Prevailing attitude of hunger

1428

Judging by these quotes, John Guidetti may just be the most excited footballer on the planet right now:

“I’m just going to work my socks off…. do my absolute very best…. give 100%.

“The one thing I hate more than anything is losing. I can’t stand it.

“For 90 minutes I am always giving everything.

“You can always expect 100% from your players and I’m going to give that [note the repetition of this assertion].

“I promise I’ll do my very best to do even a little bit of what [Henrik] did.

“Football without fans is nothing, it’s not worth it for me.”

There is a common theme across a few players who joined this summer, they have something to prove.  Guidetti, Mubarak and Tonev each had a difficult time last season, for varying reasons.  They need to hit the mark, whether it’s through form (Tonev), fitness (Guidetti) or simply being able to play in an environment which is remotely normal (Mubarak).

Scepovic is different.  He arrives with the wind at his back, but the prevailing attitude at Lennoxtown should be one of hunger. I suspect this contrasts starkly with last year’s arrivals.

I think their view is incoherent, and is probably influenced more by their attitude towards the British state than anything. And perhaps by a degree of frustration that their own efforts have ended in, at best, stalemate.

I’ll buy into your second theory regarding their personal attitude towards the British state but I doubt very much that the current political situation in the north would have any baring on their views on the Scottish referendum.

    Why incoherent?

  9. So I’m guessing that nothing in the legal position has changed since Imran Ahmed’s previous court defeats. So today’s victory can only be down to the fact that the financial position at The Rangers has got worse.

Surely the loyal lot will be happy – after all they are following in the tradition set by the previous club to play at Ibrox.

Agree the real value is not 1p if you look at the earnings ratio or lack thereof the asset value in a distressed state and current onerous contracts and legal cases I Would put a value of around 8p per share if this was a normal business trouble is no transparency so very hard to look a true assets and true liabilities the assets is more guessable the liabilities finger in the air job. You need to find the common directorships that MA and CG and CW HAVE IN COMMON

I had to laugh earlier when a poster on here claimed that the No campaign had “won all the arguments”. Way way too much faith in Johan Lamont and Alistair Darling! One point, which I have noticed is getting an increased hearing in the various phone-ins etc, is Darling’s failure, in response to Salmond’s best question, to commit himself to being part of the negotiating team in the event of a Yes vote. For someone who claims as often as he does how passionate he is about Scotland, and its’ future, this appears, to me at least, glaringly amiss. For Darling, read Brown, read Lamont, read the Labour party. Read it and weep.

I mean their efforts at defeating the British state. They failed in that objective. It’s been conceded that the Ulster Scots have a veto on a united Ireland.

Incoherent is maybe the wrong word. I suspect they think that Scotland leaving the UK would somehow magically lead to a united Ireland. That’s certainly the argument you hear. It just doesn’t stand up to any degree of critical analysis.

There’s a parallel with the Scottish left nationalists (most of whom are recent converts to nationalism). I think they’ve latched on to it partly out of frustration at their own failure and partly as a fig leaf to cover it.

    Just my view.

    He actually said:

“…Mr Speaker, I don’t know if the members here today would describe themselves as ‘joyful’, ‘exultant’ and ‘happy’ but there is certainly an unmistakable sense of optimism on both sides of the Irish Sea.

That is what we are here to celebrate and to build upon.

The peoples of Ireland – both North and South – and the people of Scotland inhabit what John Hewitt called the ‘same imaginative estate.’
