Rangers on SFA warpath since Fit and Proper enquiry

1203

Rangers manager, Ally McCoist, appears intent on testing the SFA following his outburst yesterday.  According to McCoist the Association “effectively called” Sone Aluko “a cheat and a liar”.  Chairmen of the disciplinary tribunal, former referee Jim McCluskey, had his judgement called into question by McCoist, who said, “The meeting was chaired by a former referee and I have to say his decision making hasn’t improved any since he stopped refereeing.”

This is a new tone from the Rangers manager, who never spoke in these terms about the SFA before they decided to investigate Rangers owner Craig Whyte’s suitability as a fit and proper person to be involved in the game.  Despite yesterday’s punishment, Rangers remain Scotland’s most influential club by the length of the Queen’s highway.  Sabre rattling from Ibrox cannot be dismissed by the Association, who, I am led to believe, will find their investigation into Whyte thwarted.

McCoist escaped SFA punishment for his inflammatory comments to Neil Lennon at Celtic Park in March. It remains to be seen if this new outburst establishes a new method of inappropriate behaviour without consequence. Shauny Aluko will surely not thank his manager for the “cheat and a liar” association. Words like those tend to follow a player.

There’s a commendable aspiration in wanting Paddy to play every week. I think many of us would dearly like the player to justify UOG’s faith, and my own hope. Sadly I just don’t see it happening… I think I’m at a stage with Paddy that I’d like to see him playing regularly somewhere where he’ll be appreciated. He’s great to watch, and even if his overall effectiveness is debatable, he really should be showing up on the highlights reels most weeks.

Anyway, interesting thoughts on the the full backs. It’s not a new thought, by any means, but full backs really are the most under-appreciated players in football. A full back is always the free man, rarely marked, and a good one is the out-ball for almost everyone on the team. A couple of good full backs will cover a multitude of sins.

I should say that I don’t rate Cha, for he is the exemplar of a headless chicken, although his effort and attitude are commendable. However, a very pleasing aspect of Lennon’s time has been his desire to recruit full backs of some quality. Izzy and Matthews are about as good as we could hope for under the circumstances, and we have able back up.

Obviously we’ve moved on from the hysteria and calls for Lennon to go, but, it’s always worth taking time to remember the really positive markers in our manager. I mean, those things that prove that despite the vagaries of form and fitness, his strategy is sound and he knows what we need.

Hate predicting outcomes of Celtic games… it can only lead to disappointment in one way or other. That said I think today will be a difficult game… And, that said, I do now believe we will win this league, handsomely.
