Prism of failure gives King chance to bring Newco down

680

After the failure to launch season ticket renewals at Ibrox in the wake of the Ramsdens Cup final last week, by Friday morning marketing staff, PR people, web designers and printers would all have been primed to press the button this morning, after the anticipated humbling of Dundee United in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Things started to go wrong later Friday, when Dave King popped up with an intervention.  King, who was a director of Original Rangers in the years up to and including their liquidation, appears intent on sending the Newco Rangers to an equally liquidated state.  Should we erect a statue to this guy?

For those of you in doubt, his latest questions to Newco Rangers board are priceless:

“Does the board agree it is unfair to ask fans to buy season tickets before they consider the business review?”

No club in the country is asked to submit business plans to supporters before asking them to renew season tickets.  What’s more, there is an assumption by King that spending plans should be expansive, exactly as they were at Original Rangers, when King & co presided over the club’s failure.

Newco’s (even newer) management should be allowed to match expenditure with income.  This is the message that fans should be asked to back, the days of empire are over.  Anyone who tries to undermine a breakeven strategy at Newco is practically ensuring another failure.

“Does the board agree that, given the present financial position of the club, it is appropriate to provide Ibrox Park and Murray Park as security against season ticket advances?”

This is an interesting one.  King suggests Newco offers Ibrox up as security (Murray Park is largely irrelevant).  If they are boxed into a corner and concede this one, those in a position to utilise that security, which in Dave King’s plan would be Dave King, would have an incentive to see Newco liquidated.

“Does the board agree that in the latter half of December 2013 it was in discussions to obtain finance that would be needed prior to the end of the current season?

“Does the board agree that in the latter half of December 2013 it provided public assurances to the fans that the club had sufficient cash to last until the end of the current season?”

King has been there before and will know more than most how financial forecasting works; there is a clue in the name, it’s forecasting.  If a company seeks contingency borrowing for less than 5% of its expenditure (or 2 weeks costs), earlier projections could not have been that far off.

None of this matters right now.  Newco’s manager failed to win two hugely important games and that is the prism through which fans will evaluate the performance of their club.  King could accuse them of being responsible for his own role in Original Rangers liquidation and some would believe him.

Season ticket sales are the most fundamental aspect to the health and wellbeing of every Scottish football club.  This is true even at Celtic, with or without Champions League revenue.  Ticket sales will have a greater impact on Celtic’s season ahead than Champions League qualification.

Right now some hedge funds and the Easdales own Ibrox.  Ideas of bully them into submission will fail, although it will be enormously entertaining.  Go for it, Dave, we’re 100% behind you.

Anyone who thinks liquidation is a positive outcome doesn’t understand what liquidation means.

I couldn’t agree more with you! I particularly remember their 9 iar, as I was the only Tim in the place, (hence my moniker) My nose was constantly rubbed in it, and when Judas signed, Jeezo, I almost came to blows with a colleague who was a good friend but a bitter Hun. Their pain gives me great pleasure! Long may it continue.

I’m not so sure. If players want to get better and put the effort in there is no reason why they couldn;t do it in the CL. Robson scored against Barca and we signed him from a Scottish rival club and Tony Watt was signed from Airdrie. It’s how these boys are coached and set up by the manager. There is no reason why players who come through our ranks or signed from other Scottish clubs can;t gel with the team and make themselves stars. The foreign lads are usually better technically but the Scottish boys are getting better and I think some of the youngsters at Dundee United prove that. I would still like to see us get the boy Gauld. He looks very special as does Henderson so we may have the lad already there for our midfield if Gauld is out of our price range for his age and ability.

I’d say Gauld is the most promising of all the young guys coming through and the player most likely to be able to play at the highest level but I know he has/ is being tracked by clubs who are much more attractive than Celtic..

Stevie May would be my shout..

  8. Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Gauld, Andrew Robertson & John McGinn are the only four SPFL players who I think could come in and be first team material straight away.

We obviously don’t need them all, and we may have better in our youths, but would like to think we are watching and asking to be kept informed of any possible movements for any of them.

Armstrong is the one i’d like to see at CP next season.

Wasnt overly impressed with robertson at the weekend, then again the whole team played average.

