Petrie would rather sell McGinn to anyone but Celtic

602

It comes as no surprise that Celtic have made a bid for Hibernian’s John McGinn.  The player was the standout central midfield performer in domestic football against a Celtic team who are at their strongest in that area.

Should he sign, he would be a similar age to that of Stuart Armstrong when he joined Celtic three years ago, and who he will replace in the squad.  He is also a better player that Stuart was when he left Dundee United.  He has the engine and attitude for Brendan Rodgers to significantly improve him.

Goals grab headlines and the two McGinn scored at Celtic Park last season, as well as his goal at Ibrox which secured a win, raised the player’s profile, but goals only tell a small part the McGinn story.

Hibs will be happy to wait until the last week of August and will try to attract other bidders.  Despite taking a back seat when it comes to day-to-day duties, Rod Petrie remains a key figure at Easter Road and will do whatever he can to sell to anyone but Celtic.  I don’t expect Celtic to pay whatever Hibs ask, so the deal is far from assured, but with only 11 months remaining on his contract, he will definitely leave Hibs before 1 September.

I see Belgium got awful leaky at the back last night….

Ditto, i wish he never played for us….

  2. As far as tonight’s game goes, Colombia players were blatant – lost the head. However, England players were more cynical. The dirtiest player on the park was Henderson. Two bad teams!

  3. I remember standing in the Jungle on a midweek night, vs the huns and, big Ceaser was booed by the, enraged Jungle when he replaced, Davie Provan with, George McLuskey. Like me, the enraged Jungle became enraged, by what they saw as, cronyism from big Ceasar, as he left the “Invisible” man, Dom Sullivan on the pitch, another wan ae big Ceasar’s close pals fae Aberdeen, Willie Garner being the ither yin. The reaction of, not just the Jungle, but the whole stadium, went some way to sealing big Ceasar’s fate with the board at the end of the season. Ah think it was 0-0 that night vs a pishy huns team.

Timhorton – I canny do links, if you check various Celtic blogs on the Monday after Broony’s testimonial, you’ll see that he dangles the bait about us needing a strong Rangers. Its actually better if you can source it on YouTube, the Rebels have gone look about him is sad to see. Ye see, its like he is trying, in the way that only he can, to try to tell the fans, your playing nobody, in Scotland, that’s why we’re now European punch bags.

KB What made it worse was the chaos at malpensa airport – they ended up putting anyone on a flight back to Glasgow – spent night in airport – got back 1pm next day Now drawn a line on the matter

*The whole day was a shambles; it was as if no Italian team playing so we don’t care, no programmes either. The home fans were cheering for Feyenoord; Lisbon was too soon a memory for them.

Initially it was a choice between Rome and Milan for the Final, unfortunately the latter won, I’m sure they weren’t allowed another one for several years after that.

A young lhad fae the Renton was so out of it that he fell asleep on the terracing and missed the game, lucky him . Like a lot of Tims I’m still convinced that if we had held out for a replay we would have won it.

Not having watched the game since I believe that Big Billy deflected the ball over Evan Williams head, who had it covered, for the winner.

Possibly even more disappointing was Brian McLaughlin, who according to Jock Stein was the player even at 16 who had more potential than even any of the QSG, and was the best two footed player at that time and was compared to Lubo Moravcic in the modern era. According to the book, some Clyde thug tackled Brian in the game when the players all wore the number 8 on their shirts to give tributes to 8 in a row.

*His manager at the time ex-deidco player stan anderson couldnae understand how he stayed on the park, wisnae even booked or given a talking tae either.

He now owns a pub in larkhall and allegedly still dines out on that tackle.

so England beat Columbia – Was Wayne Rooney playing, he has just signed for them (District of CoIumbia United). When is the Colombia game?

  8. I felt sorry for Colombia in the last world cup when in the quarter finals Brazil just kicked the crap out of them being FIFA darlings and did not get a yellow until they had committed 55 fouls. Brazil won. 7-1 against Germany was an absolute delight. However, today Colombia were just filth.

