Perspective as Champions face Best of the Rest

Let’s start by putting whatever perception lingers from Aberdeen’s result in Hamilton on Tuesday night into perspective. The goal they lost was only the second time they had conceded in six games. Incredibly, both were penalties. They have played an astonishing 617 minutes without conceding a goal from anywhere but the penalty spot.

Including those two penalties, they have conceded only four since Tom Rogic’s late free kick the last time we played them. This is a well-organised football team who have a script ready for Celtic. They will defend tightly, get the ball forward quickly and chase the life out of everything. The defeat at Hamilton was the first time they have dropped a point since Inverness withheld an onslaught to leave Pittodrie with a draw seven weeks ago.

Despite sitting second in the table with an impressive defence, Aberdeen are well below where they hoped to be at this stage of the season. One win from their opening five league games saw them struggle in the bottom half of the table. Clear evidence that their preseason plans did nothing for them in Europe or domestically.

The most surprising aspect of the Premiership table is that Aberdeen have recovered their natural position as Best of the Rest so quickly.

There’s a tangible confidence among Celtic fans right now. It doesn’t necessarily extend to travelling to face A German Team but most of us think we’ll take three points tomorrow. I know Aberdeen fans who were at Hamilton during the week also fancy their chances, especially if we are as wasteful in front of goal as we have been recently.

Brendan Rodgers will need to plan for tomorrow and for Gladback on Tuesday, a game which brings an end of a five week period with five intense sell-out games (and a few others). He used his options well at Ross County on Wednesday, wise selections are needed tomorrow also.

As long as they are getting funding from the far east and loyalist money to clean they will keep the lights on, the hoards will keep pumping cash in as well, they will only pay what they have to, they will stiff another bunch of traders, more fool them for giving them credit, but there you go, they still have those who they need onside, the polis, the media, the judicary, etc,

They are hoping for a major change somewhere along the line, where they will get serious TV money, we don’t know what is round the corner, back in the 90’s we were nearly gonners, look at us now, things tend to go in cycles.

  2. Lhads, spare us the hate and bile about a set of financial figures.

Take a deep breath and move on, we are bigger and better than talking about things out with our scope.

What will be, will be…..remember who we are and what we stand for.

Dodgy accounts dont mean anything as long as (i) no one in authority (the SPFL) or impacted by the cheating (our Board) has the inclination to do something about them … and there is no evidence of that.

They weren’t really penalized when they were liquidated before (and truthfully, didn’t even suffer proper consequences) …. rather, they were, as much as possible, shielded from the consequences ….. and, largely, allowed to carry on as if nothing had happened.. And I suspect that they will be similarly protected when it happens again.

Perhaps the absence of KT may see Brendan look at the 3-5-2 option as we seem to have 3 reliable defenders in Erik, Kolo and Jozo. It would also allow us to try Moussa and Griff up front for a few matches as we have certainly enough options in midfield around Broony and wide men/ wing backs to track up and down against domestic opposition ?

Young Tierney out until next year best wishes to the young Bhoy for a complete recovery. The Rangers financial figures do not mean a jot it has been said for four years that they are going to go bust and it has never happened. They are being funded of that there is no doubt by whom ? no one knows.Unless there is an honest investigation of there affairs we are unlikely to ever know and there is little chance of an honest investigation in this corrupt wee country. H.H.

The one major flaw in a 3-5-2 is the fact that Brendan has been on record saying Kolo cannot do a run of games…………

If he were only 5 years younger.

Yip, I remember Bfdj laying down an ultimatum to the Scotland manager, fully backed by the 70s msm of course. Hypocritical oaf.

  9. Out for 2 months? That’ll be just the 14 scheduled matches then before a return 2 days before our last game of 2016, prior to a winter break ;-)

    You met me in Dublin.

I have my suspicions about JJ.

Can’t put my finger on it, but he doesn’t write like one of them, I.e., he dislikes more than he likes about them.

    Plus, he is too intelligent.

Dave King has been outed as Charlotte Fakeovers, could this be another hun?????

Sure, its not the Gardener, Durrant or Boyd.

But it is someone higher up who knows more thatn the Celtic bloggers do….

  11. Celtic players should be able to find a team mate with a pass on Tuesday , as it looks like Gladb, munche, the German team , will be playing in the hoops .

‘A German Team’ drew 0-0 at home to Frankfurt tonight and played nowhere near as well as they did against us. Hope the squad were watching back home.

Mike in Toronto, I’m sure you mentioned previously, you liked the Trashcan Sinatras.

On the tenth of November, radio Scotland have the Trashcan Sinatras on their Quay Sessions. I’m not sure if it will be broadcast that night or on a later date.

I’m not sure if you can get radio Scotland on the Internet in Toronto. I hope you can hear it.

  18. The German team played very well against us an we were hardly able to lay a glove on them, the goals were two massive errors as watching how the game was going I would have taken a draw.

    You got me thinking.

Could be as he got hung out to dry by murray after his billy boys flute video.

He might have an axe to grind.

Hope not though as I really like his writings…

  20. WITS: You are right. There are no numpties here. But there are plenty of amadáin:-)

I’ll be in Malaga (Carvajal) for the next few days. I will probably go to Timmys in Torreblanco for Tuesday’s match against The German Team. Feel free to join me if you are out that way. Kevin, the owner, is a season ticket holder.

  21. It’s just gone 9pm in Sharkeys and probably in a lot of other places in the world, and I’ve just realised that my brain has a mind of its own.

Accepting that my life past, present and future is subject to the vagaries of hope, drink and a girl with a bull whip, knee length leather high heeled boots and a greatcsinging voice as she walked up and down my spine singing “come to the cabaret”, I have now reached that state of ultimate contentment where I will no longer be driven down the rash rocky road of insanity by a naive acceptance of the mythology of a life brightened by the solar flare called Celtic.

    It’s time to be sensible.

So Surely it isn’t me that will be hauling my unfinished dreams through the streets at 3.00 am to catch the 3.40 am bus to Aberdeen….without a ticket. .surely not.

    It bloody is.

So anyone else thinking of standing by the graveyard wall in hope of a ticket I suggest you stay at home…seniority has its advantages.

Aye once you find the true path to commonsense and contentment….veer left. It may not be pipe and slippers…but Celtic songs, and Celtic laughs and ffs you’ll never believe it, is what it’s all about..legends are forged in the Celtic blast furnace that smelts the impossible into the fantastic.

I hear that the colour tell us in Malones are pretty good as well.

    Hail hail

Thanks mate. I really appreciate the heads up!

I just had a look at the Quay Sessions web site, and hopefully I can figure out a way to listen. I noticed that Boo Hewerdine is on next week …. if you dont know him, he is worth listening to …. he used to front The Bible … a great band, but more recently, he plays with Eddie Reader … who is, of course, the sister of the TSC singer, Frank Reader …
