Pure, athletic, Thatcherism

935

It’s all politics.  Not actual politics, in the strict definition of the word, but clubs’ dealings with the SPFL and SFA is mostly about politically manoeuvring in the direction to win your argument.

Experienced political operators will tell you not to fight the same people on too many points; pick the important areas to win and take a few defeats on the chin.  Box the SPFL into a corner by not charging season ticket holders for entry into play-off matches, and you’re onto a sure win.  But all SPFL clubs are members of the SFA.

They all like being given their place.  If I wanted something important from the SFA, like exemption from the rule prohibiting directors of a liquidated club from subsequently becoming a club director, I’d concentrate on that and ask politely for permission to let season ticket holders into games.

But I realise there are different types of political animal.  The consensus political animal is effective in certain times, then there are those who have a self-righteous tone to rules.  It’s their way or the highway.  To paraphrase Bob Shankly, pure, athletic, Thatcherism.  Britain wasn’t ready for Thatcherism 30 years ago.  She won in 1979 and lost lots of votes second time around in ’83, but the Labour vote split.  The 80s were lean.  For some.

Scottish football is in for a period where a self-righteous entity will muster its forces.  The media coverage will reflect what we saw in politics in the 80s.  The consensus operators must stand firm and unite.

Thanks to all who entered the Magners completion for premium tickets to the Dundee game tomorrow night, the winner will be notified within the next 30 mins, so check your email!

Irrespective of the Rangers fans supporting a club we knew for years where cheating, that should not be used as an argument to not support Labour.

Mr Salmond claimed they were an institution and tried to get them saved, even speaking to Cameron about it but Celtic fans still voted SNP in the referendum.

If I remember correctly, at the time of the administration, Gordon Matheson, the Labour Leader of Glasgow City Council adopted the same line as Alec Salmond.

He even went one better. Departing from the usual ‘One is as bad as the other’ line. He claimed that like Celtic, THEY had enhanced Glasgow’s good name throughout the world.

I hope you are more selective when you mark papers.

All it takes for a football blog to remain locked into party politics is for good men to turn away.

    :o)

  4. I am still awaiting a reply from the appropriate SFA department concerning thos behaving in an offensive fashion at Hampden on February 1st.

Luckily I am not hanging by the tender parts as I wait.

Guidetti was censured for not watching the Ronni D video on YouTube.

There’s a salutary warning there for you my fhriend!

So one of our players gets censured for an ‘offensive’ remark on Swedish TV, and still some boring pompous political blowhards think it’s ok to pollute this Celtic forum with this self serving, arrogant garbage !!

    Now that’s offensive ..

  7. I suppose Kingco will now be declared fit and proper with SARS, Jacob Zuma and Nelson Mandela’s children all being censured.

Outcome: The player was found in breach and censured.

I was not aware of comments made by Gordon Matheson at the time, however as often said on this blog Two wrongs don’t make it Right.

It appears that anybody who joins this blog is either a H** or has to tow the party line, pardon the pun but that’s life eh.

You have such a nasty wee way about you when you talk to folk.

Erudite, dry, witty. But quite snidey.

I hope/suspect you wouldn’t speak that way to folk if you met them in person.

#SFAdontruleout including ‘Honest Mistake” on their list of offensive words.

  14. GM thanks but how many “censures” before a ban/fine? I realise what is going on. SFA were backed into a corner and this is their attempt at a facesaving result, only makes them look more incompotent and ridulous. H H Hebcelt

  15. Seen on twitter

“The best way to find out what words were offensive is if Guidetti goes public and sings it again ! SFA would sh*t themselves” .

  17. northeast ghirl could agree about Fasan but Calvin Miller is the one for me. H H Hebcelt

  18. Shouldn’t we be told whether it was the word ‘hun’ or being described as ‘deid’ or just because they were being made fun of?

We need to know so we can adjust our behaviour. Ahem!

At the recent game in Manchester Duffy was better than Scepovic.

Fasan certainly looked the part but so did Gunn in their goal.

Our big centre half Kelleher looked ready for the first team. Cool on the ball and comfortable moving forward with the ball at his feet.

  20. Politics today is it? I’d rather talk anything Celtic, but since it seems open season today with once more Tims falling out over a bunch of career scumbags, here is my take.

Divide and conquer, obfuscation (copyright Paul), smoke and mirrors, hysteria and paranoia.

These are just a few tenants and principles that our very own SFA use to rule over their vast fiefdom, ensconced in their fat-cat junket lifestyle, while ensuring their pompously, inept reign over the land remains secure.

What does this have to do with politics you may well ask? Let me make it clearer.

Our very SFA is merely a microcosm and template for a much grander fraud. Aye you guessed it, politics.

I’m amazed that such the bunch of philanthrocally minded, intelligent and generous bunch that post on this blog, when it comes to the smoke and mirrors of politics can fall out. Doesn’t anyone see that ALL politicians are merely lickspittles for their true masters, the shadowy organizations otherwise known as “corporations”.

For example: Don’t you think that ole Dave and Ed and others have each other on speed dial and phone each other periodically cackling over their next devious scheme to whip the peasants into another distracted frenzy, while some global fossil fuel corporation surreptitiously begins drilling in another environmentally sensitive ecosystem?

That’s how it works. There no “parties”, stand alone policies, or philosophies. Get over it, it’s time to unite in solidarity and start holding those who are truly accountable for the outrages we see in our homes, wider environment and society.

Now, can we all just get along and talk about The Celtic?

    Rant over.

  21. I predict

    1 JG will score tomorrow

2 the crowd will sing an appalling, racist, Hunny song about zombies

3 JG will pretend he’s conducting the fenian masses

4 his conducting fingers will be charged.

5 SFA will contact Saudi authorities to Seek their expert advice on removal of limbs and digits as fit and proper sanctions.

    HH jamesgang

  22. Hebcelt,

I believe JG has been found guilty and given a warning by the SFA judicial panel. Another @@@@ing joke of a decision.

The have been called the Huns for donkeys years, in a non sectarian fashion as in ” go home ya Huns” and they are dead as a parrot in the conept of liquidation. Ie “the Rangers are not the old Rangers.

So why has JG been censored, only they can say.

    HH.

Ps I think northeast ghirl answered your “trick” question.

  23. Ernie Lynch-

I’ve watched your commentary and style of posting for years, since your disagreement with Paul in the early days of the blog, refusing his invite for a meeting and debate (no surprises there…).

I’m quite happy to address your tenants and/or opinions anytime.

    Jamesgang,

May sumbdy strike me down right now…

I was just about to post something that involved your points 1-3:-o

    Spooky mhan

    HH

  25. Geordie no it’s not rediculous. The bbc broadcast a programme where the presenter said that the famine song was just a bit of fun. No censure, no problem, no argument.

Talk about Huns or even died Huns……..ohhhhh well that’s different then.

  26. Geordie Munro on

“Ps I think northeast ghirl answered your “trick” question.”

    Greenpinata,

    And Hebcelt duly noted.

  27. Oh dear ernie if they can’t argue with you they will tell you you are just being smart.

    Clever eh!

  28. Geordie Munro on

    Neganon,

Yeah but it’s not really the same is it?

Now if a hun player mocked us live on TV and he wasn’t censured I’d say something was up.

  29. Geordie this is simply part of a campaign to outlaw any criticism of the Huns. That’s all it is. At its. Eat it’s appeasement at its worst racism.

Take yer pick and stop making excuses for them.

Let’s see what you say to,or row when the SFA ignore their own principles for fit and proper persons……