I am not sure what the Colombians were playing at. Did they think that they would wind up the English ‘stars’ and get one of them sent off? Silly. The real shame is that they showed in the last 15 minutes that they could actually play a bit. Don’t know why they left it so long to try.

The only consolation is the thought of what Rakitic and Modric would do against that English midfield.

  10. MIT

They were coached to antagonize. Scumbags. Even one of their coaching staff shoulder barged Sterling as he went up the tunnel at half time. Part of the training. Part of their culture. Part of their mentality. The American ref was clueless. He should have given 2 reds and the remonstrating at Kane’s penalty must have went on for 5 minutes. Outrageous. I hope Sweden beat England but I suspect Croatia will need to do it. I loathe and despise this latin “god is on our side” mentality. Anyone but Uruguay or Neymar.

Watched the England game last night, hoped for a Colombian win, but really they are no loss to the tournament, shocking tactics, English players done well to” keep the heed”.

I thought fifa graded games by category and appointed refs accordingly, the system failed last night he had a shocker, back to the rounders for him I hope.

I wonder if the hun zoomers that walked out of the Rodger Waters gig the other day , are the same ones that walked out on their new team at Ipox hamdump and Celtic park last season…

  17. Rodger Waters is one of a few super-stars who is brave enough to speak out strongly on behalf of the oppressed Palestinians .

The two best footballers in the world Messi and Ronaldo also come out backing the Palestinians .

But we dont see many stars of film -music sport doing that. Either dont care , or dont want to risk being branded anti-Semitic.

Thanks for the info last night, re Brian McLaughlin, enjoying the QSG book, this is the time I read a lot of these books in the close season, also recently read Bobby Evans, Jim Craig (page missing ?) and Tears In Argentina about the 3 Racing Club matches, all good reads.

  24. Bamboo – apparently the 25 million being bandied about is the release clause from his contract therefore the asking price has been met. The bidding war, if there was one, would not be over the transfer fee, it would be over KT’s salary, bonus etc.

  27. Not particularly happy with celtarella describing Colombia as typical Latin scumbags , but there you go. Didn’t see the first half so all the typical scumbaggery by the Latins must have happened then.

As I’ve said before on here would rather have my shirt pulled or barged off the ball than be cemented by a centre half in that , letting him know you’re there attitude , championed in this country.

I was told a funny story Brian when he was watching the Celtic Story video released after our centenary season.

Brian had been out for a few drinks with his pal and others. They all went back to his pal’s flat . Te pal out the Cetic Story on.

Brian was watching it while dinking a can of beer . When Jock Stein apearred on the screen, Brian automatically hid the can behind his back.. His pal and the other’s asked Brian why did he do that? He replied , he can still see me. They all said , he has been dead for 13 years but Brian said, he still feared getting caught drinking by him .

Looks like I owe the “journalists ” from the record an apology, its on page 239 bottom left hand corner in microscopic writing.

  31. Go tell the Spartim on

Id be disappointed if KT left especially for £25m and to Everton (Everton ffs), so the new contract was to insert a release clause (not sure i actually think there is one). Whats concerning is that he is our only left back and given our defending in europe (you know the barometer we’re supposed to be measuring ourselves with) it will only get worse as either BR doesnt think there’s a problem with our defending in europe or we’re inept at getting in suitable players (in defence of course)

  32. A quick Google Search claimed Paletine support from Dustin Hoffman, Meg Ryan , Emma Thomson and many others.

  34. If KT goes it would be the most disappointing departure of a Celtic player in my memory. Henrik had given us his best years and Kenny was mid twenties, I’m too young to be impacted by the transfers of Davie Hay and Lou Macari.

I was hoping he would stay another couple of years , go and have a great career elsewhere then come back around the thirty mark.

    Really hope it’s not true.
