregate scoreline: 21-5 (difference: 16)

The Steelmen have been familiar opponents for Celtic and they came so close to becoming the team to beat Celtic back in November. They will face the Hoops in the Scottish Cup Final next month.

    Aberdeen

    Aggregate scoreline: 22-3 (difference: 19)

Derek McInnes has lost nine consecutive games against Celtic under Rodgers but they showed glimpses in last year’s Scottish Cup Final that they could compete. They will get another chance for redemption on the final day of this season. Celtic have only conceded once at Pittodrie in their four wins in the north east.

    Rangers

    Aggregate scoreline: 30-6 (difference: 24)

The goal difference truly is staggering as Rangers are left bottom of the table. Celtic have scored five goals in three games against Rangers since he arrived as well as the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final triumph. Rangers have earned two draws at Celtic Park but have never even come close to competing with their rivals over any sustained period. The dominance is laid bare in the astonishing 24-goal difference over the past 11 matches.

Had a great day. Met a couple of mates in the inty both wrecked… one Celtic one sevco.

Fair play to my hun mate said he was relieved it wasn’t ten and Celtic were sublime.

The usual monkeys in work refrained from eye contact with me.

Wee bloke wullie asked if I could leave him be until atleast Friday before ripping the p**h out of him;)))))))

Good to meet up again G.

POG…. just joshing mate catch up soon.

    C’mon the Bayern.

Delaney’s , let’s hope your sister has a brilliant weekend in Maryhill, Dumbarton and Edinburgh .

It would be funny if Gerrard’s advisors who are talking to King with Dave connected to a lie detector.

Hearing my favourite player in the last decade, Andy Iniesta is signing for the huns.

If Jabba can make up fairytales that beautiful he will tae sell ra season books.

  5. SG would be mental to take the Sevco job.

They’ll sack him in 6 months and bump him for whatever money he is owed.

I’m really surprised at his agent letting it go even this far.

Surely SG and his advisers cant be impressed how they treated Murty.

I know football’s tough but if the stories about how he was treated (bullied and ridiculed by Traynor and the players) then it’s shocking even by hun standards.

I would imagine Brendan has already offered Murty some scouting work or something similar.

Anyway, hopefully John Mc Ginn and new contracts for our French players announced just before the final.

  6. I’m always surprised that no European footballer has won a best actress oscar.

Football is being ruined by the theatrics and gamesmanship of the top European teams.

  7. How many of our French players are loanees. I thought only Edouard, whom, by the way, I would hope we sign. Aren’t all the others Celtic players already?

  8. Talking about the affect the 50p a unit makes… popt into asda after work to get meals for my da.

£10 for a case of 18 cans of Strongbow was a tenner on Sunday. Today it is £19.80. Reckon I’ll go teetotal midweek.

Is the Scottish parliaments bar still subsidised?

  9. I wouldn’t be a fan of any of the ” top ” teams in europe, given a choice Bayern would be my pick, only for the reason that German football is as honest as it can get at that level, imagine if they all had to break even, jeez, we would be in with a shout of winning the CL.

  10. Stevie G before the game….Madrid will win, better players all over the pitch.

After the game…..Bayern better over the two legs, glad Liverpool will play Madrid.

    Hmm Ok lad ?

“King, where are your peepul now?

Sorry to compare a Saint and martyr to a glib and shameless, lying crook.

  12. At half time on BT they were showing what football was on BT this weekend, Lineker mentioned Partick Thistle v Ross County and Hearts v Celtic and said to Gerrard “You’ll be watching those won’t you” “off course” he replied.

    A stick on.

This may not be the best Real team ever, and they haven’t looked great in the league games I have seen, but they seem to know how to play in Europe. And unlike many teams that seem to tighten up when playing big games in Europe, this Real seem to be a more confident team when playing in the CL … I think they will (rightly) be heavy favourites against Liverpool … but if the Liverpool front three play the way they can, it could be one of the better finals in a few years.

    Edouard the only French loanee.

Musonda, Roberts and Bain the other loanees.

In Allianz Arena last October, I was a sole Tim in the Bayern Munich end. Great fitba banter wi the Bavarians. I taught them a few party tunes and they bought me beer and proper sausage hot dog. Great support.

Love Munchen now, and her volk.

VVD has done remarkably well since he moved to Pool …. but I bet he has nightmares tonight about having to face CR7 who always seems to score in Europe!

And CR7 seems to have a grudge/point to prove, since Messi won the league this year…. so you know CR7 will come out guns blazing in the final.

Still wearing a broad smile though still exhausted from the weekend.

    Oíche mhaith.

  20. Sipsini if that is the price of Strongbow now (and I have no reason to doubt you) then that is a feckin disgrace. So an ordinary working man on a limited budget wants a carry out at the weekend, but is now priced out of it… I understand the need to do something but ffs how many hits can working class people take.

Ps I don’t drink cider but I am raging with this whole price rise shite. Another way to fleece us tax payers.

Watching the movement in todays game, got me thinking ….

Watched the zombie game again last night … what a differnece it makes when our midfielders come back and move and make themselves available to take a pass from the defenders …. just opens up the field for us…

forget ball possession…. the key to the modern game is movement … moving into space … and moving to shut down players when you lose possession ….

still trying to figure out why we looked so bad against Hibs (and, be honest, we were dire against Hibs) and yet so good against the zombies …

is it because Hibs pressed us? I dont think so … movement like we had on the weekend would have allowed us to pass around the Hibs pressing game, and would have opened up their defence …

are Servo that much worse than Hibs? I dont think worse is the word … but maybe less confident may be the key …

    Thoughts with the O’Hanlons.

As you say scum, sadly there is not a hope of getting them, unless they are caught at the scene, what needs done is to find out who the are and take it from there, the polis are very good at times for getting the info, shouldn’t be too difficult.

  23. Ian Wright,in my opinion shamed the hoops, along with Shearer said on MOTD2,no brainer, only have to beat one team only,Gerrard will attract players because of his name.So players will forego better salaries just to play for Gerrard.Writing off Hibs and Aberdeen, they are truly the stupidest pundits in football.I know the bar is not set high but this ignorance is truly off the scale.

This is how you support your team.

Gerrard is a ned, straight out of the Joey Barton school of nedery, remember a while back he was in court for GBH, employed a top lawyer and got off with it, others involved got the jail, he is a scum bag, they are a match made in hell, I pray he takes the job, the hun will be back again going for the 55, they never learn, thankfully.