Surely we could afford Gauld and maybe even let him stay on loan until january.

Sammi, kayal, pukki , derk can all go. Balde aswel. Surely that would free up alot of wages and bring in some fee’s.

Gauld and snodgrass.. That would bring in much needed creativity .

  11. Here’s a story .. Good for thought.

A young Aberdeen lad was recently snapped by Fulham. He is currently on loan to Port Vale. He did make a few appearances for Aberdeen before signing down south for 15 times what he was offered at AFC.

I understand this lad has been cleverly managed by his dad who encouraged his son to resist pro youth offers and continue his football with Dyce Boys Club.

    That gamble paid off.

Makes me wonder how many other late developers are playing at Boys clubs across the country ?

If you look at this lad ‘a record at youth international level he has clearly been rated at an early age but has also featured more as he matured.

I have also been interested in why we have not picked anyone up on a pre contract so far.

Maybe there are none out there who fit our signing policy.

A quick scan of Transfermarkt for the top leagues, even some of the lesser leagues, shows that there are quite a few talented youngsters coming to the ends of their contracts in the summer.

Hopefully NL will be doing some work behind the scenes.

Doesn’t matter what company fronts the club that plays at Ibrox. It’s still Glasgow Rangers. The other half of the old firm. Now if it was converted to a woolworths equivalent like Wal Mart!

___________The lad is unproven beyond the borders of Scotland & this will be the deciding factor in his value. Do you honestly think we would have got more than £2.5 – 3 million for Victor Wanyama had not had the opportunity of European football to prove his worth?

In spite of the £6 million you hear quoted for Ryan Gauld the actual figure he would be available for would be around £1.5 – 2 million. I don’t think that is very expensive considering some of the dud’s we have purchased from the Continent & beyond.

We just released Mo Bangura from his contract with the club after he was purchased for £2 million 2 years ago & its very likely that Amido Balde will go in the same direction.

Not a hope that will happen, if the truth were to come out, quite a few, including peers of the realm, high profile bakers, politicos members of the judiciary and high ranking police officers would be looking at jail time.

I’m sure Neil Lennon is working very hard on players. Every manager wants to improve his squad. The way he has spoken recently I wouldn;t be surprised if this was his last season. I think England may be calling him and avoiding the Huns may be in his thoughts. He doesn;t need that grief.

Neil Lennon has no intention of leaving Celtic. What some people on here don’t understand is that there is a difference between wanting to hear your name linked with another job & actually having the desire to take said job. Its just his way of measuring how far he has come in his short managerial career.

The reason the deid are no deid yet is because of SFA corruption greed and lies. How will they bail them out this time? I hope they try with more lies then hopefully both maggot infested pits will run out of shit to consume and burn in the same pyre they both belong too. I hope Celtic are not burned in the process.

Given Celtic’s apparently Pontius Pilate stance it is difficult to see how the club can avoid being burned.

If we hope to progress in Europe, then Commons and Stokes have to be replaced.

They are important players for us in. The SPFL, but are found wanting for pace in Europe.

Interesting list I’d definitely sign Peter Whittingham if he was available at sensible wages. Twice Cardiff player of the year, three times named on the Championship team of the year, hit 57 goals in 4 seasons from Midfield and is a deadball expert. Ok he’s 29 but I can’t understand why a Premier League team has never taken a chance on him.

How accurate is this list by the way as his wiki page says he signed a new 3 year contract in August 2012, so it would be January 2015 before he could sign a pre-contract with anyone else.

Would you sign that lad instead of Snodgrass?

    Do we need another midfielder?

I think we need another player up front with Samaras departing and certainly a player in the Commons/Lubo mould. A playmaker so to speak. Not sure if Commons will last the whole season next year. Certainly be good to freshen things up. Maybe Pukki will blossom in there.

Another centre back is required and probably a goalkeeper if Forster departs.

I think a back up LB is a priority too. We don;t need too many new players but we do need quality. We have around £6m worth of player on the bench most weeks. Way too much for Celtic in this day and age. I would offload Derk who talks a great game but has produced next to nothing. Probably give Pukki and Balde more time but they need to produce the goods quickly next year.
