Performing with an edge, naked opportunism

1065

If you were a professional football player, you would love to be in the Celtic dressing room tomorrow evening.  You would have the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself; put in a big, meaningful performance.  Record a bit of history and create a uniquely memorable victory.

There are some players who are fraught with anxiety on such occasions, but there are others who NEED these games, need an edge, to reach their peak.  If we have a team full of the latter, Legia are in for a torrid night.

I’m doing my best to ignore the naked opportunism in our media this week.  There is no point complaining about it, lose heavily and you become vulnerable to those who live to revel in a Celtic defeat.  Don’t lose and you don’t give them (friends and foes alike) a chance.

We’ve been here before.  Artmedia, Braga, Utrecht, Sion (despite the reprieve) and Karagandy all exposed an aching heart.  European football is unforgiving, try to transition and you’ll find someone ready to exploit, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong to transition.

We might talk about this transition more later in the month but we have a game to win first.  Can’t wait.

Check out the fantastic work by the cyclists who are taking part in the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014 on 6 September. You can join them – all you need is a bike. Get involved, you’ll be delighted you did, I promise. Read about it here.

Nothing like some reasoned footy debate, almost as good as the political contribution.

This is just about the time I start to rationalise the denominator. Or in other words convince myself that we will win by the required number of goals tomorrow evening. The fact is we need exactly the same scoreline as that achieved against Karagandy last season. Which involves scoring three goals, and losing none, which isn’t easy, but can be done. Along with others, I now believe that if we are one up at half-time we will go through. Just the one mind, otherwise it upsets the arithmetic.

That’s why I liked your comment about our team selection in your earlier post – I think it will speak volumes about RD

If its the same – he is blinkered determined and possibly foolish

If he changes – he is learning listening and possibly wise

However it seems we (all Celtic supporters) judge too soon – a friend at work (supports Sheffield United – poor guy) calmly explains if Ambrose hadn’t got sent off or Celtic didn’t lose 2 goals in last 6 minutes RD would be a hero !!!

I have to laugh when people have a go at the MSM for being negative about Celtic.

Has anyone been reading this site for the last month or so?

I put it down to the death of the Huns.

Too many people on here miss them – they need them.

    Why is that

They are like them , bigots and bampots

Some of the stuff on here recently is depressing, it’s hateful and in a lot of cases it’s personal.

If supporting Celtic is just to hate Rangers then count me out – not how I was brought up I’m afraid.

I would suggest that if you can’t say something positive – just say what you think – once – but don’t keep saying it ad nauseum – my scrollbar is ready to pack in

Saw the discussion about Justin Currie & Ricky Ross

My brother just turned 50, so for his birthday, he and I are heading down to New York for a long weekend to watch Justin Currie at a small club in Brooklyn …. still think Del Amitri are one of the best pop band around (bettered only perhaps by the Trashcan Sinatras and Billy Bragg)…

And glad to hear that Ricky Ross is not a sevco fan …I always thought he was …I used to listen to them, but always felt a bit dirty afterwards …. seems I owe an apology to Mr. Ross!

I went to an Irish family wedding some years ago where wee Lorraine and Ricky were guests. They led the singing and were brilliant…I met her again at the Carling Academy where she asked for and received my “not in my name” badge…heart’s in the right place…

Under no circumstances can Mcintosh and Ross be described as Huns.

Understood they were DU fans on basis Ross came from Dundee. He taught English at the old St Columba of Iona in Hopehill Road

Mcintosh & Ross have also been generous supporters of the Andrea Kearney Fund in terms of playing at fundraising events

They may not be diehard celtic people but are NOT HUNS

    Sorry mate, duty called.

Unfortunately, I think the chances are the team you said is more likely to start.

Did your mate from work forget about the 2 pens too? ;-)

Hear what you’re saying about Collins or one of the senior players talking to him after last week, but surely the time for that was BEFORE last week, when they could have influenced his team selection/preparation? Maybe that did happen & he chose to go his own way anyway, which I would respect tbh. I wouldn’t want a manager who doesn’t have the guts to stand or fall by his own decisions.

Even if we go out on Wednesday, and even if we don’t make the EL, I’ll still give Ronny at least until Christmas, probably the full season, to show me something. I’ll refrain from factoring signings in (or lack of) on the basis that I have to assume he’ll the same amount to spend that any other manager would have got. I for one was/am happy with his appointment and the logic behind it. My only other request would have been a season or two’s euro experience, but perhaps if he had that we wouldn’t have had a chance at getting him.

I’ll be there on Wednesday in hope rather than expectation. The best nights I’ve ever had watching Celtic started this way.

    Wee waistcoat,

…..and it was the stadium that Bomber played for, not the team.

Apart from that and the allegiances of DB, an interesting post! : > )

I mean seriously cream them 5/6 nil

  25. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Whether there is anything behind the KC rumours, I think if there was to be any snags re any new contract, it will be due to the length of contract on offer.

I think he has an important job to do in the transition towards a faster, fitter, we hope, style.

However, would a one year extension suit Kris at this stage of his career?

    Feel free to ignore.

  26. My da just got a call from a foreign call centre regarding selling his Celtic shares to an investor. Any of you guys shed any light on who, why etc?
