Prima Facie Day!

865

Prima facie day is here!  Neil Doncaster spent weeks telling us that the SPL had yet to establish if Rangers had a prima facie case to answer in connection with the alleged illegal registration of players.  Today he confirmed to the SPL board and the media that they do indeed have a case to answer.

Rangers Employee Benefit Trusts have been the source of considerable controversy since 2010 when it emerged that HMRC had taken action against the club, at the time claiming in the region of £24m.  EBTs had been recorded on Rangers accounts for a decade without much comment, so there was no reason to assume the club had made payments to players out-with the oversight of the football authorities.

On 22 February this year Celtic Quick News asked the question, were these EBT payments recorded with the SFA, or did Rangers hide them?  There was little reason for the club to hide them, unless, perhaps, they had something to else hide, which was beginning to look the case.

Today we have our answer.  Whatever is left of what some regard to be Rangers FC will be subject to some of the most severe disciplinary procedures levelled in the history of football.  Appropriate penalties for subverting the game for over a decade are impossible to define.

Celtic fans are not the only ones to lose from this illegal registration of players but they suffered significantly.  Five league titles went to Rangers, in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  All of these titles will be stripped from Rangers records and awarded to Celtic.

You can look forward to 12-in-a-row day soon, which is simply, CHAMPION!

Perhaps the various Celtic supporters organisations should get together then make a joint statement regarding possible boycotts if newco is voted in

Anyway, anybody any the wiser about Barcaboy’s long promised nuclear news?

Might have something to do with RTC suggesting to any good journalist would be asking Smith if he recieved any EBT payments from Rangers when he was managing Everton and Scotland.

I assumed those lads, like Aiden weren’t brought up in Ireland. Aiden wasn’t the only one who didn’t seem to know the words, so I don’t understand why Oglach singled him out?!

Thank you all. I have just read it and don`t know what the fuss is about on here. They are saying that with or without acceptance of the Rangers to Newco transfer, their finances will suffer. I certainly do not read it as a vote for Newco in the SPL. More the opposite and it is preparing `well fans for harder times financially.

So the SPL fixtures have been published – but wait a minute only yesterday the SFA were going to reorganise the SPL/SFL

    confused – you will be!

  6. if these titles are stripped off of them will the players of the awarded teams be tracked down and given medals?

Who at the SPL made the decision to deal with the Prima Facia case after the situation is clearer with regards Sevco 5088 LTD’s application to lodge a team in the SPL and subsequent vote?

Did Neil Doncaster make that decision?

Did the SPL board make the decision?

If the SPL board made the decision did they vote on it and was the vote unanimous?

Motherwell get 2 home games against them – but they have a chance of a couple of European games – surely they can fill Fir park with their own loyal supporters.

  9. Wouldn’t like to see Gordon Ramsay stripped of

his medals……………………? whit do you mean

he never played for thems? I cannae believe

Perhaps becuase he spent most of his career at Celtic. Now i think a certain song is sang on a regular basis at CP and i would hazard a guess and say that the majority of fans would know at least the 1st verse so not knowing it is not really an excuse. No excuse for him not singing in either English or Irish. My opinion –

Camera just focused on man dressed as leprichaun – definetely not Irish – he was drinking coke

oglach – most of us Tims in Scotland know the words in English, which I believe it was first written in, but we’ve had people on here before saying that it’s an insult to sing it in English!

What’s the excuse for the other players born and raised in Ireland?

I would agree that they should all know the correct words (not English)!

are you serious? I have never heard ANYONE at an ireland sporting event singing the Irish anthem in english. It appears to me, to be the preserve of Celtic supporters. (Scottish ones at that). The guys who don’t sing it should (I agree) learn it, but it is quite difficult to learn a song in a language you do not speak at all. (I have had to do so, and it is a challenge). Singing it in english would be utterly ridiculous.

  14. Not very happy with Ireland play because this game looks like a draw as the final result.

Zbyszek – this is the best they’ve played so far in the tournament mate !!

  16. No wish to get into a song debate, no excuse for Aiden imo. Not sure why others would not sing.

The song was written in English and sang in battle and prison in English not Irish so where is the insult? The Free staters changed it to Irish perhaps the insult lays there only.

We will have to agree to disagree

  17. ElDiegoBhoy, I’ve checked. They are.

ernie lynch, of course, the SPL will not vote in secret ballot. Are you still not wanting to explain your concerns to someone who can actually do something about them?

OK either way with me but just though I’d ask one more time, knowing how important I think the issue is.

oglach, I would dispute that fans of other clubs are more vociferous on the newco issue than Celtic fans. We were the ones who raised the issue, alerted others. Months ago we informed them the 4 July vote was coming, what it meant and that we should rally pressure.

If it looks to them that they are the main movers, great, but the consensus that now exists would not exist without the rallying we have done here since October and elsewhere since.

MWD, don’t know but I think it is correct that they know which entity they are pursuing before they act. The punishment needs to hit the target.

  21. It`s quite clear that Doncaster obfuscated on the dual contracts issue

D&P didn`t even reply timeously …they should have been hounded , given a deadline and hammered if they didn`t comply

Instead the matter meanders along being delayed as much as possible with Doncaster complicit in the delay

This guy has no credibility left ..none …not fit for purpose

  24. West Wales Celt on

On the latest song debate, can I just say that it is such a pleasant surprise to hear the true anthem, rather than that ‘Ireland, Ireland’ rubbish, that I personally don’t care if its sung in Irish, English or both simultaneously…

  25. Kilbowie Kelt on

I am shocked that Aiden is being singled out for not singing the Irish anthem.

He has already proved his commitment to the land of his family roots.

He is not a hypocrite who is going to pretend that he can use the language of his forefathers.

He has done those forefathers PROUD by choosing to represent the country of which they were so proud.

    Shame on you, Oglagh.

It is not Aiden who has dishonoured his country.
