Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

  1. Wonder if Warnock DID want Jelavic and that was enough to send the QPR directors over the edge in questioning hus judgement?

Notice the paper talk has calmed down a lot in the last few days. I think he will still be an Orc at season’s end.

Can someone please point me in the direction of one passage of play that would suggest that Paddy McCourt was MOM today.

    MWD……

Ahem……he directly or indirectly set up each of the 3 goals.

I would have thought those particular “passages of play” would have been significant in anybody’s book.

Unless you were at the same as game Davie Provan? :-))

  3. Davey Provan whit an idiot.

    3pm kick off.

at least 2 references to it being an evening game.

  4. If that is Rhodes proper twitter account, he is making it pretty obvious were he wants to play his football despite strong EPL interest – over to you Mr.Lawell

The fact we were winning the reserve league year after year didn’t help mind.

He’s just been welcomed into that exclusive club by provan, walker, burley and the rest.

    Hell mend them.

    In my opinion, of course.

    huns through and through.

  7. do we know where Rhodes was for his dinner? and what did he have?

Warnock has won one home game since last April, and won 4 games in the last 20 in all comps, not too unsurprising?

I think warnock should have been given to the end of the season.

    At least.

    Well, ye never know.

  9. Provan was still calling Foster in goal after 23 minutes…

that man obviously still has the illness that he had when we paid his wages and gave him a testimonial all those years ago…

  10. Neil Warnock is my second favourite anagram.

“Virginia Bottomley::I’m an evil tory bigot” is pretty hard to beat.

  11. Just spoken to a friend of mine, who is a season ticket holder at QPR,he is gutted about Warnock being sacked. His view is ,if you get your club promoted you are entitled to see out the next season.I tend to agree with him.Slan

  12. However, West Brom sacked Di Matteo under similar circumstances last year, with WBA about 15th, and it worked out for them with Roy Hodgson as it looks unlikely that West Brom will get relegated this year or next with him in charge

Reminds also of Hughton at Newcastle, may appear harsh at the time but with Pardew in charge this year Newcastle are 7th and in a much better position than Hughton was taking them in my opinion.

Wonder who the next QPR manager will be? My money would be on Mark Hughes

In an exclusive report we reveal that Premiership Top Dog Neil Warnock has left the London Gers in preparation for a dream move to his boyhood heroes and another chance to team up with the Haircut That Time Forgot, Stuart “Bagpipes” McCall. This will rock scodddish football to its very core.”

Photographic and bloody repetitive……he told us over and over about how many times we had been gubbed by this Team and that and how the Number (insert any from 1 to 11) had played in this game or that game…..

Warnock would hate being the ragers manager. He wouldnt be able to moan about refereeing decisions which is his favourite hobby.

  17. Paddy made a cracking pass for Sammi for the first goal. Sammi’s first touch pass to Stokes was a great touch too.

A few players were then involved in the other 2 goals.

Again. I didn’t think anyone was particularlry outstanding or rubbish from a TV perspective. I’ll await the view of the Bhoys who were at the game before passing final judgement.

MWD says it as he sees it not as per a players nationality. (Grenade!!!)

I am biased I just cant see past him. That said i thought he played a different role today his vision and passing was excellent, involved in all the goals, if AS had not been called offside he would’ve created more goals.

He just gives us a different option and makes us a more potent attacking force.

  19. From the BBC report

Lennon confirmed that Southampton have made an enquiry about striker Gary Hooper but said that was “as far as it went”, before adding that he was not looking to sell any players, “especially not my leading goalscorer”.

I doubt Gary would be interested in a move to the Championship now, especially with Southamptons poor recent form meaning automatic promotion is looking less likely with West Ham, Middlesborough and Cardiff hot on their heels! Very confident Hoops will stay

  21. I’ve been down with Manflu over the last few days and during the very few lucid moments I had I started to think about possible January signings for us. The perceived wisdom is that Neil wants a proven striker and central defender and that these are his priorities. However, I also feel that he now needs to get in a midfielder to take over Beram Kayal’s role.

We have a wealth of midfield players already some will argue and many will say that Victor can step into Beram’s place. I disagree. Victor has steadied the defence by playing in front of them – his best role. He sits in front of the centre backs breaking up play and building the confidence of our defenders. Beram has a free role. He charges along the midfield line into tackles wherever required and wins possession. We cannot afford to weaken our defence’s new found confidence by changing Victor’s role and jeopardisibg the progress made sice 5 November. We need to replace like for like. Ki can’t tackle and I don’t think we have anyone else who plays the game in the same way as Beram who is feared by most SPL teams.

I don’t think we need to spend a fortune but we do need to get a very combative player in who won’t allow Celtic to be kicked off the park especially in tight away games or in Old Firm games. I’m going to be very controversial here but at the moment I wouldn’t hesitate to go for Eric Black of Hearts.

    Any thoughts anyone …………….?

  22. At least you can’t accuse me of saying Paddy is world class cos he’s Irish, we have had quite a few Irish at the club who were not very good footballers, we have a few out on loan who fit that bill imo.

Ki world class, Sammi world class, Vic will be world class, Mathews will be world class, Izzy world class, big Fraser will be world class and not an Irishman among them :>))))))

Opinions and ass holes we all have one.
