Prima Facie Day!

865

Prima facie day is here!  Neil Doncaster spent weeks telling us that the SPL had yet to establish if Rangers had a prima facie case to answer in connection with the alleged illegal registration of players.  Today he confirmed to the SPL board and the media that they do indeed have a case to answer.

Rangers Employee Benefit Trusts have been the source of considerable controversy since 2010 when it emerged that HMRC had taken action against the club, at the time claiming in the region of £24m.  EBTs had been recorded on Rangers accounts for a decade without much comment, so there was no reason to assume the club had made payments to players out-with the oversight of the football authorities.

On 22 February this year Celtic Quick News asked the question, were these EBT payments recorded with the SFA, or did Rangers hide them?  There was little reason for the club to hide them, unless, perhaps, they had something to else hide, which was beginning to look the case.

Today we have our answer.  Whatever is left of what some regard to be Rangers FC will be subject to some of the most severe disciplinary procedures levelled in the history of football.  Appropriate penalties for subverting the game for over a decade are impossible to define.

Celtic fans are not the only ones to lose from this illegal registration of players but they suffered significantly.  Five league titles went to Rangers, in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  All of these titles will be stripped from Rangers records and awarded to Celtic.

You can look forward to 12-in-a-row day soon, which is simply, CHAMPION!

  1. Come on Croatia.

Got be consistent in the view that Levein was anti-football in playing a 5-5-0 while with delBosque is 4-6-0, it’s never designed to score more than one goal and it’s killing games. Fallen out of love with Spain.

Is there a Spanish word for “Shoot!” or has the art been lost in the Spanish school of coaching?

  7. Hi Paul,

    If you are still aboot..

Noted that you aren’t totally comfortable with the SFA’s investigation into Campbelll Ogilvie’s R@ngers Trust activities.

Now that Stewart Regan has cleared his President and contrary the SPL have declared that R@ngers are to be charged with running illict dual contracts 1998-2012.

Surely it is time for Stewart Regan to announce that these charges do not relate specifically to the years that C Ogilvie was RFC Director or demonstrate what the SFA found to vindicate their President’s.

Mr Ogilvie is on record stating that he would resign if he caused awkwardness or embarrassment to Scotttish Football, if what has been exposed in the last few months culminating in today’s charges does not equate to awkwardness he must have an Iron clad defence.

I can’t see why it isn’t in everyones best interests to make public this defence and prove Campbell Ogilvie is beyond reproach.

  8. Well, it was almost a glorious failure type of game for Ireland. They played better today but were nowhere near the quality required. Pity.

But we are going to vote them in anyway.

TT – we know we were cheated, as were the other clubs who lost out if all results in all competitions are to be changed to 0-3 for the dead club during the EBT period.

But consider this, if you accept these toxic, tainted titles then you will demean the achievements of the Celtic sides who overcame the MIB and the dodgy decisions and won the title in their own right. Wim, MON and WGS title-winning teams.

If you accept the supposed 12 in a row, then you will also demean the achievements of the legends who won the 9iar legitimately, in a period where the cheating was much more blatant.

We know that they utilised EBT’s during their 9, we only have to refer to the Flying Pig’s brief saying in court that he was on a grand a week. I would love to see their 9 consigned to the bin as well as these recent titles, if the dual contract situation could be proven.

Those tainted titles hurt me just as much as you or ht, but I want nothing to do wit them. They’re poison to me!

  18. Can someone please clarify ? Just been watching both games and as the games progressed so did the various permutations. When Italy led 1-0, all three teams were on 5 points but Croatia would have been third even though they had a better GD than Italy and scored more. Then when it was 2 nil to Italy, the commentator said if Croatia made it 1-1, then they would have gone through.

  19. TTTT

why is it not a legitimate victory when those who have cheated are rightfully demoted

    sorry pal,don`t understand that rationale

  20. btw ..i hope Given is carrying an injury ….he has been woeful the entire tournament

  21. ziggydoc

when Italy were one up and the other game no score …all three were notionally on 5 points …on the head to head involving all three teams Italy had scored 2 goals the others one

Spain and Croatia where all square on the head to head but Spain had a better goal difference

  22. TTTT

Working so not in a position to argue the toss.

Can we just agree that you’re wrong :-))

I can’t agree on that point.

If a competitor is caught cheating in any sport, they are expelled from the competition, their results are expunged from history and results adjusted.

It is an administrative exercise more than anything. The titles are redistributed to the worthy winners.

Ask Neil Lennon if he wants the title from 2003, 2005 etc, when we were cheated, I bet he would. He almost said as much earlier in the season when he said he would have a lot to say if the cheating was proven.
