More evidence emerged today on how Rangers recompensed players through their Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme in The Sun newspaper, who have a draft contract Rangers offered an unnamed player. The contract was a letter confirming a six figure payment as well as a £1200 per game appearance bonus.
An accountant told Sun reporters Paul Thornton and Ewing Grahame:
“I have been shown a contract of employment showing how much money players were going to get but also a back letter which I presume that individual has assumed is part of his salary. It seems like a contract.
“If the two documents are handed to someone together, is that seen as being his overall package? If the answer to that is yes then there is a problem because the money that goes into the trust really should be getting taxed because it is his salary.
“The fact it is there as a back letter at all suggests it is dodgy.”
Attention is obviously drawn to the potential criminal consequences of these tax arrangements but football fans throughout the country will be alarmed that Campbell Ogilvie, the man who was general secretary and director of Rangers when the EBT scheme started, is currently president of the SFA and would have been involved in scoping out the secret remit of the SFA inquiry into Rangers, which was asked to report within an incredibly quick two week period. Ogilvie is also one of the few men the inquiry will report to.
If the allegations in today’s Sun are accurate, Rangers have improperly registered football players for a period of around a decade. The penalty for playing an improperly registered footballer in any game is a 3-0 forfeit.
When the SFA president is in a position to confirm all of this, the association have all information they require to make a ruling on this, but despite these allegations being widely reported for many months, they have yet to even acknowledge there is anything to investigate.
Can you imagine the scrutiny the Football Association in England’s board and chief executive would be exposed to if this scandal was not being actioned?

I was wondering how Celtic could highlight the issue of the huns fielding ineligible players.
What if, in the last game of the season, when the title is safe and secure, we played Hoopy in midfield?
I’m assuming Hoopy isn’t actually registered as a player.
What would the SFA do?
it could simply be blind optimism… but does anyone else think, if they’re still around at the end of next month, there’s a chance, just a chance, that we might gub them by a cricket score? and that’s before taking into account they may well have to get rid of their high earning, and/or long term contract players, like mcgregor and davis.
as absurd as it sounds, how can a team win 4-1 and still manage to look utterly rank rotten?
I thought I saw S McCall storm up the the forth official and swing an arm at him . Punch? -push?
Did I imagine this because I dont see any mention or headlines?
If it had been Neil…………..
The whole, corrupt, biased, edifice is about to fall down!
I for one won’t be lamenting the demise of the “establishment”
Even Jabba is distancing himself!
BAMBOO 0851
Thanks for the back-up on that, bud.
I’m totally disgusted at the charge in the first place, and Lawwell’s acceptance of our “guilt”
Had the case been held in a court, with all of the ramifications for perjury, etc,Smith would NEVER have repeated his allegations.
To be done on the say-so of one uncorroborated account is an affront to natural justice, and particularly galling as we know that at best he heard what he wanted to hear-who says I can’t give people the benefit of the doubt,I would never suggest he made it up!
So the SFA enquiry will consider the revealations that Rangers players may have been improperly registered .
In essence this is what the FTT have been considering for the last year, on and off.
The SFA have allocated 2 weeks , to investigate ALL matters over whether Rangers may have breached SFA articles
At least thats what we understand, as no official confirmation has been forthcoming from tbe SFA. Nothing from Lord Nimmo Smith either, which is somewhat surprising given his committment to openness and transparency shown in previous investigations that he has headed.
The media have also been more than a little silent over the short time scale and terms of reference. This is in direct contrast to the strident demands for answers from Whyte( undestandable, but no more important than the issues the SFA SHOULD be looking into)

I defintely saw that too!! Just after a decision went against Motherwell, McCall went for the 4th official and appeared to grab his neck. He seemed to brush it off – maybe it was a joke but as you say ‘If it had been Neil….’
2010 Nevr Again
Follow the money!!!
It might be an interesting exercise in finding out how many directors/officials….past and present of the SFA, SPL and Rangers (in administration) have transferred assets either off-shore or in to someone else’s name in the last wee while.
If the names Murray, Ogilvie, McLelland, Bain, Peat, just happen to be among them then the smoking gun has found a place to call home.
Tick! Tock!
Barca
It is now plain that the SFA are or were not fit for purpose.
Theyve either been turning a blind eye towards ranglers cheating or maybe even colluding with them.
Theres too much coming out for them not to be complicit in this scandal.
i never liked the monicker SSM. reminds me a wee bit too much of SDM. i prefer “pistol pete.” works on a variety of levels.
Good Morning and a very happy Green Monday to all CQN folks.
Green Monday marks the start of the Greek Orthodox Lent and is marked by,among other things, displays of kite flying in public parks.
Many of the kites are in the form of the colours of local football teams and here in Cyprus, that means many are in the colours of Omonia.
I am just about to set off on my morning walk around the bay where many Omonia kites will be flying high sporting the clubs very distinctive colours of green and white hoops with the club crest,a shamrock,in the centre.
May you all have a Happy Green Monday,I know I will
Bamboo, Marcacog- As has been repeated many times on here, the gesture by McCall on the 4th official was a joke, nothing more, and was taken in that context by everyone.
I’m the first to have a pop at McCall, but in this case there is no mischief to be found.
Rangers off field problems may be well nigh unsolveable, however the onfiled issues could be easily remedied.
Given the results achieved by a rank rotten Rangers team against ICT and Motherwell salvation is a mere 8 job changes away.
If Ian McColl, Gordon Dalziell, Gordon Smith, Mark Hateley, Richard Gough ,Ian Ferguson, Jimmy Calderwood and Jimmy Nicholl could somehow manage to pick up SPL managers jobs, then it’s job done
Every week a fresh patsy to roll over, never having to face the inconvenience of having to face an opponent who tackles and gives 100%
Meanwhile Celtic would require a first team squad of 100 to combat the effects of opponents who’s teamtalk consists of “puting the foot in” “bodies on the line” and “blood and snotters”
Whimsy aside, the performance of teams managed by ex rangers players when facing Rangers is becoming yet another embarassment for Scottish Football
The insipid arguement that they don’t perform against Celtic either ignores 2 crucial points.
Celtic are a very good team whilst Rangers are not
The excessively physical approach of Motherwell and ICT (less so) when playing Celtic is not remotely matched in games against Rangers.
I would love to hear McColl and Buthchers explanation for that…….particulary McColl’s
2010 Never Again
David Murray is the supreme architect of everything that is happening. Whyte is going to take one for the team (and that team aint rangers)
You can take that to the Bank….Oh! wait a minute…
A mild, grey, showery morning here in North Ayrshire.

