Point of order, seven players have not left Rangers

555

Point of order. Steven Davis has not decided to leave Rangers. Kyle Lafferty did not leave Rangers. Jamie Ness, Steven Whittaker, Steven Naismith, Shauny Aluko and Rhys McCabe did not leave Rangers in some insurrection of Stevens-and-friends-with-odd-names.

All have chosen to remain employees of Rangers Football Club PLC and (reportedly) objected to transfer to Sevco 5088. Loyal to the end, heroes to the jersey, despite how this is being reported elsewhere. The administrators currently managing Rangers Football Club PLC may soon issue all of the above with redundancy notices, but until then, the players will sit tight.

Sevco don’t need these guys anyway, they’ve 19 targets, several of whom have been busy at the Euros, ready to sign-on.

And how could I forget about Gattuso? We’re in trouble when that lot arrive, guys!

There was a point where things turned so bad that, if things ran fair, (a disgracefuly big “if”) the only way Rangers would be playing next year would be by buying an established club and re-naming it. I’ve seen that the SFL are looking for “fit and propper” documentation on Green and his fellow investors to even slink Sevco into the 3rd Division. I can’t see how that request wouldn’t also be made for a new purchaser of an existing club.

Murdo McLeod and Davie Provan are another two as well.

I think Forster will be a Celtic player by the time pre-season training starts. No information on that, just a hunch.

Very funny,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, can you believe posters on here who want Peter Lawwell to make an official Celtic statement on this ever decreasing circle of dishonesty, a decreasing circle which id now descending below the level of the gutter, lets keep Celtic as far away from this as possible letting us enjoy the show

Tennents trying to renegotiate deal with Celtic? Arguing it was done as part of an ‘old firm’ deal and they are now wanting to carry on but with reduced terms.

Just gossip, but if true I hope Celtic tell them to ram it.

Totally agree with you. I would love them to die and not one word being said by Celtic. Huns are in meltdown and they do not have us to blame.

Poor old Charlie Green. It’s not really going to plan, is it.

No players, no place to play, and a mighty wage bill to settle with no cash coming in.

If we are to believe Green, then around 200 staff transfered to Sevco under TUPE recently. At an average wage of say, £20,000, he needs to find about £400,000 in wages and NIC to square the payroll tomorow for non football staff. The likes of McCoist, Wallace, McCulloch are on top of that.

But that’s the least of his problems.

He doesn’t have an SPL operation, and with Falkirk, Livi, Peterhead, Raith and Thistle all expressing a negative view on the SFL1 parachute plan, it looks like the best case, the VERY BEST CASE for Green is a place on SFL3.

Does an SFL3 operation need 200 backroom staff? Eh… no.

So, having TUPEed the staff over he’s now responsible for their redundancy pay. Let’s say he needs 25 staff to run an SFL3 operation. That leaves 175 staff, average tenure say 6 years, is around £500K in redundancy payments, plus say 4 weeks notice is another £300K ish.

If he runs the payroll this week he needs £400K.

If he makes them redundant afterwards he needs to fork out another £800K.

If he doesn’t make them redundant, he needs to find £400K each month to run an operation that needs only £50K in payroll.

Right now, Sevco MIGHT be permitted to join SFL3 for the coming if everyone gets a move on, but the likelihood is that there is not the time remaining to get the SFA membership he needs to sign football players, then submit the SFL application, together with organising the business such that there is a football operation at all.

I think it would be prudent to anticipate no football at Ibrox next season, in which case, do you run the payroll tomorrow?

Bear in mind Green bought the club for £5.5M, which was the best bid. He’s spent a few bob since. He’s looking at possibly no incoming cash for 12 months, and he will need to find £800K to cover redundancies whatever way it plays out.

    What would you do?

To be frank I’d be amazed if a) there was 200 staff that were actually Rangers employees and not agency staff, and off the books and b) the average wage was £20k.

I’ve worked at both CP and Ibrox and the overwhelming majority of staff are on low (if not minumum) wages. There’s a lot of part-time working too. I suppose the handful of extremely high earners might bring it up.

  14. I would have thought Green would be delighted that all of these players are refusing to TUPE transfrer to Sevco. What does he need football players for?

Is it true that Yazz is releasing a reworked version of an old song for Sevco? The Only Way Is Down.

It’s a reasonable question. The answer is, yes, if he has completed the deal to buy the assets. The corollary to that an interesting question itself.

  18. Personally i would have hoped that Celtic FC would have released a statement with regards to the overwhelming consensus on sporting integrity within Scottish football no need to speak ill of the dead just highlight the club stands with thoses insisting that morals and integrity takes precedence over all other matters relating to football and sport in general.

Again speaking personally if i have played even a minuscule part in speeding the demise of the Hun i want them to know that i was part of their collective nemesis. The Celtic board saying nothing does not sit easily with me but my being a bolshie UFB keeping quiet has never been a considered option :-)

Did the Creditors report not detail the monthly salary costs and the numbers of staff – these would be permanent staff of RFC who have transferred to Sevco under TUPE. Take away the rough monthly wage of the “walkers away” and you’d have the monthly salary costs that Green is going to have to dig deep for.

Mind you he says they are under contract to Sevco so will he pay the likes of McGregor and Naismith as some sort of tactic to prove his point?? I doubt it!

  20. The Battered Bunnet @ 09:45,

    ”What would you do?”

I’d try to look as if I didn’t really understand TUPE and it’s obligations, plat it dumb like.

On a slightly more serious note, surely a set up the size of Ibrox and Murray Park even in the Fourth tier is going to need a substantial operation.

The reason I’m asking is because I’m undergoing a TUPE myself in the next few weeks and I had written notice ages ago, explanitory meetings and I’m due to sign new contract in a couple of days time.

I find it hard to believe they’ve had time to do that all legally as the buying of the assets was a rush job!

It’s not the size of the premises that matters, it’s the number of customers you need to service, and the revenue they generate that pays the wages.

As a rule of thumb, you need one member of staff for every £100K of revenue. How much will Sevco generate in the 3rd division? Let’s say 10,000 home crowds at £10 each for 18 games, plus a bit of sponsorship and advertising. £2.5M?

Is it a hill of beans yet?

    I’m always amazed.

I know what was documented but if that was based on salaries during the season, they could be a lot lower now, as lots of staff are let go in the close season. Did they pull everything back in house? Almost everything was outsourced when I was there.

I’ll bow to your better knowledge on this one.

  29. The Battered Bunnet on

Yip, TUPE does not specify a set period of consultation, only that the consultation must take place, and that the transfer occurs when the business transaction is completed. Employers are therefore held to the ‘reasonable’ test. Sounds like your people are playing it pretty straight.

There is a shed load of case law now on what ‘reasonable’ means in terms of TUPE consultation. My guess is that the non-football staff were treated reasonably, but because the players were on holiday, the test requires a different set of criteria to be applied.

    We’ll see soon enough.

  30. I had said for quite some time that all I wanted was for someone from ex hunfc to come out and apologise for their misdemeanors and admit culpability.

You can imagine my delight when I saw Brown’s statement which contained a degree of contrition.

However, on reflection I’ve come to the conclusion that every last one of them could say sorry and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference.

    To hell or…Cowdenbeath with them.
