Rangers 3-2 Celtic

1137

Celtic will have to keep the Champagne on ice for a while longer after failing to collect the three points required to win the league at Ibrox this afternoon.  The champions-elect looked nervous early on with few looking comfortable in possession, allowing Rangers significant periods of possession.  After only 10 minutes Rangers were ahead when Sone Aluko beat Thomas Rogne before cutting inside Charlie Mulgrew and firing a shot past Forster in the Celtic goal.

Celtic scarcely featured as an attacking threat in the first half but moments after going behind Georgios Samaras produced one of the most scintillating pieces of skill on the day.  The Greek international collected the ball 70 yards from goal, beat four opponents before his shot from 12 yards was saved by Alan McGregor.  Anthony Stokes mishit the rebound allowing McGregor to tip over.

Stokes forced a further save from McGregor with a fine volley after controlling on his chest but the game was soon to look ominous for Celtic.  Cha Du-Ri was caught wrong side of Lee Wallace and made the slighted touch on the Rangers player who went to ground two yards outside the penalty area.  Referee Calum Murray sent Cha off despite the covering attendance of Charlie Mulgrew.

Despite their numerical advantage Rangers seemed content to prevent Celtic scoring, Fraster Forster didn’t make a single save while Celtic were numerically on level terms or only a single man down.  Ten minutes after the break Victor Wanyama was red carded for a two footed tackle on Steven Whittaker.

Lee McCulloch was fortunate to remain on the field after elbowing Scott Brown on the head.  In a carbon copy of the incident which ended Beram Kayal’s season in December, McCulloch went to ground after the incident until attended by a physio, which perhaps tempered the referee’s response.  Clever, if predictable.

With things clearly not going their way Celtic then lost an offside goal.  Celtic had an opportunity to make an attempt on goal when they won a free kick 28 yards out.  With Charlie Mulgrew still running into position Scott Brown played a quick pass to Kris Commons but Celtic players were crowded out by a number of opponents and lost possession.  Rangers broke forward and applied pressure which brought the best out of Fraser Forster but Andrew Little put Rangers two ahead from what was clearly an offside position.

A further breakaway on the 77th minute resulted in Lee Wallace putting Rangers three goals ahead.

Despite being two goals down substitute Kris Commons started to dictate play and brought Celtic their best period of possession.  In the 89th minute Georgios Samaras broke through the Rangers defence but was scythed to the ground by Bocanegra.  The referee awarded a penalty and ordered the Rangers player off.  Scott Brown scored the penalty

Moments later Commons got the better of Whittaker on Celtic’s left before being brought down by the Rangers player.  Commons found Thomas Rogne with the resultant free kick which the defender powered home.

Got in , just as they scored…bummer. never seen a demand for tickets like it, Spent 90 minutes asking for any spares , no luck. BTW ,there are a few right pricks amongst our support who say things like “sell you wan fur a hunner ” , needless to say they got a right mouthful from yours truly, stupid wee boys who should be careful who they are gobbing off at. I was not n the best of moods. Finally got a source who bailed me out…..no names.

    Wish he hadn`t bothered.

  3. The bold hector – yes indeed Murray was very very reluctant to send Bocanegra off. Ultimately he knew he wouldnt get away with not doing it – but he thought about it long and hard. To my mind that was the only straight red of the day. I was kinda hoping he would send him off because it would have further highlighted what was a simply disgraceful performance.

As I said earlier – these are the dying acts of a corrupt club and a corrupt football association. Their tea is oot but they just couldnt bring themselves to allow us to win at Ibrox – a step too far. The apologists and sychophants in the media fawned over all of this and no matter how ludicrous the Celtic sendings off are they try and justify them.

Scotland really is a cesspit…….my plans for leaving are advancing well now.

Whilst I feel your pain I don’t agree with all you’ve said. Howver, I could not agree more about the daytrippers, quick to criticise quicker to leave when things get tough. Noticed this more and more in recent seasons.

    Hail Hail mate

  5. Bhoys and Ghirls. Just back. Long time lurker. Only 2nd post. Haven’t scrolled back but really proud of support today. We were never going to be allowed to win today.

Neil Lennon is facing up to a very poor rankers team and a halfwitted manager who wouldn’t get a job anywhere other than the bigotdome..

Neil, time to step up to the plate.

Four games in a row we haven’t played well,United’s sending off being a turning point .