But he rushed at the sfa man and swung a arm at him and the official recoiled. ….Wheres the joke?
I magine in the split-second he realised the seriousness of his actions he tried to turn it into being something funny.

I wouldn’t hesitate to add the SFA and the MIB’s to this as it further highlights the mountain Celtic have to climb on a regular basis.

I’ve heard it mentioned that one reason managers send out their players differently against Celtic than Rangers is that they know they will get away with more from the referees if players foul Celtic players rather than Rangers players.

My mate sent me an email of a green and white traffic sign saying: TWENTY`S PLENTY. It now makes me smile everytime I see that sign. So much so, that I kind of hope we stay at 20 ahead rather than move even further in front.

From the Herald:
“Whyte’s associate told The Herald: “There are other people that need to be looked at. What I am suggesting is that anyone that thinks Craig Whyte was able to manoeuvre himself into the position he did, was able to do the deals he did on his own in isolation, without anyone else being involved or anyone else being aware, is kidding themselves.”
bamboo- To be fair, after the 4th official overturned the ref and lino’s mistake, McCall went striding towards him in a very deliberate manner but when he got to him he merely held his fist in his face in what was clearly a joking gesture.
Honestly, nothing in this- let’s move on.
Just wondering….
Did the blog get much commentary overnight on the dramas in the Carling Cup Final with Kenny Misser passing up the chance to take out the trophy for Cardiff just at the end of normal time?
And missing his penalty shot to boot! Double drama. And double drama too for the Gerrard cousins (on opposite sides) who both missed their penalty shots.
Is the Wishy Kit man away yet

Jack Irvine of Media House is Toxic
This PR guy has helped Murray and Whyte take Rangers to the cleaners.
He is a clever man and will have known what has been going on.
He took the tainted money on offer so as to cover up what was happening.
He is the type who will now hold up his hands and say he was only doing his job….well Jack, sorry mate in this you´ve wilfully helped in the near and very possible destruction of Rangers.
If anyone has any dealings with him, perhaps they could remind him of the above before closing the door.

That smacks of Whyte threatening to blow the lid off if he’s left out to dry. Interesting times ahead.
You have to wonder if certain huns would now prefer a quick liquidation without too much investigation, even if it means newhuns start in division three.
Pretending to be contrite and taking their punishment rather than plod et al dig through the embers.

McCall pretended to put his hand over the 4th officials mouth after he had over-ruled a decision.
Just a bit of banter.

‘Twas always thus!
A post on here recently related a wee story from Willie Wallace, that when at Hearts, they knew they could get away with a lot more against Celtic than against others. I apologise to the poster for forgetting his name, btw….
He then said that it wasn’t until he joined us-£30,000,robbery!-that he realised just how much the opposition could get away with!

Gooood morning CQN. Wet and drab day in glasgow. Another great result on saturday the train moves on.
Oh and hateley your a FUD!
Can anybody provide a link to Tonys call to Jabba on Saturday? I’ve spent ages trying to find a link that’s been posted on the blog a few times,I’d normally liaten bacl to the show but for some reason its saying media failed.
Anyone able to cut and paste Spier’s column today?
Just watched the huns highlights, big Terry butcher will be beating
himself up, over his teams lacklustre display,NOT.
Another week – more revelations? Who knows, but what is certain is that there is an awful lot still to come out.
Redundancies will in all likelihood be made very soon and I do feel sympathy for those on “ordinary” wages who will be added to the unemployment list. Players on big money will be fine – and there are always lower league clubs in England looking for another body.
There were rumors last night of liquidation on Tuesday. I can’t see it happening so quickly, but then I don’t have a full picture. I’m not sure that even the administrators do right now
