Politics and sport

160

I’m a friend of one of the Cowans from Glasgow, I got him a ticket for Celtic Park once.  For that family, for Humza Yousaf’s family and the countless more who are mourning, or terrified of what may happen next, I will not give you my hot takes on a situation so tragic and complex it deserves nothing but our full concern.

You can see by watching Celtic, we have a tight-knit squad, there to support each other, and a tight-knit club.  You wouldn’t have it any other way.  Getting involved here is the last thing any football club would want to do, but the players needed support, perhaps the bereaved too.

Try, though you can, politics and sport cannot always separate.  ‘Celtic Football Club, open to all since 1888’, is our proud boast, but for much of our history, that was a political statement in Glasgow (whereas it is just a fact now).  We are a club with founding values worth preserving and occasionally worth stating.  God help anyone killed for their ethnicity – nothing is truer to those values.

  1. Vinnie the dog,

I would think the Western governments would have intelligence agencies on a par with Mossad.Amazing then that atrocities like 9\11,London Tube,Omaha bombing, etc were never picked up.The other side have very clever ones on their side too.

Or are you implying that this whole thing was somehow staged by Israel ?.An idea too ludicrous to even mention.Surprised at you.

“Yet it expressed no sympathy for victims of a massacre.

I find myself wondering if this was an oversight or an intention”

    ——-

Everything the Green Babies do is intentional – it is their intention to inflict pain, financial and reputational, on Celtic and the wider Celtic family, in order to feed their ego and entitlement.

Celtic must face them down this time, if not, what will be the next blackmail plot?

The GB would love Celtic to be sanctioned, and/or, thrown out of European competition. They could then manufacture dozens of ‘F*** UEFA banners.

It’s down to you now Celtic! HH

    Medication

Didn’t Roy Castle sing a song about that?

Medication’s what you need if you want to be a record breaker.

    Or was that dedication?

Hi. I really don’t want to be doing this. I want to be talking about our football and the excitement it generates. I’m happy to embrace the diversity of opinion which underlies the spectrum of posts on this website in respect of our players, manager, performances etc. Less so the critical/supportive comments re the Board, admin in general, etc. Because I don’t know anything about that/them. I suspect many of my fellow posters know as little as me but are not thereby inhibited in expressing strongly held views which suggest intimate knowledge of such matters. I can live with that hubris. I’m an arrogant b…..d myself! But the arrogance of a section of our “support” who brandish banners taking a stance in respect of international matters – politics, violence, internecine hatred – embarrasses and dismays me. Even more since it purports to derive from our Club’s founding principles which is, in my view, highly debatable. Even more so because, of course – and it’s what minorities always want – it grabs the sensationalist headlines and allows the toxic media to tar us all – yes, you and me and our friends and family – with the same extremist ideological brush. It tarnishes the standing of our great Club and perverts the root and branch of its egalitarian philosophy. I want to distance myself from the self-serving GB. I hope the support as a whole can find a way to educate the watching world about the irrelevance of the narcissists, but don’t ask me how it can be achieved. I wish I knew.

I hope and believe this is my last non-football related post. Feel free to ridicule my sporting observations re future matches!