Someone needs to remind the players they’re not s good as they think they are.NL also need to remember that the Huns aren’t as good as he think they are.

Thanks for that mate, it’s seldom I criticise but tonight feel it’s merited.

I had bhoys looking at me as if I had two heads when I was trying to start songs today, unbelievable.

Although it may have been my sweet dulcet tones :-))

  15. I will post my thoughts on the game tomorrow when the 24 Budweisers have settled

    But i have 1 question

Does the poster Tom McLaughlin still think Calum Murray is a fair referee?

Don’t say we didn’t warn you early on this morning

    The man is a cheat

  16. Bring Me The Heid of Thunder Crap Reid on

    Another thing.

If Stokes is better than Brozek, why, why, why did we buy him ? Is it because he was linked to Rangers ? ………….like Loovens ?

We have a first team squad of 33 players – not counting 9 out on loan. Why ?

We need quality; not quantity. Guys who could make a difference will think twice about joining if they reckon they’ll never play. Guys who are here now will be off in the summer. Guys like Kris Commons.

What pissed off NL more today ? Being sent off or seeing Commons play so well ?

Sorry, Neil, but I think you’re blinkered and we’re all paying the price.

Alarming trend that knowing the result after five minutes.

Last week I posted that ten minutes after half time last Sunday it was evident the way things were panning out.

As another poster pointed out, it is not a one way street, the team must repay the support it gets. Cup finals and days like today are for the fans to celebrate.

  25. Hamiltontim:

Agree with your assessment of team and staff. In particular Lenny’s tinkering. We all feel raw efter gettin beat wae them! Nae bad thing.

How would you feel if we only beat 9 men huns by one goal?

According to body language and the ego politics of the commons-lenny situation i really don’t think Commons will be at paradise next season.

  26. Bring Me The Heid of Thunder Crap Reid on

    lennon’s passion,

Some sanity in a sea of self-denial.

  27. It’s not so surprising that Ragers were more up for it. This was their last stand. We have lots more opportunities to win the league.

It’s easy to say Lenny should make sure the players are up for it, but we have a young team. You can’t teach “bottle” to young players, they acquire it with experience.

It’s no coincidence that our best players were the two most experienced ones, Samaras and Brown.

This team can only get better.

  28. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

The referee can defend the first decision and the second decision all day long. Hell he can even make up a story for sending Lenny to the stand. What he can’t defend and proves that he is a cheat is flagging for Four minutes injury time, having a goal scored, celebration lasting more than a minute and a substitution lasting 30 seconds and still ending the match after adding less than 4 minutes of injury time.

    Blatant.

  29. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on

It is astonishing to see our team being criticised for 10 mins of play.

All of which saw a corner per minute gifted by Brother Callum.

Aluko’s goal was very very good, and we’d have come back from it no bother on the nirvana of a level playing field. He was playing for a refund. Toss up for MOM was between him, Sammy and brother Callum. Brother Callum edged it though.

  30. if you remember back last year after their shame game the polis went and spoke to both teams pre next fixture

on the next game i felt we were very passive but they were just there usual thuggery

during this week we again had a visit and again i felt we suffered and they didnt

this is not looking for excuses i’m just commenting

secondly all the punters were saying last week that if mib isnt 100% certain he cant give penalty

well excuse me how the hell from 40yds back could murray be 100% certain that wallace was gonna get to ball

anyway watched game with 10 others today and everyone was convinced wallace was getting booked for diving

i think the most telling moment was at our penalty murray was seen on screen asking if it was a red card on his mike he said it about 3/4 times and compare that to the cha red card where he nearly tripped himself up getting card out

i didnt see him asking anyone what colour card should be

anyway we all know that we need a dominant centre half and a big powerful striker so hopefully does our board

the one thing i need to say is

after wgs and moggas teams just accepting whatever they did to us i was greatly encouraged by our team last season that if there was an incident we got players round to show them we werent gonna take any sh**

today when gollan stood over goalie i was really disappointed to see no one get into golans face and show we aint gonna be bullied and if you mess with one you mess with all of us

we need to get that back but dont see ki cha mathews doing that

  31. Lenny/Commons.

Begs the question was Commons signing Lennon’s decision or PL’s. Remember when Commons was signed in January 2011 the crying out need was for a quality central defender.

  32. Allgreen admin heaven on

Today s showed again how much we need a daft heid the ba centre half.

Poor day when the coward McCulloch bullies our centre backs.
