Prima Facie Day!

865

Prima facie day is here!  Neil Doncaster spent weeks telling us that the SPL had yet to establish if Rangers had a prima facie case to answer in connection with the alleged illegal registration of players.  Today he confirmed to the SPL board and the media that they do indeed have a case to answer.

Rangers Employee Benefit Trusts have been the source of considerable controversy since 2010 when it emerged that HMRC had taken action against the club, at the time claiming in the region of £24m.  EBTs had been recorded on Rangers accounts for a decade without much comment, so there was no reason to assume the club had made payments to players out-with the oversight of the football authorities.

On 22 February this year Celtic Quick News asked the question, were these EBT payments recorded with the SFA, or did Rangers hide them?  There was little reason for the club to hide them, unless, perhaps, they had something to else hide, which was beginning to look the case.

Today we have our answer.  Whatever is left of what some regard to be Rangers FC will be subject to some of the most severe disciplinary procedures levelled in the history of football.  Appropriate penalties for subverting the game for over a decade are impossible to define.

Celtic fans are not the only ones to lose from this illegal registration of players but they suffered significantly.  Five league titles went to Rangers, in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  All of these titles will be stripped from Rangers records and awarded to Celtic.

You can look forward to 12-in-a-row day soon, which is simply, CHAMPION!

  1. I suspect we’ll never really know how the vote went unless unanimous. There are too many cowards acting as executives within the SPL clubs.

As for Doncaster…..on a day as momentous as this for him to issue statements but not face a media conference beggars belief.

    Show him the door immediately.

  2. Gordon J / Auldheid

There is no certain evidence that a future with or without new club will be more or less positive in cash terms to Motherwell.

If we stripped out what we do know from this season just gone then they would have been £500k or more better off just by finishing 2nd place ! Next year the pot might be smaller but they all have more chance of a bigger share of it !!

The balance of bigger share of smaller pot applies to TV revenue and then a trade off of rangers v dundee travelling support (gap approx 8000 x £24 ) vs loss of say 4000 x £24 from reduced Celtic support & loss of 200 x £200 of own season books makes gap almost minimal……Especially as it creates a competitive gamechanging dynamic ! Horrible club leadership…..hoodwinking or cowardly and ignorant.

I noticed the other day Kenny Shiels urging that the 4 July vote be by secret ballot. Is there anything in the rules abotu how such a vote should be conducted, and if there’s no explicit instructions then who decides on the day how it is carried out? One hesitates to sound like Sally but is there a possibility that we might not know the identities of who votes which way?

    ======

There only wanting a secret vote so they can take our pounds. It’s bye that stage now, all clubs in the SPL will either lose our money or theres if decency prevails from now on, I imagine there plan Is along the lines of vote new club In, take a hit for maybe the first away game Celtic come to town and then expect the storm to settle and It go’s back to normal for our second away day to them.

Surely there’s no need to wait any longer now we know they will be liquidated and they have been cheating for years.

I can claim a live treble, Airdrie, Rangers and Clydebank.

Got to go to a meeting but will leave you all with my tuppence worth:

Strip them of their titles but I don’t want them, let the record books show they were stripped of them for cheating.

  8. DK must be one seriously p*ssed-off hun. After the SA government sequestrated all his dough he probably thought ” Well I’m down to my last £20 million but that’s safe. The SA government won’t be able to get to my £20 million worth of Ranker’s shares because they’re in ma maw’s name”. Then came along Mr Whyte and Mr Green. You’ve got to laugh, after immorally stealing riches from the poor people of SA, he gets his comeuppance. To be honest it was the Mint who really shafted him.

Looking at the SPL fixtures I would suggest that Dundee will not be Club 12 they have too many home games at the same time as Dundee Utd.

3.11.2012 Dundee Utd v Celtic and Club12 V Hearts, just ain’t gonna happen.

    My money’s on Dunfermline.

    Hail! Hail! PMTYH

  9. Burnley78,

Agree entirely. Ironic given that they only qualify for the CL because the huns are ineligible.

The tv money may be down but the chance of higher positions, cup runs and Europe surely more than makes up for this? And teams that are competing for trophies always attract extra fans.

I think the transfer of the share from the dead huns to the Newclub will be conditional of accepting punishment for the dual contracts. It might get Regan and Doncaster out of jail, for bottling decisions until Hector pulled the trigger.

  11. Anyone got a link to the Murderwell statement that doesn’t link to their website? Haven’t read it, but from what I am told it sounds like an open and shut case. Just read a few opinions on Twitter that say it’s not 100%, it could be ‘open to negotiation’.

3 months is nothing. (Sorry to be blunt)

Thousands, upon thousands who were put on the sick under Maggie – and not addressed by subsequent governemnts – are coming back to haunt us. They (mostly) are appealing any and all decisions against them. The result is a huge backlog of cases.

However, we play by the rules and don’t make them up as we go along, unlike the SPL or SFA! Not a good comparison to make there bud!!!!

  15. @bellacaledonia: Article 6 & 14 of SPL’s own rules mean that Rangers should have no vote. Please RT, this is Doncasters absolute lie.

  16. @bellacaledonia: 6. A Share may only be issued, allotted, transferred to or held by a person who is the owner and operator of a Club ….

@bellacaledonia: …and if a Member shall cease to be the owner and operator of a Club then such Member shall cease to be entitled to hold a Share.

  17. In a private conversation just days after Rangers went into Administration, Motherwell’s CE said that if they(Rangers) were liquidated/thrown out of the SPL, Motherwell would have to go part time

Now i don’t know Motherwell’s finances, but i do know that person wants Rangers to stay in the SPL

If the SFA plan for SPL1 and 2 under the SFA goes ahead there will be no need for a vote and the SFA could either suspend Newco as an extension of Oldco or not grant a license to play football in order to focus SPL minds.

  25. The view from Rangers Media…..astonishing…

For me, they crossed a line today.

  26. I may have misunderstood what both Phil and Thommo were saying their contact in Nyon had said but as I read it (and reading between the lines a little) UEFA are waiting to see if the SFA do the decent thing, if they don’t they’ll step in and do it for them.

“Consideration of the application will depend on receipt by the SPL board of all required documentation and verification.”

If they’ve already submitted an application, what other documentation (which needs to be verified) have they to submit ?

Drivers License? death certificate? stadium deeds? three years audited accounts ? This was important enough to be included in a fairly brief statement.

  30. I have never advocated or supported any previous calls for a boycott but this time it is different, any club thinking of supporting the admission of a Newco must be left in no doubt of the outcome.I don’t just mean Celtic fans but also by those fans of other clubs who have made their feelings known. We all must stand together here and let these people know what would lie in store for them.

  32. As Ireland prepare to play Italy tonight the Irish team will wear black armbands in memory of those mudered in a Loyalist attack on a bar in Loughisland on 18th June1994

The Loughinisland massacre took place on 1994 in the small village of Loughinisland, County Down, Northern Ireland. The Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a loyalist sectarian murder gang , attacked a crowded pub with assault rifleskilling six civilians and wounding five. The bar was targeted because those inside were believed to be Catholics. As of late 2010, the Police Ombudsman is still investigating claims that Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) informers knew the massacre was being planned and that the RUC failed to carry out a proper investigation

  33. If Kenny Shiels or others propose a secret ballot on July 4th to admit/not admit NEWCO into the SPL then my personal strategy is simple. Secret ballot allows entry – boycott all away matches. No secret ballot – boycott only those clubs who vote NEWCO in!
